More like

Arcade Era

>$1 per hour of play

Console Era

>$60 for 15-300+ hours of play depending on game

>also must pay for console and controller(s); console value essentially increases the more you use it

Mobile Era

>free to play but play can be enhanced with payments if you care for available enhancements, if not it's shit

>must pay for phone but everyone has one

Secret Contender: PC

>play as much as you want for free with emulation/torrents

>still able to play games of similar quality to console era

>must pay for PC but it's a good long term investment and can fulfill other purposes too

Improved your thread for you OP

This.

The only wrong thing is paying for entertainment. Pay for a PC/means to get entertainment for free, and get all entertainment for free.

This. Take a console game from, let's say, 1990 and compare it with an arcade game that came out in the same year.

Arcades effectively died when console hardware effectively reached arcade hardware, around 2007 (that fucking year again).

Arcades are pay to continue and reinforce a "git gud" mentality since it means you'll pay less the better you are

5acd31 No.15162490

>>15162240

Depends on the game. Some games let you continue without any progress lost if you continued, so that would be p2w. Others didn't let you buy continues or lives at all, so they weren't pay to win at all, your entire chance was in that first buy. Still others had checkpoints that you started at with each continue or even each death, where you payed to continue but had to git gud to win. The latter two categories (and there are plenty more classifications) are pay to play.

>Arcade Era

>$1 per hour of play

Yeah fucking right. By the time arcades were dying out, it was more like a dollar per minute. Even back when it was actually a quarter per play, you'd have to be some sort of god to make that play last an hour, and in order to get enough practice to do that you'd have already spent tons of quarters on that machine.

>play as much as you want for free with emulation/torrents

>still able to play games of similar quality to console era

These two are the same point. Yes you can emulate easily. Unless you're trying to argue new games are as good as before as long as they're on PC, which is ridiculous. The only games worth playing are the old console games, so either you're playing on the original console or you're emulating.

>>15162337

>implying Arcade games from 1990 look like console games from 2000

Daytona was impressive but wasn't that still '94? Technically the same year the PlayStation and Saturn came out. Consoles were catching up quickly, but even when arcades had a more significant lead, it was still only one generation ahead. By the '90s consoles were catching up enough to make it not as worth it to have to actually go out and pay per play instead of staying home and playing as much as you want.

Don't try to lump checkpoints that only work if you pay in with proper pay to play. What is it with all these people trying to justify paying for advantages in arcades? And every fucking time they try to justify kikery by falling back on "just get good", as if that excuses kikery existing in the first place. The entire reasoning is backwards, implying that kikery is ever acceptable, as if accepting and supporting it won't make it seep into everything else (including the minds of people, who are now so used to jewish tricks that they see it as the default or even something to defend).

Arcades are still around and full of amazing games.

Thanks to online features, the competition is global, instead of one arcade.

343 and Raw Thrills are blowing fucktons of money on an extravagant Halo cab with a 130 inch 4k screen.

You keep repeating the arcades are dead meme and they'll just keep on trucking.

I wish you were right but I can't find them. When I do it's all pure gambling and any semblance of gameplay has been removed. Even before that, going back to the '90s, shit was too expensive and they were disappearing at a high rate. The last actual arcade I could find disappeared in the mid 2000s, and by now even the movie theatres around where I live are swapping the three or four arcade machines they had each for gambling machines. I mean when I was a kid I liked ticket machines as long as they were physical games like Whack-A-Mole or whatever, but now it's just "press button and hope the light stops on the right spot" and it's rigged anyway so the light can't stop on the right spot except once every 500 plays. I have also found places like hipster as fuck "gamer bars" which plug in 360s at each table and charge a cover price but you get in and all the tables are full of people not playing, which is fine because they're all fucking 360 games anyway.

>Dreamworks presents Antz

Raw Thrills is generally mediocre but I'd be lying if I said my walletpussy won't open as soon as we get one. I'd like to credit feed through it with my friends. Its cool that "the west" has one arcade developer left.

>>15163120

Its pretty sad that they turned into kiddie casino's. Surprised there isn't a law against this shit. Some of them don't even have tickets anymore, its all digital, half the fun was shredding them afterwards in the machine (i might have a touch of tism).

I don't understand the whole "barcade" thing. These places would never drop god knows what Raw Thrills is asking for Fireteam Raven or even 9k for Cruisin' Blast which is their cheapest game as far as I know. These are spectacle games sure, but you have to have both flash and substance. They won't care about online connectivity so all the hot new rhythm and fighting games from Japan are a no go as well.

They don't care about either, because they are more interested in jerking their own dick about the bad old days. Its just going to be old shit and 90% of the time not even running on original hardware, just lagging on grandma's old Dell, what the fuck? Apparently they do well around here.

(Cruisin Blast is a bad game but if they have a cabinet in whatever arcade I'm in I always end the night with a race on Singapore I don't know its got lightning and colors makes me feel good fuck you
