This seems like a decent thread to be asking in.
My PC's 11 years old and I'm looking for an upgrade, nothing too insane and I'm more than happy playing all-low 720p or less if it means 60 fps, but I figured I'd pick something a bit mid-range such that it lasts for longer and I don't have to compromise and not play certain non-2D games or emulation. Thing is I don't really have much experience with PC hardware, as in I have no idea what to be looking for outside of price and I honestly feel like I'm simply blindly following reviews with little understanding of why a card is better than something or what components would fit together well. It's not like I'm not that tight of a budget but I'd like to go in a bit more informed and not splurge too much like a retard when I could get similar performance with cheaper.

Honestly it depends on how much money you want to spend.
Currently the market for certain PC parts is stupid expensive things Graphics cards and ram can have upwards of a 50% price hike from just a few years ago. Here's a the best breakdown I can provide.
CPU: AMDs new Ryzen cpus are currently considered the best mid-range for the price with more cores but worse single thread performance than current intel cpus ( Ryzen single core performance is about equivalent to late 2014 - 2015 intel mid-range), Intel still reigns king at the high end
RAM: Expensive right now and because amd Ryzen performs better with higher speed ram (best value is around 2800-3200mhz) you'd have to pay a bit more than going for lower speed ram, new intel cpus are not as ram dependent.
Motherboard: Finding a good motherboard for your cpu is really a matter of what you are going to use it for (Overclocking, regular use etc) The best advice I have for choosing a good quality motherboard Is look at breakdowns from overclocker forums and reviewers who will provide specs on how well each motherboard performs and if you want the mid range you start from their mid range and down.
GPU: Prices are fucked for both AMD and Nvidia, the latest AMD cards were lackluster, Nvidia still has the best performance you can check comparison sites like passmark and see how well they perform generally and what scores what.

You can grab a 128GB M.2 SSD for less than 50 bucks now unless the price went up last I bought one which is very possible in the current market like I did and just use that as a dedicated boot drive.

SSDs make a major difference, I used to be like you, thinking it was all overhype, but naw, you don't realize how much you need an SSD until you get one. Just not having to worry about your boot drive becoming fragmented alone is worth it. If you're still skeptical, I would just get a small (128GBs or less) SSD just to use as a boot drive for Windows, you'll still be able to use your old SATA drive to store games and shit. I personally have my Downloads, Documents, Videos, and Pictures folder linked to my HDD while my boot drive is still my SSD. (just right-click the Downloads folder in Windows and it should be easy to just move it to the HDD from there and have all programs recognize it)
Your HDD will actually benefit from having your boot drive on an SSD since it wont be bottlenecked by OS I/O anymore

Basically early on you wouldn't see any real gains compared to DDR3 because everyone was promoting and buying cheap shit like 2133/2400 or lower and you couldn't really make up the increased latency with transfer and while the raw bandwidth was better that's not that useful most of the time rate.
3200 is where it's at now and that's gonna be actually much better.
You can't use DDR4 with your current setup and the only setups that give you a choice are not something you're gonna wanna buy in the future (skylake) otherwise you don't get a choice, although expect the same shit to happen with DDR5 and it'll likely be the same answer.

Your mobo doesn't support AHCI and doesn't even have SATA III. Look into these things before you waste your money. Your set will not get any speed benefits because SATA II and you risk creating a setup that will freeze randomly for minutes because no AHCI. Even with AHCI people are reporting their SSD's are freezing so they end up installing and running their OS in IDE mode which is stupid because IDE is for old drives. Look it up if you want to know more. SSD's aren't what they are hyped up to be, certainly not for people with older hardware. You're welcome.

Yeah it's made for backups to begin with, it's just hard to fit in a regular computer since that usually will need SAS connectors and / or be made to fit in a server rack.
The only real problems is that the software to use tape drives is usually really bad, and tapes are mostly made for storage not for constant access so if you want something from a tape you have to transfer to a regular drive beforehand

I've not tried anything else worth considering big cans but I'll still drop a line for the Takstar Pro82, didn't believe 70 bucks chinkshit would sit on my head for a week straight when I have a pair of X2 but they're better for high heat and sound isolation and the sound quality and comfort loss is noticeable but not horrible

Lets say you have an app you want to install on your phone that's not on the appstore. Here's how you do it on both devices
On android
1.Plug the phone in
2.Drag the apk onto the phone
3.Tick on "Enable installing apps from foreign soruces"
4.Open the file manager app and tap on the apk and install it.
On ios
1.Have itunes installed
2.find out if the version of ios you're running can be hacked.
3.Download software to hack your iphone to install cydia
4.Add source and install app if it's from cydia if not, continue
5.install a source for cydia to get appsync for your version of ios from.
5.plug your phone it and wait for itunes to detect the phone
6.Install the .ipa
Seriously nigger, you shouldn't have to hack your device to do such a basic task.

Windows is fully on the 1TB SSD. Linux has the old Intel X-25M SSD which despite heavy abuse seems like it will outlive me. And the spinning rust is unused from an older build. The gigabit interbutts are pretty nice (that game is dogshit btw, but it was free this weekend and I'd not seen for myself).
