Yes, it's Descent. The controls feel fluid, the enemy AI is good (they can lead their shots, make an attempt to dodge, and can even respond to your flares and headlights being turned on) and its behaviors varied (you have straightforward fuckers, cheekier hit 'n run fuckers, and just timid fuckers who want to stay as far away as possible from you. There's an upgrade system where you find upgrade points in levels and use it to upgrade weapons, but they work like augs in Deus Ex where you have to make a permanent decision between one or the other, which lends the system some weight. It's also less bullshit as it doesn't have the CLASS 1 DRILLERS or the microscopic fuckers who fired flashbang missiles at you, and robot generators are destroyable now. Being able to bait robots around corners with lights also means there's less trial and error involved, which is neat. There's also a New Game+ mode which changes up enemy compositions so endgame enemies appear as soon as the first level.
Today I noticed they released a community-made level pack DLC for it, though I didn't get around to trying it.
