Kill yourself. MGS5 was great gameplay wise and you can't prove me otherwise. I have no reason to believe that DS is going to be bad when every single MGS had good gameplay. I don't care with who Jew and Holywood actor does Kojima hang out with. All I care are the video games. If the video game is good then I will buy it. It's up to the developers to establish a level of difficulty for the players to experience, which usually involves providing different difficulty modes or challenge modes to suit different types of players. The level of difficulty should not arise from the player having to hold back in order to avoid outright breaking the game. Else what's the point of having difficulty settings?

Asking because I've read conflicting replies:

Thief: Gold

I know it's shit because the Gold edition adds thief guild missions that are retarded (don't remember if unbalanced for that point in the game or what).

Surprised no one else has tried to take the ball that MGSV dropped. I still feel open world stealth has massive potential. It could easily be too much of a hybrid of everything else, but that is part of the open world appeal, being able to tackle an objective multiple ways.

Gold does have the Guild mission which is total shit. You can skip levels with a simple button combo anyway, so don't worry about it. Gold also includes some other missions that I liked compared to the turd that is Guild and changes some objectives/item placement. I had no problem with Gold

I know there's a couple games that have guards noticing a few of those things, but it's never all of them together. If they made a game with guards that were this intelligent and observant, going through the game unspotted would prove rather challenging.

Also I wonder when the "guards forget completely about you if you hide long enough after a n encounter" meme will end.

Guards resetting is understandable as some games would just be impossible to progress if they are on alert/caution. Fixed routes and patrols is the cornerstone of stealth and having that permanently disrupted would be unfair unless you finally die or restart. Perhaps as a difficulty option.

>I still feel open world stealth has massive potential

Only if the game is entirely done in a sandbox way with enough random elements thrown into it that give it enough replayability.

It's a shame that open world games get done for the Action genre, Just Cause being the best example, but the same thing for Stealth seems to be extremely rare.

Even the AssCreed games are more hack&slash than stealth anyway and they squander the potential that open world gives them.

Something as simple as the basic concept of MGSV: aproach a situation from any angle, after adquiring enough information before getting in and afecting it with sidequests.

Let's say it's a Thief-like game, where you have the goal of stealing something from a mansion. It's a building on the open world surrounded by tall walls and many guards inside. You can just head there right away to get in if you feel confident enough.

Or you can explore the city around, visit bars for rumors, take a look around the mansion and find several different ways to get in. A sewer tunnel, an employee that will sell you a key, a way to adquire a disguise, some tower nearby you can climb and rappel from. Basically all the fluff that Garret tells you about in a cutscene before a mission, but now you gotta look for it yourself around the city, especially since in every playthrough, not all ways are available. The sewer tunnel might be collapsed, the employee might not accept bribes, etc.

I'd also like to see Social Stealth done a lot better than we usually get. Simply being capable of bullshiting your way into anywhere, win the trust of everyone to betray them afterwards, pull off disguises and personas to walk amongst guards and civilians at will, etc. Gathering information to know what to say, keeping your story together so your lies aren't discovered but also having to lie or it's all gonna be traced back to you, it's all neat gameplay to add onto a game.

bd81d0 No.15145277

>>15145120

You're describing AssCreed Unity, which I maintain has genuinely good gameplay. It just needs a non-shit story, enemy variety, and better AI and boom, you have an 9/10 game. I would also like all targets to naturally exist in the world rather than be activated my missions, but that'll never happen.

ee7485 No.15145357

>>15145277

I only played the first AssCreed game and a bit of the second.

From what I remenbered, the entire open world aspect barely mattered at all since every key assassination was a specific sequence in a specific location done in a specific way. The most you got out of the open world was when escaping after the kill.

Even the sidequests were mostly done in a specific location, not different at all from standard open world games anyway, and although they did provide some advantages for the final assassination, they would be incredibly minor do to the necessity of an entire "cinematic experience" for the main mission, meaning that it couldn't detour that much from what the devs planned for the player.

I wish there was a game where guards were actually pretty perceptive along with what you say

>No creeping behind guards to choke them out, they can and will hear your footsteps and have enough time to fight back or at least yell to alert a few more enemies. Best way is to lay in wait where they patrol or bait them into a good position with a gadget

>Or you can use the stealth pistol, but it has very limited ammo and it's not that silenced, so you have to be very careful when you use it

>Moving undetected makes too much noise, you'll probably spook someone

>Even if you stay perfectly still you'll have to hold your breath in the dark when guards are close by, otherwise they can hear your breathing

>Guards notify command center every five minutes, so you either take out the command center first or knock out a guard and have 5 minutes to take out the command center, otherwise the place goes on alert

>If on alert the guards get paranoid as fuck and will call for reinforcements and act as cautiously as possible even just wait patiently until the rest of the squad comes to enter where they think you are and fuck you for anything they find out of the ordinary

At least for a game on the hardest difficulty level or something

Thief Gold adds a bunch of missions, not just the Thieves guild. Also the first Thief game is probably not going to be what you expect. Some of it feels like you're playing a Thief in a D&D campaign. A lot of the missions are what you'd expect from stealth games, then there's shit with Tombs filled with zombies. I hated this shit when I first played, but it really grew on me and is one of those things you just don't see in games anymore. They ripped it all out in Thief 2, which is basically pure stealth and nothing comes close to this fucking day. Not even the Dark Mod.

This is kinda the reason I find it hard to play most stealth games. It never feels like you're sneaking in somewhere.

Old TF2's Spy was the only thing that really gave me that vibe, because you had to sneak around other players. This was before the cloak recharged from ammo, so your invisibility got you through checkpoints and you actually had to dance around peoples cone of vision while you where visible or just fucking hide while your cloak reacharged. You where also never in the same situation aside from attacking engineers or snipers, who just camp the same spot. Nobody played the spy back then because it use to be hard as balls but then they dumbed it down with shit like the dead ringer.

Hitman's got the "NPCs have memory of a goldfish, except that they have psychic powers when a very specific set of circumstances or conditions are met" problem, and it's system is just switching costumes and either running without letting anyone stop to complete a check on you or walking very very slowly.

>just recently playing hitman 2: slient assassin'

the snipers in the 2nd level in japan are retarded, if they start shooting at you for some random reason, restart the level because you're fugged, i don't know about the nip with the hueg cans giving you the special keycard, i should actually play the original hitman.

the penthouse level was extremely good and well-designed, as soon as the girl near the painting starts checking the money, break the fuses and get slient assassin as you go for cash, statue and fibre wire / sliently shoot the target, then hop into the elevator as the tech goes up the elevator, and the patterns should sync up to the point where

the level where you need to kill the lieutenant & colonel i didn't know colonel was ranked higher is easy to break and since the requirements for slient assassin isn't too harsh (depending on the actions you do, you get lee-way with some kills or shots, like you get a free alert if you never shoot), doing it legitimately is retarded, not as free-flowing as the other missions (why the fuck do i have to wait around in this specific spot so the colonel sits in this corner, he isn't taking a piss or anything it's fucking retarded)

The one thing I absolutely hate in hitman 2: silent assassin is sight radius/arc, it's different for each character and hell different for EACH region/location, the ninjas in japan had a wide arc and despite being in the fucking snow, they can hear my footsteps in constant snow and they walk faster than my stealth walk, man that's fucking gay.

Oh, so that's another busted way, but I liked my method better which was even more busted, which involves just chucking a smoke grenade into your jeep and then hightailing it outta there, all the guys in the base even move away from you because they're afraid of the smoke and they don't even see you.

A lot less switching clothes a lot more involved role playing and larping in your disguise with dialogue trees is what he's getting at, I think.

First mission briefing,"This is a new kind of terrorist ,he believes in information warfare" ,And at that point I knew that I am going to enjoy the game

Changing speed with the scroll is still great ,I noticed that if you walk to the sides you make more noise on the same speed than just turning your mouse to turn , which I assume is because of how you would sneak with a controller

There were 2 thing I didn't like about the game:

1.Every time you knock out a guard you can hear his radio going "Are you ok guard X , guard X respond , I think we have a man down" but nothing happens,Maybe they changed their plans during development

2.I have no fucking idea how to do Bathhouse on 100% with the enemies in the last part being aware of you all the time and it made my final score 98%

There is also a problem that a lot of games have which is connected to being a saving bitch ,the alarm state sometimes doesn't noticed that you loaded a save were you didn't get detected yet

> The perfect social stealth game with NPCs involved will never happen because "AI" is not truly AI it's just shitty fuzzy logic and can and will be gamed.

That's not why a social stealth game is hard to do at all; it basically boils down entirely to writing and building the levels to accommodate for as many possibilities as possible. The coding for it shouldn't be harder then making different states for NPCs taking into account the dialogue trees vs what you're "supposed" to do for your disguise vs what you're caught doing. How many variables and states you'd need to account for that goes back to the writing.

No matter how you cut it, CT was already easier than SC1 through sheer gear generosity, and that's before giving you contextual options like overhead pipes that often trivialized whatever room you were trying to get through.

That's what I was getting at when I described CT as like being on godmode.
