What are some games that you would consider being mechanically complex. I would define 'being complex' as many different and unique systems that the player character can use to complete his goal. So games like Nethack come to mind.

I'll also allow games you would consider narrative complex, though I doubt there are many games that are

Aurora and DF are the kings. Cataclysm DDA was pretty good but dev seems to have stalled. Orbiter space sim is a nice upgrade past KSP in certain ways. Watching this thread Ive been craving something complex.

Did anyone here beat Yu-No without using that guide? Even then it's a very vague guide and hardly makes sense. I needed a worded guide. How the fuck did they expect us to find out some of that shit?

I will say, however, that Yu-No's soundtrack was exquisite, and the aesthetics couldn't be beat.

The second half of the game is really linear though, and I don't even think it has any branching paths whatsoever.

It doesn't. But it's still the best part of the game. With all of the crazier bullshit that happens, the UI change from being point and click to menu based, and the setting and tone change you would think it was a different game,

>inb4 assfaggots

In terms of pure mechanical complexity, at a high level Dota and HoN have a lot of systems to use and abuse under the hood.

While the basics are easy to understand, you can pretty quickly get to concepts like the nuances of creep wave manipulation, or each of the >100 heroes and their individual mechanics.

Then you get to wacky shit like dropping your items at opportune moments to maximize regeneration abilities, tread toggles between each spell cast and attack animation start to maximise dps and mana management or funky tricks like soloing roshan with armlet.

Then comes proper management of the RTS type heroes of Chen, Meepo and Broodmother (to an extent). There's probably more after that but I'm pretty shit and still learning that aspect.

Juggling all of these things at once gets very complicated, very fast, if you're in the mood for a game with a lot to dive into.

There was an online game(played on a browser IIRC) that took place in Ancient Egypt. It was very complex and very old, started in 2003 or in late 90s IIRC. But I can't remember its name. I tried searching what it was but I just can't find it, starting to think it never existed

You might be thinking about A Tale In The Desert. It's still around and while I've never played it, I know people who have and it's kind of cool since a lot of the content revolves around players making the rules, making new games and challenges, and even economies/governments. That being said it's grindy as fuck, puts some korean MMOs to shame.

That might be it, I just checked and its on its 8th version, the game I was talking about had different versions every few years too. It's also very difficult because IIRC, when I tried playing it I come across something math related that I couldn't solve and my math was really good back then. I tried it when it was on its third version I think

I couldn't get through it without the guide. Apparently the clue was supposed to be that whenever you're at a place where the path branches the jewels in the corner of the screen will flash, which is an indicator that you should use one there and come back later.

Steel Beasts Pro PE. Takes a bit of studying to learn the basics. Every model of tank has it's own unique quirks and operating procedures. Conversely, the map/command interface both allows vastly more detailed orders and is simpler to use than the equivalent in fucking Arma. Go figure.

Yu-no isn't a visual Novel at least for the first 2/3rds of the game minus the prologue It's a point and click adventure game.

The game has you going through a groundhogs day time loop. As you go through the game and travel different timelines, you can collect gems that will allow to to travel to the place and time you set the stone, essentially creating a save state that will allow you to carry items over. There's puzzles in the game that require you to use the savestates to dupe single use items. There's also shit like the game having you decipher a fake language and a clock puzzle which the only way to know the answer is by watching the intro movie.

Before you write it off as a visual novel I recommend you actually play it.

My Summer Car

As far as I can tell it's the only game where you can fuck with valve timing (by ear) and carburation (either with help with an in game gauge or by checking the color of the smoke), beyond that, you have to check and refill the fluids and replace worn down parts with new ones, including the tires.
