Let's talk about RPG maker games, as fuck you, I think they can be fun when done well.

We all know of the fact that the dominant genre when it comes to RPG maker games besides traditional RPG's is ironically horror. We have games like Ib, Witch's House, Mad Father and other ones like them, with a lot of good surreal games like OFF which you should really play and Middens. That said, do you guys maybe know any good RPG maker games that are centered around comedy? The only one that comes to my mind right now is Space Funeral and although pretty funny, it wasn't exactly comedy in the traditional sense of the word.

RPG maker is probably also one of the favourite engines for porn games creators and there is some quality stuff when you look deep enough Wasn't Lulu Farea a RPG Maker game too?, there is Violated Heroine and everyone is constantly crying about that game not being translated.

Also as far as RPG maker versions go, 2000 and 2003 are pretty fun to use but also lack in some of the things that later version had, XP was fucking great (but it's RTP lacked the resources to make a world map, although it had far more other resources which helped making unique locations), VX was lacking and kind of annoying to use but was servicable, and VX Ace is probably the best version so far. MV is fucking dogshit and really fucking unpleasant to use.

I liked the Lisa game, but those have pretty much been discussed to death here.

I think it's not possible to discuss RPG maker games without discussing this one.

You reminded me that I didn't include the most important RPG maker game.

No, it was WOLF RPG.

What are you talking about? It's constantly being translated by a squad of autists.

The problem with VH is that it barely updates, because it's kinda open source and the devs are constantly remastering everything instead of adding new content.

I did play a lot of RPGMaker Games back then, so I can recommend some hidden gems :

- Middens ( can't really explain this one )

- Gingiva ( a sequel-ish to Middens, less random )

- Miserere ( Yume Nikki clone, in space and quite creepy at times )

- Reincarnations ( RPG, great story and quality; very incomplete + hiatus )

- Tales of a Drunken Paladin ( RPG, hilarious and nonsensical, interesting world-building )

- Touhou - Wandering Souls ( Bullet Hell Platformer; I really can't believe this was made in the RPG Maker engine )

And not so hidden gems :

- To The Moon

- Finding Paradise

I remember struggling to come up with a cool fighting system when I was starting to use RPG Maker 2000/2003 since I didn't want to use the shitty default turn based first person crap. Nothing wrong with turn based, I just didn't like its implementation of it.

I ended up mostly relying on set pieces to keep things interesting. The thing about RPG maker is that unless you put a lot of work into coming up with an original combat system, there's just no way to make it interesting.

Reminder that you're worse than pajeet if you use RPG maker to make games. Even indian street shitters can make games with real engines and programming languages.

The Legion Saga trilogy was really fun, at least back in the day. A Blurred Line was another good one.

If you like Horror Games, I reccomend the stuff by dev named Uri. The Wicked Man, the Sandman (which admiteddly is more surreal rather than scary), the Boogeyman, and the Hanged Man, as well as Mermaid Swamp and Paranoiac.

They're all horror adventures, and most have several different endings depending on how much you fuck up or don't. Although the best endings can be a pain to get without walkthroughs.

>shilling our game

2f9b1b No.14833360

The good point of RPG Maker, that anyone can make a game, is also it's biggest flaw, as much of what's made for it is shit. Though I feel that's less an issue with the engine than it is the average levels of creativity in the populace. For the love of god, if you're using RPG Maker for your game, don't use the default assets in the final build, and don't use scripts for what you can do with events.

On that note, does anyone know a good sprite

editor for making, say, Game Boy graphics?

>>14832196 >MV is fucking dogshit and really fucking unpleasant to use.

Really? Guess I won't be switching development over to that then, good to know.

I wouldn't consider it shilling to mention a game you worked on as long as you only bring it up when it's relevant and you aren't, like, being pushy about trying to get people to play it.

At least that's the guidelines I use for myself when it comes to bringing up Sage.

>MV is fucking dogshit and really fucking unpleasant to use.

I thought the multitude of plugins saved it. I've been wondering why even recent H-RPGs on DLsite still use the VX Ace engine.

>I thought the multitude of plugins saved it.

Change of programming language from RGSS to Javascript fucked over it so hard.

>I've been wondering why even recent H-RPGs on DLsite still use the VX Ace engine.

Majority of plugins that make H-games viable to do were done for VX Ace.
