At GDC this year in the Intel booth they had Star Citizen on the highest end rigs they could put together. The sad thing wasn't that the game ran like shit, its that the booth was manned by backers of the game, they had this soulless look in their eyes and you could tell by the way they talked that they had each sunk significant amounts of money into the game.

Honestly the mistake isn't even buying into Star Citizen, the biggest mistake is believing that a space sim can work in an mmo context without it being annoying as shit.
The formula doesn't even work for Elite Dangerous so there's absolutely no chance it could work for Star Citizen. To make the game fair the grind would have to be massive, if not people would be able to skip all of the game and get the best ship and equipment and easily destroy other players. But of course since it's online, even enemy NPCs will need to have the exact same equipment as the players, which means most combat will take ages to conclude because it needs to be fair.
This shit just doesn't work with this kind of multiplayer, I just really wish they had made it some kind of cooperative open universe or straight up single player. It would've cost less to make and would definitely already be done by now.

Nope, I haven't spent a dollar on the production of the game/kickstarter, but I'm pleased with those that have. Once it's at a state that I deem valuable and I do purchase a copy, I will be able to because all those dreamers carried it to that point. Keep measuring video games by the simplistic, approved time frames and cycles of production that have inundated you with all the amazing new releases you currently enjoy. It's not like extra time and effort is needed to hoist systemic depth and scope of gameplay from its stagnation in sixth gen mechanics into a position eye to eye with the flashy, shallow visual experiences peddled by AAA developers today.

Their jpeg sales business shows no sign of even slowing and has actually increased every single quarter (the trend line is slightly down only because of the point in the year we're at).
Meanwhile, the servers are a ghost town as no one actually finds anything fun about the gameplay. The cultists believe this is because fun is something devs add at the last minute. You probably remember people beating the doors down to play buggy games in alpha, early access, and just plain unfinished like Minecraft, Factorio, Riworld, KSP, Bonerlord, RuneScape, Subnautica, Dwarf Fortress, Ace of Spades, etc. so know what a load of bullshit that is.

It would be way too easy to cheese the insurance replacement system by that way. The most you could do is possibly destroy his ship after you've killed him and make him wait out the insurance timer for a replacement.

Basically, Amazon is likely investing in Star Citizen since they see it as a flagship game for the engine to entice devs into using it, since also has a very similar licensing scheme to what Epic Games does with Unreal.
Whether or not if Star Citizen will be a massive trainwreck, which is extremely likely at this point, it will be interesting to see how Amazon deals with the aftermath.

I think it's asinine that you can claim some basic idea, like a giant blue space tardigrade, and then nobody else can ever use that idea in anything else regardless of whether or not they are intentionally "stealing" it. I think copyright law of this kind severely hampers creativity in all media.
The way I think of it is that if one game/movie/whatever has a good idea but uses it in a shit way, copyright law then comes in and permanently prevents that idea from ever being used in a good way by anyone else.

Hasn´t aged very well AT ALL and it´s basically two shows.
First, the one they rebooted is hardly watchable after a while as it´s so cheesy and CONSTANTLY reuses maybe 5 FX shots.
It´s a kids show and a not very good one. My kiddy nostalgia googles got shattered on trying to watch the reruns lately.
2nd part is them finding 80ies Earth and FULL on SJW (((Green Party))) agitprop.
It´s a Jew show, so no surprise.

You make it sound like the ship you get for that 35 dollars can actually do any thing in the current state of the tech demo. It's slower than ships three times it's size, it holds 3 units of cargo which won't even let you break even from cargo runs, due to it's shitty design you can't actually carry boxes into the ship so all those black box recovery missions and "please haul away my literal shit" missions are a no go, it will take you 15 minutes to kill even the weakest type of npc pirates with it's weak guns, and there is still no fucking way to rent or buy ships using in-game money yet. There used to be a way to rent them a couple of years ago, but the fuckers seriously said that was an "unintended bug" and removed it.
Frankly, you need to spend at least 65 bucks to have a ship that can actually do what little content SC currently has. Except for mining of course. That will cost you 170 dollars because they want all game professions beside cargo and (basic) combat to require a dedicated ship for that role that will cost you at least three digits

Yep, they have "medical gameplay" tied to a specific ship, "electronic warfare", etc.. That seems like it'll be their strat for the next few years since it worked so well with mining. Drive everyone to play a tiny minigame's worth of content per patch at $150+ a pop.

The gun was "perfectly fine" being fired in flight from a strict mechanical POV, yes.
Problem was (and still is) bullets do come out of the barrel…. but can't hit anything because the accuracy is abysmal.
Pic related.
Yes the gazillion dollar plane can't hit what the pilot is aiming at, as in they somehow managed to get the sighting system wrong (on all versions, which should be fixable) but also the angle in which the gun is resting (which is the only thing explaining a gun shooting "long") on the versions with a gun… which means the berth of the gun needs fixing… which might mean touching on the frame again…

>JESUS FUCKING CHRIST SOME OF THEIR "HELICOPTER DESTROYERS" HAVE FLIGHT DECKS LONGER THAN THAT OF THE CHARLES DE GAULLE
The CdG has a short deck but it also has full powered steam catapults, byproduct of nuclear engines.
Steam catapults are a bigger tech hurdle than people think and only France and the US have the tech (and the nuclear engines tech to pair it with which give the whole thing great synergy).
It's nothing the nips can't do, but it would require some serious R&D in the field, when Nip helicopter carriers were never designed for anything else than a quick refit to carry Harriers.

It's not well known but the design of the Queen Elisabeth Class (UK new carriers) is from the French DCNS company that they developed from the CdG data and experience (which was supposed to be only a prototype before a "full size" carrier, which France never built out of money issues) so it's not like there isn't a precedent.

I feel like I should set one thing straight here:
Igg games is not one guy uploading games.
They take submissions from users, uploaded on diferent mirrors and then publish the links on their page.
Now, in theory, they claim that they pre-scan everything they upload to make sure they don't accept malware riddled submissions.
In practice, three things can happen:
>they're bullshitting us
>they don't really care to scan submissions
>they can but the submission is infected with some advanced payload-download method
I'm inclined to go with the third for one reason: from experience, the only games I saw with bitcoin miners were "Idling games", you know those things you open and leave open in another window for hours at a time.
I've also seen other kinds of malware on a few submissions, but out of (close to) 150 downloads from them, I only found 8 or 9 (could have been a false positive) to be infected.
As always, no matter how much you trust the source and how much reputation they have: scan it. Several times if possible.
Even the most reputable cracker gets his reputation ruined if someone MitM his shit. In fact, that tactic as been used before to discredit "famous" trustworthy uploaders back when The Pirate Bay was a thing.

Instead he decided it was a smart idea to develop three games simultaneously and waste resources on showering, urination and bartending mechanics when the core gameplay is still a buggy turd.

Their networking is based on an open sores library this is no longer being maintained, their networking team is no tanks in Baghdad:
<CIG Lead Network Programmer - "Netcode does not make clients run slowly, and never has."
and they had job offers out to replace core networking team positions a while back so there was probably a purge. Meanwhile, they currently can't add new planets and locations because the game literally sends every client every update in the in entire universe and has been doing this for the last 6 years. An NPC scratching its ass 100,000km away is something your client is notified of. If this game had hacks it would set a record for the longest distance wallhack in history. Imagine sniping someone from another planet.
They have a nightmare internally in their code around this from what I've gathered. Derek Lolcow pointed out that they have hundreds of spinlocks. That's a ridiculous number even for much larger projects and suggested they had no idea how to do multithreading. Sure enough, they had to rewrite the game's lua scripts as C++ semi-recently (seriously) to try to work around this due to lua not handling multithreading well. That's not a real fix, either. They shouldn't have to do something like that, that's crazy. It's desperation as they must have decided fixing their shitty engine code is a lost cause and have to find a way to live with it.

The characters are deeper than your typical shounen or shoujo stuff; the protagonist in particular is a real Byronic hero, which I found to be a refreshing change of pace. The art is markedly different from the typical manga style, and the artist makes use of her dirtier sketching style to have the characters look etched and dirty when they act like savage animals - which they do, frequently. Despite that, the series is rarely bogged down in navel-gazing and mixes drama with suspense very well without losing sight of the larger storylines. Mostly.

I have said that shit to people years ago but they wouldn't listen. Gimballed weaponry is it's own entity, every fucking thruster nozzle is one, every player on the ship and stuff they hold and so on.
Wanting to have all those positions updated all the time, at high speeds because spaceships no less, is asking for trouble. The incompetence of these faggots is surreal.
I've played Mechwarrior: Online in a clan. The biggest problem the shitty devs had was that they used Cryengine. It looks great but comes with practically no netcode and really, really can't handle shit traveling fast. Small mechs were next to impossible to hit but would smash up their legs on tiny rocks. Lots of problems like that.
They couldn't manage to have you be a dude in a cockpit. That's also why you can't eject from the mech. What they did instead was basically have the mech be you. As if it was a FPS and you were a dude in a small scale world, just that you are a mech.
I may not understand this stuff correctly because I'm /nodev/ but when I heard what engine Scam Citizen would use and what they were planning to do with it, I knew it was trouble.
No matter what engine, though, just imagine the logistics of having a spaceship travel at high speed and having over ten items on it that have to keep up (weapons and thrusters), plus lots of shit inside (people, helmets, guns in their hands) and then not only expecting that to work, but expecting that to work with a handful more spaceships in the same instance. Imagine all that fucking data! At what tickrate were they expecting to run their servers? Much simpler games already can have trouble with updating positions, how did they think this would work out for them?

This is the state of normalfags these days. I'm unironically fine with that display, though.

Does anyone here remember entropia universe? Where do you think these people went? Thats right, I guarantee the people shilling out thousands of dollars on this game are the people who dropped entire mortgages on straight up bullshit. The great thing is unlike Entropia this game is going to fall flat on its fucking face and we get to see those absolute fucking idiots drive themselves into poverty.

I posted this in the telltale thread but it died, resurrecting it as it's new news. They're trying to recruit telltale's "devs".

What they say and what actually happens are always two different things.
The bulk length of citizencon is more like a long GDC talk before it was a Marxist meet&greet and the segments are pre-redorded slide & video combinations. Those are largely done by the former CryTek graffix wizards about graffix tech. Those are the highly skilled professionals they hired to put the lipstick on their pig and sure enough it's got a glossy scarlet sheen, but it's the pig that's fun to gawk at and watch roll around in its own shit. That's usually in a smaller segment, the keynote address, and is the part worth watching with anons as it's always impossible levels of failure despite being something that could surely be planned and practiced.
For reference, the bulk part of 2017, minus the keynote.

His face looks a little red. He might be one of those guys who gets red faced when he drinks. I'd need a few to manage this nightmare of a game. Sandi's makeup looks like shit too.
