Yes. Cloud goes through a ton of character development. What you've seen in AC, KH, and Dissidia is one very brief snapshot of who he actually is.

Every time you want a specific detail of the original, you'll have to dig through the remake's bullshit. I will agree though that it's not erased, I just hate remakes and such.

That's true, but any time something is remade, it changes the perception of the original. That goes doubly so if anything significant is changed. A New Hope can't be watched the same way as it was before the Director's Cut was released, because even if people watch the original, in the back of their heads, everyone's thinking about how Han shot first, not about the scene itself. I'm still cautiously optimistic about VII's remake, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Not unless you can't stand turn-based JRPG combat. Otherwise, it's pretty timeless. Graphics are dated but the gameplay is good for what it is but you're probably playing it for the story, setting, and characters. Those definitely stand up by today's standards, with a great soundtrack to tie it all together.

This is something I forgot to mention because of how ubiquitous it was back then before eventually falling by the wayside in modern years. Having full FMV cutscenes was a fucking HUGE deal, and made for incredible screenshots and video clips during the marketing.

One thing that I remember from the plot of FF7 was that it reflected the spirit of the 90's pretty well, we were all into that ozone hole, Y2K, environmentalism, greenhouse effect and all that bullshit and that's basically the core of the game plot (we must save the planet from muh evil corps).

That's honestly the first time I've ever heard the PS1's library characterized as "childish." Twisted Metal was a launch window title and successful enough to spawn two sequels on the same platform. Resident Evil was also out at the time of FF7's release, and those are just the two most obvious ones I can think of. Clock Tower might have been out too, I can't remember.

sure, when you pretend it doesn't have a jobs system, and it also fixes one of the primary complaints of FFX, namely that for most of the game, you had no choice in where you went to next and were shuttled around in a highly linear experience. In X-2 most locations are open during each chapter, and story progression happens when you complete certain events, while others are entirely optional unless you're going for best ending

If you pick a version emulate the PSX one. The PC version has this odd issue where the music doesn't loop properly and it restarts after every battle. It seems like a petty gripe but it really kills the atmosphere of the game.
Also they made the already atrocious character models worse by giving them gaping circle mouths, Sephiroth in particular looks like he has profound retardation.

Cloud is different in FF7 than in any of its extended universe material, FFX is good and if you get into Final Fantasy now you can probably only expect pain and suffering because all the biggest talent that made the series great has left Square Enix. Your post has to be bate. I loved ever final fantasy form 1-7, I hated 10 to 13-3 and unironically enjoyed 15 despite its lacking substantive combat. Indifferent about the rest. While I am not willing to bet any money on this, I could imagine the FF7 remake being decent with a modified FFXV engine that would improve the combat. The games biggest issue was severe lack of depth and challenge in the combat, everything else was rather great.
