I was replaying the first Witcher recently, and the combat really wasn't that bad as I remembered it. It wasn't good mind you, but it was strangely satisfying. After the first Act was over, it became rather easy too. I think only the boss in the first chapter (the Beast?) gave me real trouble due to him stun-locking me to death. Shame other games simplified alchemy into oblivion.

3 is my favourite, then 1 and then 2. 3 had a lot of problems but overall its better. 1 was much better focused and the act format is better for Witcher but the gameplay, VA, animations etc.are really bad. 2 had bad combat and still a great story but it comes short compared to 1 and 3. If anything else, Act IV from Witcher 1 and the expansions from Witcher 3 show that the best Witcher stuff is the "short story" approach. Give me a new Witcher game where there is like six acts/chapters that are Hearts of Stone sized quest lines and zones.

Yen is best girl, she is much more charismatic than Triss and feels much more real. Triss, despite being a plotting bitch and using you, is somehow the bland, nice girl you should want to be with. Her character doesn't feel genuine, whereas Yen does. Not to mention their history with each other and Ciri.

Ironically, White Orchard is one of the hardest areas in the game since all enemies are guaranteed to be scaled proportional to your level from the getgo, making the Nilfgaardians and the cemetery Wriath naturally more difficult than if you went there top clean up a contract at about Lv20 (even the first ghouls pose a relative challenge for first time payers at about Lv2). I found the base game to be relatively well balanced on DMnoQ up until about halfway through Novigrad (with notable differences between fuck off you are too weak/newfag areas), but your mod might have artificially increased the healthbars or added extra, useless damage types and resistances since the base base below DM/using the shitterspell is ridiculously easy.

0 Doing anything you want seems like an unnecessary change, since if you commit to the very few mission locked quests you should expect you will have to finish them in their given time. Most quests can be started and ignored in the first place, but if you want to go to Novigrad whilst dealing with 'impending threats' or just put a chase mission on hold to grab some herbs in Oxenfurt and ruin immersion, go ahead.

-Removing iFrames is stupid. As I will follow on, many enemies are balanced around being able to SoulsRoll through heavily telegraphed attacks. For example, much later on in the game minimal spoilers there is a Giant enemy boss that wields an anchor. Getting hit by the anchor is basically a OHKO, and his general fight is him distracting you with chip damage attacks before going for OHKO tier attacks when you back off to heal. This is balanced by being able to roll through the attack, in turn closing the gap and getting you in an offensive position. This attack is good at tracking, so when he goes for it, you are probs going to be hit. This change would be great at punishing quenshitters in the mod since they can rely on taking a bit of damage, but it forces you to play a certain playstyle; which if you do prevents you from using your other 3 main offensive Signs/Yrden to such a degree (especially if they are making Signs rely off a different bar). This also combos poorly with the forced consumable/high prices change; making basically forced chip damage from wolves more common, and in turn even more annoying to deal with

-Removing levels in exchange for scaling makes the game easier and shallower. There is in turn no fuck off you aren't supposed to be here areas and no truly difficult fights as you slog back out of through areas you aren't supposed to be (Such as the far South/East of Velen). Also it ruins the concept of a build, since you can just grind out skill points on beefy enemies. No more specialised Combat/Sign/Alchemy/Generalist Geralt, it seems the game just funnels you into Generalist Geralt with given paths. It also makes certain fun abilities harder to get (such as the Sign ones) because in the base game they are shit until you put a few skill points in them, making them useful. It appears in W3EE, they are permanently shit until you use it X amount of times in it's shit state to make it kind of decent for a perk which is just something that is fun to goof around with. For example Axii is pretty shit in combat; but out of combat its a nifty little skill to use and later has a moderate amount of situational combat utility. Forcing the player to use shit low level Axii for a good chunk of game seems dumb to get what would otherwise be a nice little perkdump for a situational fun Sign at best.

-Making basically all enemies parryable is an extremely easy to abuse mechanic. The real challenge that larger enemies provide is to force spacing; some of the harder fights in a Death March game include 2 early huge enemies (the Metz Golem and the Shreiker) whos' main challenge is the large range of attacks forcing the player to focus more on zoning, coupled with beefy healthbars. Being able to parry both of them makes their fights exponentially easier; along with a few of the other harder later game enemies such as Giants or Slyzards

-Looking at the prices for potions and the change to make all consumables that seems excessively tedious in the goal of making it more like W1. The majority of enemies in the game do not in any way need oils to be beaten, but bombs and potions are just pieces of utility that are used at will. I appreciate that the basegame balance is out of whack in some areas (such as the Instaheal potion being a relatively cheap mechanic and effectively free health when comboed with the Toxicity clear potion), but overall potions are used on the fly and not in preparation. This isn't a Monster Hunter 20-minute-OHKO-boss game yet the mod treats it as such. Using the time-slow-on-kill potion is extremely fun, but only when in a situation when you just happen upon 15+ enemies at once; not something you would go out of your way to prepare for. Add on to this the fact consumables are expensive as fuck to make, yet they seem to keep the prices the same; thus making the game artificially harder, like Bloodborne but you can't loot or grind out Blood Vials. This game is not W1. Although the Alchemy system in W1 is great; it is not suitable for W3. In W1 there are 10 oils, 9 decoctions and 21 potions. In W3 there are 12 oils (with 3 variants each), 27 decoctions and 12 potions (with 3 varients each). Making the W3 potions limited with the same expensive price as before bascially appears to make consumables extremely situational and disgustingly tedious to grind in Death March

I've beaten every Dark Souls game using nothing but a shield, beaten every Furi boss individually without taking a hit and beat W3 in my first cycle on DMnoQuen. I know first hand that there is a tangible difference between challenging (good hard) and tedious (bad hard). This mod appears to make the game more challenging in some areas (limb cripples, varying attack patterns up) but makes it extremely tedious in others (consumables are permanent, no iFrames vs huge enemies and annoying chip enemies); whilst at the same time making some of the joys and better challenges in the base game redundant (Most enemies and in turn 1v1 bosses can be parried, Builds and niche perks/consumables are nonexistant)

If the bug fixes are indeed god-tier, then that could be a selling point; but from what it looks like this mod will harm your experience of the game. The game is not a fighting game. The ingame combat does what it sets out to do; simple easy to pick up and a moderate amount of depth that can be explored. The mod appears to try to shift the game from a very good Role Playing game to a tedious Combat game. If you want a combat game; play KCD or Nioh; not a modded W3. But overall this mod appears to do worse than it does good.

Just a quick autism addon while scrawling the notes, it says that it

-auotfills your Bestiary (removing the fun in finding new monsters/ bosses)

-all the prices have been lowered (but not the 30000 quest)

-all inventory space is now forced to be transferred onto Roach (making spelunks a veritable nightmare)

-Potions now have a startup animation (making Alchemy builds ded in the water)

-Geralt can sustain limb damage which only heals at full HP (added bullshit to the potion startup time)

These just seem like a really fucking anti-fun scummy moves because LUL BULLSHIT IS HARD AND HARD IS FUN :DDDDD. Holy shit I changed my stance; just uninstall this mod. This doesn't seem to make the game hard; in the way it just makes the game a shitshow tedious piece of shit.

If this mod wanted to make the game hard; it would make enemies more aggressive, less exploitable whilst increasing given resistances and increasing focus on counterplay. Blood and Wine is harder than the main game not because numbers, but since monsters have much more pronounced defences and weaknesses; such as Shaelmars being literal tanks without a stun bomb, or Bruxas being mean motherfuckers without Moon Dust.

It's a different kind of game from the first two. If you're a completionist you'll be at it for a good 300 hours or so just from the sheer size of the world. The alchemy is a lot more streamlined, for better or worse. Once you get the combat timing figured out it's easy to drop whole crews of bandits or monsters. Assassins of Kings was the one I liked least gameplay wise.

Yes; the plot is decent and the game is much more streamlined. The DLC's are eldritch god-tier good enough to play the entire game to lead up to them (HoS for the story and very deatiled quests. B&W for an extremely polished nugget improving on what W3 fell from; with B&W being larger than many games on the market nowadays). Some of the base game quests are very good; not that many are 'some fucker niked me cow, go fuck em up mista witcha' tier.

Comparisons, there is a lot less mass politics than TW2 and the preparation is either streamlined or oversimplified from W1 depending on how you look at it. Your choices from the old games do kind of affect certain quests though; which is nice.

If you want any form of fun from the combat though, play on Death March difficulty and never use the Quen sign otherwise it's a cakewalk to the credits.

Regardless it's pretty fucking cheap now; I picked up a GOTY copy for £15 and got about 250 good hours out of it; so I'd say it's bang for your buck.

Yes, Letho brought her to Nilfgaard where she was imprisoned due to the cunty lodge's business. She says that she was freed when Emhyr found traces of Ciri and her pursuers. According to Geralt, Yen has never been to Kaer Morhen, so I'm assuming she can't just teleport there. Also, I'm pretty sure Yen was freed AFTER Merigold had left Geralt (could be wrong here, but she says she was searching for Ciri for months, while Triss and Geralt split up after the events at Loc Muinne in TW2, according to Dijkstra). Triss mentions that sorceresses don't even dare to contact each other via magic out of fear. It's possible that Yen tried to contact Triss, but she turned off her 'sorceress phone' off due to the witch hunts. Thing is, the Wild Hunt also want to hunt Yen down as bait for Ciri and can sense whenever she uses her magic too. She has to get Geralt involved in this shit as a last resort to help Ciri.

Best mages? Nilfgaard executed their most powerful sorceresses for treason. There's not one famous Nilfgaardian sorcerer that I can even recall. One can never quite put a finger on what fantasy Elves are meant to portray, but Native Americans do seem to hit the nail on the head in the Witcher Universe (I always thought more Druidic people, but it makes sense); with the Vran representing a more Neanderthal man (hence the portrayal to be literally inhuman)

Branching to a separate topic, the reason why I think the Netflix will fail is because not a single Western writer/director seems to get what the fuck what different living fantasy races are meant to portray; especially since they were meant to represent different ethnic people in a less direct tone; since Tolkien didn't want to make a direct human racial divide. Nowadays, fantasy races are just treated as da minority and are reduced to happyhappy friendly depictions with each other against the humans.

-Dwarves are clearly inspired by Semitic people (Short; stereotypical greedy; Extremely segregational, huge and prosperous stone cities next to hostile lands, right-to-left language, even a quote in Tolkien where they rip their beards off when a king/loved one dies)

-Orcs are clear depiction of Northern Africans, with huge birthrates, tribal living conditions and are generally 'people without a home'; also characterised by their larger yet more thuggish behaviour.

-Elves are always in a state of flux, but usually represent Germanic peoples as opposed to the Humans (usually Romanic or Slavic).

-Hobbits/ Little People are often representations of the Brits/Irish

In Sapowski's work; we have the addition of Dryads, Dragons (more expanded on than Tolkiens work), Halflings(basically Hobbits), Dopplers, Higher Vampires, Sylvians and to a minor extent Trolls, Lesser/Greater Demons and Werewolves; as sentient beings each of them with their own racial identity, rivalries and allies, making this point even more pronounced on how fucking hard it would be to flesh a world out properly (hence why Witcher 3 only really had Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Halflings and Higher Vampires in B&W; with the other races making minor appearances and preludes to the larger scope of their people but never expanding it).

It is specifically because of these depictions of other races in fantasy media that authors never need to make the delineation between races; because they already are there. If you ever see something like an Asian man killing Easterlings or a Yorkshire man killing a Hobbit/Halfling; then the writer has clearly missed the huge fucking sign in front of them.

The issues I have with Hissrich is that I don't believe she is physically capable of being to make the deliniation. She is the kind of fuck who would believe that a Dwarf and a Dryad would be fine working together, when the natural hatred between the two races makes up for why the Scoiatael are so fractured at best (since the rebel group has so many racial factions they have no unified direction in part due to infighting; thus why the group operates better in silent alliance rather than a more powerful unified army).

CDPR knew full well the ethnic connotations of each race, with there being an NPC specifically comparing Dwarves to Moles, Elves to Swans and Halflings to Shrews. I think Hissrich will completely miss this by making Zoltan black or something; because the deeper racial connotations are forbidden thoughts to her and her hand hovering team.
