My guess is that reason why the ==DEMO== looked so focused on gunplay/action-y sequences was that it gets more potential buyers. I dunno, for me it feels like punk or retroware punk. What I think looked generic was some of the gun designs and the city to some extent felt generic but it's not too much of a deal breaker for me.
What I kinda wanted in the city design was one of the concepts in the teaser where they build on top of the building. That was kinda neat.

Cyberpunk is usually minimalist in it's science fiction, since they take what is here and now and just build on top of it with some newer out there ideas. But you do have cyberpunk that is not minimalist like Blame! and Biomega.
But I kinda disagree on the iphone era statement since it felt to me that they brought more retroware then took it to a minimalist fashion that it looks futuristic and took allot of punk in fashion to the game.

I can see the comparison of GTA5 since it's an open world game and set in commiefornica which GTA5 is. I dunno if the lore would let something like that work in Shadowrun. Vidya, absolutely, if it was done right. It really would be a matter of having everything electronic running its own code. A TV might be super simple - just pass the input to the display output and the speakers, maybe with video running through an arbitrary filter module and audio running through an amplifier you can pass parameters to so you can fuck with volume and the like. It's really just Zachtronics with more complex objects, handling video streams, audio streams, and data packets in addition to raw values, and running on absolutely everything. It could be optimized, too - you could abstract everything away instead of actually executing the script if the device is unmodified, just define what it's supposed to do in its stock state.

It's completely doable. You want to generate a few thousand apartments that all look believable? You first need a bunch of assets. Do a couple dozen each of basic furniture, and then a bunch of smaller assets - clothing piles on the floor, computers, cups, dragon dildos, trash cans, etc. Associate a cost with each item. Generate a handful of parameters for each room - owner wealth, sloppiness, maybe a specific trait (alcoholic, weeb, simstim addict, etc). Generate lists of assets to be used based on these, so more expensive/fancy furniture shows up in richer apartments. Work out some basic pathing inside the room and build around that. You can follow fairly straightforward rules - beds are more likely to be in corners, dressers will always be along walls, computers will only be on desks, piles of clothing will be on the floor close to the beds, etc. Some combinations will be the only ones to produce specific items - you're not going to see a high-quality simstim set unless the owner is rich and either a movie buff or a gamer, but if you do stumble on an apartment with one, you could snag it for easy creds at a pawn shop, or yank some components out for yourself.
With some simple logic, good placement rules, basic NPC scheduling/tasks, and a solid number of assets, you could easily populate an entire apartment building with rooms that aren't too samey, and let you explore each one. That was one thing that always pissed me off in nu-DX, there were always a couple of apartments you could break into, but that was it - almost all of the doors in a hallway were locked and couldn't be opened, they were just textures. Same with virtually any interior in GTA. I get it if you're streaming a handful of set assets in premade rooms, but if you can make them on the fly (just use the apartment number for seed) and only need to load a couple dozen models per room, it can't be too tricky. You could apply this to any room that occurs in large quantities, from offices to nice apartments to slums.
That of course unlocks the potential for other mechanics. Stealing from your neighbors like you're Adam Jensen off his meds could draw heat.

To clarify a bit - Shadowrun's decking doesn't fit my vision at all. A big part of what could make hacking really interesting and fun, aside from the scripting and whatnot, simply comes from affecting things far away. Owning security cameras with default credentials is a fun IRL example. It's even more fun when they have two-way audio - I once got into a security camera for a pool hall that had an Israeli IP address. It was pretty dirty and out of focus so I couldn't see much, but it had two-way audio, so I started playing recordings of Hitler's speeches over it. After about 2 minutes, a blurry pool cue came out of nowhere and smacked it out of alignment, and it went offline a few minutes later.
Take this remote mentality to its logical conclusion in a cyberpunk setting. Why would you bother ever leaving your room? Have all the party members carry the in-universe equivalent of a cell phone that you've got access to, and you can do anything you want to anything nearby that's on wifi or bluetooth, as long as you can own it.
I don't think Shadowrun's decking really supports that. It makes sense in a cyberpunk tabletop game, where you want to keep the party together, so you make it so that the hacker has to be on-site for it. In real life, the only reason for that is airgapped networks, and even those have been beaten in bizarre ways. There was a casino that got hacked because they hooked up an internet-connected fish feeder to their network. Someone got into it and used it as a jump box to compromise important parts of the network, and nobody found out until a bunch of money suddenly went missing and the forensics guys found the fish feeder. That doesn't seem like something that would be possible in Shadowrun, if you're playing correctly it would be more like "steal and wear janitor uniforms, get to a maintenance closet, jack into a hardpoint because the network is airgapped for some reason or there's a magical firewall that prevents every attack method known to man, decker opens the doors to the safe, everyone goes in and loots it, then you shoot your way out to the APC that the rigger commandeered". Fun, but a totally different mindset, seemingly inspired by heist movies and bad hollywood hacking scenes.
Plus there's the dichotomy of cyberspace versus realistic networking. Cyberspace as a concept is cool as fuck, and I love it, but it's maybe a tad overdone and never gets realized properly. The compromise I could see is some sort of system where you jack in to write code and run scripts and bounce between systems and shells. Give it a bullet time effect - you jack in, you're thinking very fast, so the game world slows down around you. An hour passes for the player, only a minute or two passes in meatspace.
I dunno, there are lots of ways to do it. It's nice to think about, but it's not like a game like this will ever actually happen, so you might as well string some LED strips in your room and lurk Hackerman General and dream about maybe getting your OSCP at some point. Or just play CTF with metasploit on a riced-out linux box. If you'll never play it in game form, at least you can LARP it, right?

I am not much of a fa/tg/uy, but from what I heard a reason why the decker/hacker had to be on site, is that when the tabletop was first developed, the internet wasn't really much of a big thing, so they went with the, "gotta physically connect your brain to the computer", as opposed to wirelessly, because the computers were not connected to the non-existent internet. Also I think you can play a game of Shadowrun with your character in his room/in the van if he is a rigger, so you have a small army of drones doing the job for you.

Sure there were people hacking with their computer, but the device had to be physically connected to the internet, and if a company/school wasn't connected to the internet, then you had to go there and physically connect your device to the network. The idea of people caring devices that could wirelessly connect to almost any network, like in Watch Dogs was the thing that didn't really exist in 80's cybepunk. Sure you had remote control drones, and people connecting to such drones with the power of the mind, but it's not really the same thing. Kinda like how people used to store files(documents, presentations) on floppy disks and you had to physically carry them around, but now they store them on the cloud and just download them from anywhere that is connected to the internet.

If you're playing a game where you have small HP pools where you're expected to evade damage, fucking up doesn't have longer lasting consequences in terms of gameplay. You simply die, reload and carry on.
Meanwhile games with larger healthpools will have healing stations or medkits that you can find and expend to restore them, a resource that can be consumed faster depending on how often you make mistakes. Everytime you save the game, all the resources you spent will stay spent from that point forward, so even reloading the game after dying will have you start with less possibilities for healing, especially punishing if you reload to a point where you're not at full health.
Both methods have their own merits and moments where they shine, but the second one allows for more experimentation and extra elements to be added for the gameplay. And since it allows for more mistakes, it makes for a better experience at making you look like an Average Joe as well.

They have a pretty cool backstory as well and the seller, Dum Dum seems like a chill guy if you got to know him and he even tried to de-escalate the situation before his boss showed up. If I remember correctly Maelstrom started out as a Aryan Brotherhood-look alike in pen & paper Cyberpunk and fought other ethnic gangs in Night City. They were going by the name Red Chrome Legion back then. However, due to their low numbers they started to augment their bodies more and more to get an edge over other gangs. Eventually they were decimated by the Inquisitors, a multi-racial Christian gang that opposed cyber modifications.
You can still see part of that lore in their design. They are all White and some of their tattoo are based on Slavic Paganism. Dum dum has Hands of God tattooed on his forearm, a symbol which has been adopted as a emblem of Polish national pride and an emblem of Slavic Faith.

Maybe the more augmented you are the more they will trust you in the game and maybe they will start selling you some of their under the counter less orthodox cyber modifications.
Dexter DeShawn aside from being a nigger seems like the most reasonable choice. He seems like a competent fixer with a lot of contacts all over the city. He's obviously planing some high profile job if he needs that Militech robot and wants you to take part in it. Each time we discussed the idea of showing the game to you (and we discussed this idea a lot), we were ending up in this "we're not 100% sure" limbo. Why? Because (for most people), when a game dev shows gameplay footage from their game, it means that this is how the game is going to look or play like. It's not the case here. Cyberpunk 2077 is deep in development. We have a lot of design ideas, a lot of mechanics being playtested, but we don't know what we'll end up with at launch. This makes publishing videos like what you just saw risky –we don't want gamers saying 'but in that previous video that gun was shooting differently', or 'why did you change the interface?'. Change is inherent to game development and there's a ton of things being modified each day. Our fear was (and kind of still is) that you'll think what you just saw is how Cyberpunk 2077 will look like 1:1.
What gave us that extra confidence to show you a work in progress game? Good initial feedback from people who are accustomed to see games at various stages of development. What they told us (and they told us they really liked what they saw) gave us the boost we needed to show the current version of Cyberpunk 2077 to the most passionate and insightful audience –you.

Western Europe here, Portugal more specifically. We are quite close relatively speaking and yet nobody here knows how eastern europe goes. For most people, it's just a russian county.
The thing is, while most of southern europe is consumed by apathy where nobody really gives a fuck anymore while the north europe is to busy getting fucked to give a fuck, eastern europe seems to be doing really well.

That said, it really does depend(also, technically, Hungary and Poland are Central Europe) on which country we're talking about. Most of Eastern and Slavic Southern Europe is going down the shits mighty hard because our governments have taken the transition from Socialism to not-Socialism by handing over all authority to the literal fucking mob and most positive change is extremely gradual and usually the result of outside interference(*cough*Eurobux so when they finally induct us into the EU all the shitskins will come here instead of shitting up France and Germany *cough*).
That said, Poland and the Czech Republic are becoming beacons of how-to-country. Czech is great but it's kind of fucked future-wise because if the EU collapses it's economy will go in the shits and if the EU doesn't collapse it's going to get locked into the USSR 2.0 but just as bad.
Poland has a strong manufacturing economy so it'll probably be okay either way. Hungary…it's questionable, it's border policy is good but it's internal politics leave something to be desired. Orban isn't exactly what you'd call "a great guy" and for all his "red-pilled" shit he carries the whiff of every Eastern European pseudo-dictator.
It's a shit-show, man, and politics on this side of the continent are making me pray Kielbaster but also Czech end up for the better in the long run.
A lot of us are hoping for a sort of chain effect here, that the success of countries like Poland and the Czech republic can be used as an example for the rest of us and used to spur on and trickle down from country to country - ie: success in Czech and Slovenia trickles down to Croatia trickles down to and Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia and(hopefully) Serbia.
We're stuck in a very hard place between the Russian Thugdom on one side and the German Cuckpire on the other. God knows how - if - we survive the shitstorm to come.
