Yea you can run homebrew with any firmware, you want but, it's a pain in the ass.

There's a tethered way's to load homebrew by making the switch boot into recovery mode and send the payload from the pc to the switch (Which has to be done every time to you boot the console to load homebrew) And is done by shorting a couple of joycon pins.

Or you could install something called "autoRCM" which basically fucks with the switch to automatically boot into recovery mode by itself and can load any payload you want.

And just as a word of advise, stay on 1.0 for the time being.

Through software, no because the only way that you could do it was by redirecting an eshop game to load other data but that requires a game from the eshop to be installed.

This is a nonissue, in (((the current year))) many devices can plug into most TVs, stream from your PC to a portable device with physical controls, you can sit on a couch, in bed, etc.

That also nullifies the "best emulation device" as outside of specific emulators PC emulators are better most of the time.

I haven't played Xenoblade 2, but aside from the art style I think the DLC would be more your style. pls help I have an important question: First time you get the switch, it asks someone to make a user account. Game saves are tied to this user when playing games. If at some point, instead of restoring from a backup where this user account already exists, I do a FULL system re-initialize, meaning that the account will be deleted, can I just re-create the account by typing in the same name, and then if I restore the game saves via checkpoint, it will work with that user account? SX OS has changed the lockdown to just endlessly loop without locking your emmc if it detects attempts to circumvent the DRM.

The fix is just a reboot. Annoying but not nearly as bad.

The only forum complaints I saw was one dude who somehow happened to trip the thermal throttle right after it was announced as possible but improbable to trigger.

The tweets where it was later claimed to be "easier to trigger than previously thought" hold little to no substance and read like somebody realizing their fame is fading to alternative CFW and needed more spotlight.

There are far more users of SX OS that haven't encountered it vs the one or two people that "just happened" to have it happen to them when they found out it was possible.
