It's the last Splinter Cell with the gameplay of the classics. I enjoyed it enough, I guess. But it lacks the memorable moments that Chaos Theory had. They also recycle the same boring level like four times, the JBA headquarters.
The Shanghai level is fun though. Also the PC port is all kinds of fucked, expect to crash a lot if you pick it up. Something to note is that there are basically two versions of that game, one for the PS2 & co, and another for XBOX 360, PC.

So what exactly is this?
222ee5 No.14611286
"Stolen" is a pretty good game that I only recently found out about, it's more similar to the original three SC games than whatever Ubisoft has been shoveling for a decade and incorporates some mechanics from both MGS and Thief. It was critically panned back then for being a lower quality ripoff of the aforementioned stealth games, but now that we're all yearning for the days of classic SC it will probably be much more appealing to those who give it a try. The overall execution is kinda janky and 100% stealthing the game is borderline impossible and trying to do so will just lead to frustration, but there is plenty of good stealth in here.
The visibility system is exactly the same as SC1-3 but the noise system is not as nuanced. It uses a radar system like MGS1-2 but you have to shoot tracker darts at enemies and cameras to have them show up in the radar. The level design is less linear than SC but most rooms and corridors are claustrophobic and more difficult to sneak in. You can only use non-lethal, and guards wake up after a short while (choking them out puts them asleep for a longer period than knocking them out with CQC). One of the game's highlights is its effective use of lockpicking, hacking, safecracking, etc. minigames. Unlike SC where these minigames end up being just trivial busywork that is divorced from the sneaking, this game often puts these obstacles right in the middle of tight patrol paths.
Other nice qualities in the game is how guards use flashlights and, like in Thief, they see slightly better in the dark when they're alerted. They also sometimes have some funny dialogue when they bump into each other. The game also uses a cool sonar-based system for seeing behind doors. It has a ranking/scoring system like MGS or CT and it has a pretty good pickpocket mechanic like Thief except more challenging (it works like the reload system in Gears of War and the bar expands as you get closer to the enemy). The CQC system it uses is pretty basic, but executing combos requires timing. It has some platforming in some places kinda like SC1 but it's more nuanced and reminded me of the 7th gen Tomb Raider games.
Unfortunately the game also has huge flaws. The characters, writing and story are somewhere between forgettable and cringeworthy. Between the abundance of health packs the game throws at you and how enemies take time to kill you, it's pretty tempting to just let alarms sound and let bullets fly while running past everything if you just want to get through the game and don't care about succeeding in stealth. You can only save and load checkpoints so it can be frustrating to try to achieve perfect stealth especially given the very tight level design and patrol paths. Also, the game has a mechanic that relies on controller vibration but I haven't figured out if it even works on PC, I just gave up and let alarms get triggered whenever it's involved.
Overall, I would say the game is the closest thing to classic SC and even though it falls short in many areas, it's actually superior at creating tense and "close call" moments. Sneaking is much more challenging, but it may be too frustrating at certain points. I would only recommend this game to people who don't mind not being able to 100% games. It has plenty of exciting situations but also ones that don't seem to work out where you just got to give up and take that alarm.
I downloaded the game from The Iso Zone. Works fine on Windows 8.1 but it's also a DirectX 8 game which can be an issue for certain set ups.
Some stuff the game doesn't tell you:
- Press backspace to exit the inventory menu
- You have to hold E to choke guards
- You can run a short distance at max speed without making noise, allowing for silent horizontal jumps
- The save system is based on checkpoints but the game doesn't autosave. Remember to save manually.

WD still makes me mad. Instead of an open world vigilante game where you use the Orwellian surveillance system against the criminal and the corrupt you play the role of some petty thug that's butthurt his criminal behavior got a member of his family killed.
And the gameplay is fucking garbage on top of that as well. The driving is clunky, the parkour is shit, you can basically rampage around the city and kill people by the thousand without any real narrative consequences and instead of making you feel righteous anger at the criminals and what they're doing it all just feels dull and lifeless like any other Ubisoft game.
Playing their garbage is the vidya equivalent of eating cardboard.

Interesting for the first hour or so but then got boring FAST. It has a very contractor tacti-cool feel to it since you can choose and customize your gear and weapons but it was missing a lot for an "open world" sort of game. I can list some of the thing since I played through it completely
>bases taken over are not really bases but shitty shacks
>militia that you support does not actively fight the cartels(or army)on their own.
>no cartel atrocities that you can actively stop or not
>clandestine operators not acting like clandestine operators and trying to remain unnoticed (no notoriety system that punishes rash decision by having little to no US government support or vice versa)
>no actual militia HQ that you can customize and build up from nothing
>no assaults on said HQ by a coalition of cartel and south american army's
>seemingly deep state connections that are never fully explored
>only hunt cartel and army officers but little to no hunting of government officials (both South American and US) who are involved in corruption.
>no actual solo missions that do not involve your team.
>AA batteries that are eliminated re-spawn immediately if you leave FOV/section of map
>cannot outfit militia and/or train them
>"good guy" gets greedy and turns on you 4noraisan
>End game is anti-climatic and does not culminate into a huge revolution by the people against their current regime and the cartels behind them
