Sephiroth Jenova wants to smash Meteor into the planet to suck up all that lifestream that comes from the crater, and Aries was casting Holy, which would directly counteract Meteor.

If you want an explanation as to why Aeris decided that she needed to go into a monster/clone infested hellhole by herself to cast the world saving spell, entirely alone and unguarded, then you're shit out of luck.

I just chalked it up to all Ancients / Jenova infectees having some kind of autism that makes them think they're better than normal folk.

The biggest problem with FF7 is that the translation legitimately doesn't know what it's saying half the time. In the scene with Sephiroth in the library in Cloud''s flashback, he can't seem to figure out whether the ancients are from the planet or if they're the people who came from another world.

And disc 2 loses the impetus for most its plot regarding the huge materia because they managed to completely fail to convey that they're important pieces of the planet in a timely manner; instead we have Barret saying "If Shinra wants 'em, we do to", a not at all sufficient motivation considering we have more important things to worry about

The reason you don't get why he did it is because you don't seem the understand the significance of Sephiroth finding out he was just science experiment. He learned that his entire life was a lie, and everything he fought for was a lie. He hated humanity because of this. He killed Aeristh because she was the only one who could stop him and, in the end, she does. Doesn't matter if he found out his "mother" was a space parasite or not because he'd still reach the same conclusion: Humanity created him to be the perfect killing machine and he was the only one who wasn't a failure. The fact that his "mother" is a space parasite only make it worse because that means they injected a bunch humans with space parasite dna in order to make an army of super soldiers. It is through the success of Sephiroth (the experiment) that SOLDIER exists and all those abominations you see in the pods exist. Those people who idolized him, were idolizing an abomination and encouraging the distruction of mankind and the planet as a whole (because, you know, Shinra was in the business of sucking the planet dry).

He went crazy because Jenovah is a horrifying eldritch abomination from the stars and his contact with Jenovah basically fucked his mind and she was basically controlling him by manipulating his thoughts. Everything he does after that basically serves Jenovah's goals. The Sephiroth we see at the end if the game is basically a new Jenovah. Hefell into the lifestream but you can't exactly absorb it that way. It's thin and effluvial down there. He needed to make a BIG MURDERHOLE in the world so it would gather up in one place to heal it and he would suck it up there aand kill the planet in the process.

Jenovah is the main villain of the game, Sephiroth is just her puppet. Hence why he also refers to cloud as a puppet multiple times. The Jenovah cells inside his body can be manipulated by Jenovah.

Jenovah herself it just a formless mass that travels from planet to planet assimilating the population and feeding off their Lifestream. The female form is probably just some random cunt it mindraoed and used as a vessel to travel between worlds. Dr. Gast's journal even says this. When the Tetra first encountered it it would steal bodies and mindrape people.

multiple reasons, first being ye olde "MY LIFE IS A LIE!" meme level backstory, while he was reeling from that shocker, JENOVA, who apparently has fairly powerful psychic abilities, mind fucked him HARD. So you now have a VERY unstable psychically induced schizophenic, sorta empowered by a world eating abomination, who just so happens to be a living weapon and just gave him a literal planet's worth of targets and a need to "get back at" everyone who has now wronged him by their sheer existance.

Non-Flashback Sephiroth is more a wraith or medium for JENOVA depending on the meeting.
