Crawl, pixelshit indie. One guy is the hero going through a dungeon, the others are ghosts that try to kill him and take his place by possessing traps and monsters. Up to 4 players, local only. Visuals can be messy and confusing but its very quick to pick up for anyone.
Pic related is a list by another anon, PS3 only though

Tales series is fun to co-op, and most of the console entries include the option, aside from Phantasia SFC and Legendia. That said, obviously it's going to be more fun if those involved can tolerate/like JRPGs, and co-op is generally restricted to combat (though I want to say some minigames might be co-opable, but it's been a while since I played something like Eternia with it's WHIS game). Also, depending on the game, the requirement to access co-op, manual mode, if not accessible from the start of the game, will require either the Technical Ring (an equip that eats an accessory slot, and of which you'd need one per active party slot to use), or the Manual Manual (a key item which does not eat an equip slot) be found first, though most games since Symphonia avoid having the item requirement. Xillia, Xillia 2, and Zesteria are also somewhat hampered in co-op due to the Link and Armatization systems requiring AI controlled partners to utilize, reducing maximum feasible co-op from four to two (you can still have up to four players, but you won't be able to utilize big parts of the game's combat system without taking them out of control).

The N64 version is far and away the best version of Legends. For Dark Legacy, the question is harder to answer because all the versions had something or other wrong with them.

Digimon world 4
Its a hack and slash dungeon crawler that supports up to 4 players. Definetly requires some commitment to get all 4 people to try and play through it. It's super heavy on grinding and rng so if you like MMO's and want a co-op offline game like that, this would be a good consideration. A good group of friends who play D&D or have mmo guilds and enjoy long campaigns together will find this game to be a good time commitment.

>Arcade > anything
The arcade Legends and Dark Legacy aren't better than anything. They're infamously cheap games where your health is constantly draining to force you to put in more quarters. People often have this erroneous conception of arcade games as shameless quarter munchers, but the 3D Gauntlet games are some of the few examples that hit the stereotype to a tee. All the console ports are better because they get rid of that asinine bullshit and make the games an actual test of skill.

You can turn that function off. It is possible to beat the game on one quarter with the health drain if you're good enough. Plus holding items in the console versions makes bosses trivial.

N64 is the best, but make sure you have expansion RAM in. The fact that you can STOCK ITEMS makes it the best. Dark Legacy is alright, but if you're gonna play it, softmod a Wii, a Wii will cost you less than the fucking GCN game, or the PS2 with a multitap
