My point was that handing a bunch of pdf's with no direction is unnecessary. Loomis is a decent start but he's definitely not the be all end all in developing your skills. Sycra's beginners series and composition series are both alright since they're in condensed forms but his hour plus tutorials have a lot of needless content that needed to be shaved off. The whole point of having an art community is to direct eachother to sources of information that can vastly improve one's ability past the typical mantra of "just read this book".

So it turns out the font was Almaq Rough. I couldn't find it, even on pirate repos with 4gb+ font collections. So what I did was I found a site that sold the font, but had the preview as a .css element, changed the text and shoved it into photoshop and converted to path. Like the Jazz pic, I want Virgil, one of if not the most recognizable characters of the game, holding a violin but with a look on his face like the black dude holding the bass guitar. If I were to describe it, I'd say it's a look of slight disgust, a bit of shock, and overall displeasure of merriments ceased. Of course, the little caption below should be something like [Classical music stops] or whatever you think would be most appropriate to describe Arcanum's soundtrack.
I did my best to post the highest quality pics of Virgil in-game and of his portrait, but I really did end up having to scrape the bottom of the barrel here. There exists hardly any official artwork for Arcanum of the characters and even less fan art. Hopefully you can do something with it.
I'm posting another spin on the picture from a DOOM perspective just to give a little insight on how a parody can be done.

That's the first step in quite literally killing yourself artistically
You need to let go of the rough edges and just concentrate on the good parts of your art. Publish something even if you know you can't get it 100% right and focus on improving your next work with the knowledge of the mistakes you've made.
If you never save your own errors for later reference, you're bound to forget what you messed up in the first place and they'll provide you with a practical way for evaluating your progress as an artist.
Also, as a general rule of thumb, if you didn't notice a mistake until you closely inspected the picture back, you can assume 99% of the world won't either.

You can go anyway you want with a design, there is a Russian artist called ksen who spent almost three straight years drawing different robots everyday.
