One thing I'll say about fans is that vast majority of them are fucking idiots who don't know what they like and don't know shit about game design or the design situations that results from time constraints to get the game out by X release date (Eg, Mario Kart 8's large amount of copy/pasted characters, no proper battle mode stages). Or other fans don't notice "patterns" in games like wondering why battle stage N64 Block Fort isn't in every MK game since MK DS (because Nintendo only puts in a single retro battle stage from each MK and doesn't repeat them until they most likely run out).

The thing is there is a small amount of knowledgeable fans who do know their stuff but get drowned out by the larger, more vocal (and dumber) masses.

There are no modes where you can just fuck around with the game anymore. In rainbow you can't play the actual game unless you are playing comp or you have 10 people who want to play a custom…… There is a "casual" mode but since you can't pick objectives, it has limited rounds, and it has a load of bad maps that are unbalanced as fuck you can have fun but it's just not engaging.

Esports games are anti fun. The only fun you get is from getting good but the problem is that you get good then you are only playing against people who are pretty much on the same skill level as you so you never really feel like you are getting better. Then there are just thousands upon thousands of people who just play "optimal meta" strategies and can get easy wins against uncoordinated teams even if they can't shoot or play the game for shit they will just win by default because the nature of the game.

Esports mentality ruins shooters. I couldn't say that an esports mentality can ruin a fighting game though because well it's always 1v1 and since there is no team element the only thing you can do is tryhard and outplay your opponent. Not so in team based shooters.

For the same reason I hate League of Legends or other mobas. Most of the game just involves waiting for others, and very often it is down to whoever has the better weakest player. Since in these team games strength is often determined by how skilled the least skilled player is. Which makes them more like gambling, since most people go in and play solo queues.

The devs love it that everyone is kept around 50% winrate so they're essentially just playing a gambling simulator that keeps them occupied. Single player games are often left in the dust when mastered, someone who is very good in starcraft 2 just stops playing it. That's $62K annually, which is about average pay for a junior programmer. Definitely cut down on number of staff, but paying a programmer less than $30 an hour is just asking them to go work somewhere else for far better compensation.

I've worked at software companies big and small (not video games, because I have standards, and video game dev jobs are life-sucks), and the trick to good productivity is a team that is no bigger than it needs to be and that is taken care of very well by management, lead by competent dedicated team leads. You start underpaying your developers, you're going to start getting shit results.

This is in fact the exact opposite of reality, they do not listen to hardcore pvpers, they listen to streamers and big names, who are without fail narcissists that only care about personal power, that aren't actually legitimately good and lose to people well below their pvp ratings, but do all sorts of dodgy shit to game the system. These people only suggest improvements for their own classes, ways to nerf classes they don't like, and otherwise form a cancerous and incestuous clique.

The casual is an animal that can't tell his ass from his elbow, but even an animal can tell whether or not his environment is better or worse by instinct, if not by reason.

The ideal situation is one in which a randomly rotating subset of the top 1% of the player base makes suggestions and votes on changes. If only we can get at the real concerns and ideas of the best players, i.e. the only people who actually understand the game instead of existing in it at various levels of mindless memorization and dumb luck, then the whole community will benefit, even if they can't comprehend why.

At this point, however, MMOs have been burned by their half-assed attempt at balancing the game by trying to use "gud pvpers" i.e. streamers and e-celeb shitters, and instead of developing a nuanced understanding of where they went wrong, how it can be fixed, and so on, they've instead thrown the baby out with the bath water and then set it on fire, swearing off listening to "da pvp community" any more. "Fuck you pvp guy", as the quote was.
