>Though seriously, can't people just stop buying lootboxes? is the human race so stupid it can't stop itself from buying a game cause Sterr Werzz?
That's not how human psychology works. You can resist for a certain amount of time, but as long as the option is shoved down your throat, it's going to be progressively more difficult to do so. Go ahead, try it. Take something you know you'll love (a candy bar, a cigarette, porn, etc) and place it next to you on your desk. You might at first ignore it, but eventually your lizard brain is going to override you will to resist, and you're going to have to do something about it (either give in and enjoy it or you'll have to completely get rid of it). That's fine for a physical object, but what do you do if you can't get rid of the constant reminder that items in the cash shop are now 50% off for a limited time? You'll either give in a fork over some cash, or you'll drop the game entirely. If you're smart, you'll do the latter, but there are plenty of people who look at such a small investment and think, "fuck it, I have over 200 hours in this game, a one time microtransaction couldn't hurt" which then can start a precedent.
