And don't get me started on blasters oh boy, every game must have 2 at each team. I can respect great charger or dynamo users, but fuck the blasters. I'll probably drop the game because it isn't fun anymore unless I log in to private battles and throw chickens.

Question here: does anybody know what's up with the rankings for each weapon? I'm talking about those Dry/Raw/Fresh/SUPERFRESH things. I got my main weapon to SUPERFRESH and I still won another match so 15 isn't the maximum. Does anybody know where the maximum lies and what does this affect, other than XP won on each 5 level increment? I already know that the penalty for losing goes from 0.5 points in 0.5 increments every 5 levels. I just want to know if there is anything to gain from putting oneself through all that with the Hero Charger Replica, other than the cute flag colors changing on the weapon selection screen.
Does it have anything at all to do with the silly glaring reflections I saw some pro players have in their weapons?

I think it's literally just the bonuses, as a motivation to change up your loadout. Flags aren't shown anywhere, and you don't get any cool cosmetics for it. Big opportunity lost if you ask me.
Shined up gear you've seen may have been Hero Replicas (which can look metallic/bronzish) or the two gold weapons which can be purchased at higher levels.

When you see that 'sparkle' on someone's weapon at the start of a match, it means they've won several matches in a row; the more they win, the bigger it gets.

At B level already, a knockout every two games sort of balances the gains you'd get from Turf Wars winning every two games. Try not to be absolute trash and hit the break even point around A or S, and you'll be raking in the big bucks for both G and exp.
Start with the Splattershot, it is the best shooter since it has decent range, 3 hit kill, decent ink efficiency and accuracy, and overall is the most reliable weapon in the game from balance perspective, likely the watermark against which other weapons get judged, so not likely to ever get nerfed. The alternatives can be cute to play, but they are almost never ever upgrades over the good old Splattershot, just sidegrades at best. Splat Dualies look like they are an upgrade but they are a 4 shot kill and the split reticle means you only fully utilize the crazy rate of fire after a dualie roll, which makes you a sitting duck for a whole second should you fuck up your follow up (and starting out you will). Shooters are also encouraged for beginners since movement with them is trivial, time to kill is quite fast and they work reasonably well in most situations.

I usually avoid anything requiring accuracy because I don't trust Ninty's netcode in the least, also the game developers seem to positively LOATHE sniping for some reason.

I am reliably top scorer as a Splat Charger main, my dude. It's all about how you use it. Also, if in your local game you manage a direct fully charged hit with a charger, it will always translate to a splat in both games, netcode be damned.
It took me long to git gud at Charger and now I keep on playing just not to lose the skill I built up.

SUPERFRESH goes from 15 to 99. Once you hit 50 the flag turns gold.
You get an XP bonus the first time you reach Raw/Fresh/SUPERFRESH per weapon. There is no bonus for gold, aside from the flag (only visible to you) on the phone app and in-game.
The weapon shine/sparkle seen at the very start of a match is related to that player's current winrate, but you can lose 4 games in a row and still sparkle so who gives a fuck.

What this means is that it's like a tentatek splattershot with better range, a better special, and you don't have to aim. Oh, and it has perfect accuracy. If balance is relative to the splattershot, acting as the baseline weapon, as it's the most basic weapon, as the community seems to suggest, then the clash blaster absolutely annihilates that. The only things vanilla splattershot has over it are a better special(splashdown) and the fact that it kills slightly faster with direct hits. Even then, the damage drop off at maximum range makes a splattershot a five hit kill weapon, making it way slower to kill with. A common argument is that indirect shots lengthen the ttk for the clash blaster, but nobody ever acknowledges that indirect shots from a splattershot lengthen the ttk even more, because it does more damage. That's called missing.
tl;dr- It's a tentatek, but better in almost every way.

Pearl is high as gas, and Marina harshes her mellow.
Although the Splatfest was originally "announced" as Donatello vs Michelangelo, there was a switch-up for extremely obvious reasons. I don't think this switch will work in Marina's favor, though. I was originally betting on Mikey winning, and half-expected them to rig it in Mikey (Marina's) favor. Putting up the turtle nobody has as a favorite for Marina's team might lessen her chances of winning, unless you think popularity will curse Pearl's team (I don't).
Still betting on Raph vs Mikey for the finale, of course.

Guessing it's the explosion. Blaster shots explode on impact, so even though your Brella blocks the shot, you still take splash damage. (The Brella probably IS still protecting you; you'll be able to withstand four or five shots as opposed to the two it would take for a direct hit.)

Shifty Station is never good. There's a reason it's limited time for Splatfests. Most of the maps are either a shitty gimmick, or a bottleneck design where the only way to get to the other side of the map is through mid. Nintendo, stop making those.
The only Shifty Station map that was actually good was the one during Money vs Love that was just a big open battlefield with the single player cannons. That shit was lit, and actually would make for a good multiplayer map.

Splatfests fucking suck.
Why do they suck? Well here's a few reasons:
>The main mode is Turf War, which is the second worst mode in the whole game (The worst being Clam Blitz.)
Why is Turf War the worst?
<No set objective. Just shoot the ground and if you shot more then the enemy team, you win. There's no coordination at all as a result.
<There is no minimap like in Splatoon 1 so you don't have a constant view of the battlefield.
<Turf War has no proper matchmaking. You will be paired against whoever the fuck Nintendo decides to pair you against. So you get low level teammates fighting a team who clearly outskills you and have played the game a lot longer.
This wouldn't be a problem for regular turf war since ti's the casual mode, but Turf War is the only way to play Splatfests since…
>Ranked Mode is not allowed during Splatfests. You can only play Turf War as the Ranked Modes are locked out until the Splatfest is completed.
>The two ways Splatfest Battles are calculated is Solo Queue, and Team Queue. Since it's difficult to get three other dudes to do Splatfests with, the Team Queue score for Splatfests end up snowballing the whole thing, making the less popular choice win.
>The dark map themes while cool, can make it hard to see sometimes.
>Shifty Station. I don't even think I need to explain this one since pretty much all except one Shifty Station layout has been shit. The Shifty Station maps either A. Have a stupid gimmick that makes the map unfun to play on, or B. Is designed very poorly where the only way to get to the other side of the map is from a tight bottleneck at mid. No other paths to move around in, just that one narrow mid.
>The Three Points system for Splatfests. In Splatoon 1 it was just Votes and Battle Points. No Team Battles. So the percentages between the two were calculated, and added to this final three digit score. But now, it's best 2 out of 3 with these calculations, so if a team hardly got any votes, but played more Solo and Team battles, then they'll win. How is this fair?
So how to fix all this? Firstly: Get rid of the Team Battles and replace them with the Ranked Modes. Give people something else to play other then Turf War. Secondly, bring back the old Splatoon 1 system. That resulted in much more fair wins. Thirdly, whoever is designing the Shifty Station maps, fire them and get someone who actually knows how to make a fun map.

I have hardcore social and multiplayer anxiety, and I find it very hard to get up and get myself to play ranked modes. The good news is that the core mode, turf war, is pretty casual, matches only last three minutes, and nobody will remember who you are if you fuck up royally. Also, there's Salmon Run, which is a co-op mode. Thanks to the Mumble, I've gotten over some of my anxieties. Everybody there has been very accommodating. Votes in 1 absolutely did have value. There were at least two Splatfests where the team who won the most battles LOST because the difference in votes was so overwhelming.
The importance of votes ended up being nerfed hard, twice (first they were patched down to being worth half as much as wins, then 1/4 as much.) After that, we started seeing the current pattern, where the more popular team tended to lose.

It's nice to see people discussing tactics and such. I think part of why Clam Blitz gets so much hate is that it's an entirely new mode and people don't fully understand it yet. I remember HATING Rainmaker when it first started and now it's probably my favourite game mode.
Speaking of Rainmaker, something that a lot of players apparently haven't figured out about Clam Blitz is that you CAN super jump with your clams (even with the Power Clam). They all vanish if you jump to spawn, but jumping to other players lets you keep all the clams.
If you happen to have a team that understands this - or better yet, a team that understands this and has one or more players with Squid Beakons - Clam Blitz becomes a lot of fun. Pirahna Pit in particular, if the other team isn't paying attention, you can drop a Beakon DIRECTLY NEXT to the goal (down by the conveyer belt, just ink the wall for easy access). If the other team is too stupid to destroy it, you can jump right over there as soon as you get your power clam and score an easy goal.
If the other team DOES understand this, there's a fun strategy to be had just placing Squid Beakons everywhere and watching the enemy team waste time trying to take them all out while your team gets all the clams.

The main issues with the mode come from the placement of the goals. If they're too far back, like they are on most maps, matches become boring stalemates where one lucky push wins the game. It's like if Rainmaker required a dunk to win. Nintendo should learn from Port Mackerel and Goby Arena, where the goals are relatively close to the center.

I do feel they kind of dropped the ball there. With the initial loading screen in the first game being a bedroom, and the whole setting being about becoming the biggest hipster squid/kid hybrid, I feel that the game would benefit from having a personal headquarters. You could see your gear and weapons stats, and have the shooting range in the backyard or in an alleyway or something.

Primarily because I'm clearly just fucking bad at the game, and just some days I get lucky and get fucking carried. Since some days I've gone up 2 ranks, and others I've lost 3.
Yeah I want to win, but I've got other shit to do, and Rank X is pretty clearly for people who play this game for 40+ hours a week.

For a lot of people, I think so, but I've been up against Rank X people in league who were absolute garbage. I'm only in the A's in most modes, and some of the X's are just fucking terrible. On the flipside, I've been rocked pretty hard by some A's. The smurfs are out in this game finally. I think Rank X weeded out a lot of those especially shit players that hit S+, but it definitely didn't get them all.
