Yeah, KFC is more ancient and oily than Zaxbys though so it's probably more carcinogenic, but that's partly why its so cheap, not much difference beyond that and a lot of pepper.

As an african, I will say that KFC is really average. They rely too much on oil and moisture and that ends up messing up the other stuff. As someone who's worked at KFC, it's shit. Easily one of the worst places I've worked at (and that's saying something for where I live). It wasn't always like this of course, I think a shift in management happened a few years ago and the degradation is starting to set in.

They really just don't know how to manage the places… They expect the worker to work like some kind of perfect machine instead of coming to some compromise to ensure that the food is of decent quality. Like the workers have to use dirty water and rancid flour to prepare the chicken because they just don't have enough time to do otherwise because they're not allowed to cook too much in case it gets "wasted" aka arbitrarily throwing it away because it's one minute past the best by time even though a customer literally just ordered 40 of them at the same time you threw them away. The managers have no empathy and don't even know their own rules properly. So when you get used to one routine and think you're starting to do ok, guess what? Apparently you were doing this and that wrong even though you were never told to do that at all! So now you have to do a slower method which is worse and now you're going to be told off for being too slow…

Most of the workers just don't give a shit as a result and will just prioritise speed over quality (when it doesn't have to be like that at all) so they can get good boy marks for availability when their chicken is bad enough to give food poisoning (I even saw a customer review of someone getting food poisoning a month after I left, lmao) I can totally understand why people crack under pressure and their outbursts are directed towards customers (they're demanding as fuck, let's be real) because you're not allowed to criticise management or say you know better than them because you risk your job, so that's the only way you have of release.

This whole marketing bullshit is because their product is SHIT and marketing people are the ones in charge and they have no idea what to do with their product so this is the way the try to increase revenue. Don't look at your own problems and try to pretend everything is ok, yeah that'll definitely do good for us in the long run!

none of the chicken is ground/reformed. It all comes in big plastic bags, frozen, raw, and covered in juices. The nuggets and strips are pre-cut/separated, the breasts aren't yet filleted, we do that in store at least twice a day. We use a milk and egg wash followed by a coating that, at it's base, is flour, sugar, and pickle juice. After that it's deep fried for either 3-1/2 or 4-1/2 minutes depending on the product(also for what it's worth, we fry in very small batches, and there's pretty much always something cooking at any given time).

Every food company has a demographic they appeal to. Nigs like fried chicken, so KFC used to capitalize a lot on that. Popeyes, when it came out, was a chicken and biscuit place, but they realized they got a lot of black customers, and shifted to 'louisana kitchen' and using commercials with an all-black or nearly all-black cast. That said, the food is pretty good, but the chicken itself tends to not have a massive amount of flavor; it tastes like straight-up fried chicken. In my opinion, they have the best original fried chicken.

KFC has started focusing on the 'absurd' as its commercial of choice. It uses white folk in a southern setting, and tries to appeal to that demographic, since it realized it lost the black war to Popeyes. They have better flavor than Popeyes, thanks the seasonings, and the 5 Dollar Fill Up is one of the best deals in terms of calorie per dollar, so it also works well for college students who don't want to poison themselves with Taco Bell. However, they lose out in terms of the 'fried chicken' taste, and if you've ever been to an all you can eat KFC, you'd know how nasty the pieces can get if they sit around in their oil, since they aren't as crispy (even the crispy ones). The strips are pretty great, though, and their sides are strictly superior.

Chik-Fil-A is not the best in terms of cost, but has the best tasting food, and the best quality in terms of "will this kill me if I eat it?" Their advertising is based on the cows, and has been from the start; they are without apology the "Christian chicken place" and by the rule that all publicity is good publicity, have capitalized on that fact to become quite successful in the market. The disadvantage they have is that they are a chicken sandwich place: This means they have the best chicken sandwiches, but not really anything else. They're much like In-n-Out in that regard: In-N-Out only does hamburgers and fries, but does hamburgers and fries well. They are a specialty place, and they gain the benefit of that.

In general, chicken QSRs are better than non-chicken QSRs. Chicken is healthier for you, has a higher protein content per the amount relative to fat, and has a wonderful taste when fried up. Not to mention that chicken places tend to specialize in chicken, rather than go broad, like burger joints. So you actually get quality instead of Q U A L I T Y.
