Can't agree with you anon. Nobody gives a hoot about tetris anymore, in the same way nobody gives a hoot about sokoban clone #5000 or light puzzle #9000. Everyone's familiar with it (and in the case of sokoban/light puzzles, probably solved a puzzle in a game based on the concept). There's nothing new to explore, no matter how many bells and whistles you want to pile on.
The real issue is how innovative puzzle games get forgotten and how puzzle games are just nothing more than mobile fodder now. Games like Echochrome, Echoshift and Spacechem are long forgotten. Hell, in the 80's you still had Block Out and that was a cool take on tetris, but that's been forgotten too.

This is literally one step closer to Lumines in VR and I want it. However, I do want to hear better music in it, Mizuguchi seems to be losing taste. LUMINES had great original songs and good to great licensed songs (with a few misses), but Area X in REZ infinite was just okay. It's not just about speed, really. The fun part of CE DX was redirecting the puzzle elements into a more predictable pattern while rewarding chaining ghosts properly over avoiding them all together. The Rez team are making a video game based on the synthenesia of playing Tetris for extended periods of time. If you play Tetris a lot then you probably experienced this too. You will eventually start seeing every day objects and activities as a game of Tetris and your brain will make connections and involuntary synapses for completely unrelated phenomenon. This is based on a scientific study that had 1,000 people play Tetris for 7 hours straight and then locked one control group in a white room over night and the other released into the real world. The real world group developed the synthenesia while the white room group did not. Tetris was shown to actually develop the mind in unique ways. The core premise of the game is articulating what this is like as an audio visual Rez style journey to electronic music. It's Rez plus Tetris.

There's were lots of ancient libraries, many of which had redundant copies of works from other nearby libraries. By the time the Christians finished it off, the Library of Alexandria was already pretty much in ruin. Most of it's knowledge had been transferred to other libraries and private individuals around the Empire.
The Muslims destroyed more knowledge of the ancient world in their conquests of Europe than the Christians or Romans did. There were a lot of libraries around in the ancient world, and they copies and traded books among them, because it was a pain in the ass for a scholar to travel across the Mediterranean each time they needed reference material.

It's a little more than that. Anyone who played Lumines knows that Mizuguchi would be the perfect person to make a rhythm game out of tetris, but even back when it came out, or even when Rez and Child of Eden came out, so many people just couldn't be bothered.
The people I talked to in person were worse. They'd look at me dumbfounded and just went 'I don't get it' or 'it's weird' and 'so, what's the story?' 'cause when you get down to it the crowds are about as focused as a cat chasing a laser pointer and they perceive things with equal simplicity. To them it's all just random shit on the screen.
