When will the final build be done /v/? I just want to see an ecosystem evolve in front of my eyes without it making my CPU scream in pain.

c2b332 No.13986540

Just play SimLife.

Oh hey, wasn't this done in XNA? I remember it a few years back, but only with the grubs.

Another fun game is Biogenesis (?), where you make simple rule-based organisms in a petri dish, basically

Its sad that the average gamer is a retard because I would love a decently budgeted biology game.

It wouldn't even be that hard with modern tech.

On top of this. Why the fuck isn't there a national park tycoon game that simulates an ecosystem? I want that more than anything.

There is this. I don't know if it's good though.

the part that pains me is that I attempted to do something like this, or atleast use it as inspiration, I really dig games where you can experiment and come up with different results, that could happen in any game to be honest, like for example the cooking mechanic in arx fatalis, a game that mostly consists on fighting but every once in awhile you can't help but to dick around in some random room you find, you can turn the oven on or lit something on fire and drag a piece of unbaked bread on a place that you think has fire and it does it's thing, wait for too long and it'll burn, the game never tells you that you can do this but its there, you can even cook things you couldn't expect to cook like a helmet or something, its fucking stupid but it exists, no matter how useless it is the little details are there and it makes the experience all the better, so I was working on this game project where the player starts on this huge empty xen-like floating island in some strange alien dimension, you could expand your xen island by somehow manipulating the land to the point of having "mass" in that case it could be anything, plant, animal, feces, etc, I would later have a scene where invasive alien vines would sprout from below the floating island due to being lured by high temperatures coming from the island's core, a type of genetic you can play with that tells the vine/creature how to behave, but it would later die and get hardened as the plants needed to be surrounded by a special gas that kept their sexual organs productive, the gas had it's own alien property like the increase of testosterone and other weird shit I was experimenting with, the idea I had was that the floating world was there for players to sculpt in an evolutionary perspective, so I made concepts like what would happen if the player fucked around for so long that some of the fungus looked meaty and started reproducing flesh/skin thus engulfing the entire island with weird alien flesh, where you can click anywhere to spawn pimples as if it was it's own flora which can serve as nutrients for other weird fucked up creatures, the whole island could also be this huge fucking venus trap, I have tons of other shit written down, sketches, briefing and so on.

Because we don't have programmers like we used to.

Wasn't there some star wars game that let you build an ecosystem? All I remember is you had to build it on naboo's moon. And it had rancors.

Mutating algorithms and population spread/migration are upper end beginner projects in C++, very simple but take a week or something to write tops. Then comes the problem of implementing GUI which is another week or two tops. The hardest and longest part will be you trying to figure out how to generate assets for your game so that you have enough templates or complex enough models to actually show the reason you want to play the game in the first place. It's not going to be easy making variables for a graphical program to work with remotely in feedback loop. You also need artists. That's the part where budget and programming problems come in.

Yeah but can be said about every game. Why no fucking nature games?

fb99e4 No.14009294

I just want a game I cant genocide a monster that was a pain in the ass to deal with early in the game.
