I purchased 62 skins in LoL over 2 year period before I stopped playing 2-3 years ago. I purchased about 200 packs in Duelyst before I stopped. Like I said if I enjoy a game I have no problem dropping $$$

I've bought micro transactions before, though the most I ever spent was somewhere between 100-150 dollars in the gem store for GW2 sometime a few months into its lifespan from release. Also about 60 dollars on Planetside 2 and something around 40 dollars split between TF2 cosmetics and Dota 2 cosmetics. I also used to have a pretty intense urge to own all the DLC for any game that I owned due to a sense of having all the content, regardless of how frivolous and low quality it might be.

I'm really glad I broke away from all of this behavior a while ago now. I can't really play any game that contains any trace of this sort of payment model because now it just makes me angry that some sort of content, no matter how irrelevant, is locked behind a secondary paywall. F2P with a cashshop is the worst business model ever. I can't imagine the position I would be in a few years ago with way more access to disposable income and a bit less self control if I was tempted by those systems. I found out Demon's was better, and that's AFTER I finished Dark. Levels were much more fleshed out, better enemies, better hub, better world-building. Felt much more of a gritty adventure than Dark ever did.

I may have bought an item or two in order to help make my character look like my waifu in a couple games, but otherwise I avoid spending any money.

I don't like to admit it but I've thrown down a few 100's on games. Most of the time it's spent on getting gifts for my friends who play the game. Stuff like Birthday and Christmas presents. I try to only spend £10 a go every few months or so but that adds up very quickly.

I would never think of spending more than that on a game but I've known people who'll happily drop a few k's into a game to make sure they have the best gear in MMOs at the start.

I've bought some MTX for Path of Exile over the course of the game's existence. Probably spent a ~$300 on it since 2012 during closed beta to current year. Have thousands of hours logged in game though, so it felt appropriate for a game that is otherwise free to play.

After doing the calculations, one of the lowest tier, shittiest cosmetic would come out as 35€. Those 10€ were well spent since they taught me a valuable lesson.

I bought 2 or 3 month WoW subs trice before quitting back in the vanilla days. Took me awhile to realize it's not my type of a game. You owe neither the game nor the company that runs it a single fucking dime. It is not a FREE game. You are investing time in it. Again, you do not owe them anything and are infact part of their business model. You're essentially working for them so consider it an equal trade. It was because of a few things.

1. I actually fucking hated League of Legends but it was the only game my friends and I would play together. I didn't want to spend any money on that piece of shit game and I didn't want them to spend any money on it, either.

2. I only played maybe five or six of the characters I owned, but I owned almost every character in the game. With the way mystery gifts worked, I was basically constantly getting skins for characters I never played, never wanted to play, sucked at playing with, and then they'd make fun of me like "Hey you just got a skin for that other character, why don't you play as them?"

3. I honestly preferred the default skins for 90% of the characters but I can't bring myself to use the default skin if I own a different skin for the character.

Never shilled hundreds on any game, but most I've spent has been on Warframe. I dislike sitting around in trade chat trying to get plat for weapon slots or catalysts so every now and again I buy some platinum, usually when there's a deal on

I only ever bought a single operator, Hibana, because I was new, wanted someone different from the base line-up and her gadget seemed incredibly useful. In hindsight, I honestly don't know why someone would pay for operators though, after getting Hibana I started amassing renown so quickly that by the time Operation Health hit I was actually suffering from a drought of content (skins and hats don't count, that shit isn't content it's a renown sink).

As a 100% new player, the only 25k operators you strictly"need" are Mira, Hibana and Valk. Everyone else ranks somewhere between "situationally useful" and "trash".

I recently bought Ghost Recon: Wildlands Gold Edition for $79.95AU.

I enjoy playing with my mates, but the fact I spent more than $25AU on a game makes me feel like killing myself, let alone the fact it's a Ubishit game.

In saying that, it's surprisingly good, which was a shock. It's just a collect, clear and repeat kind of game which can keep you amused if you're blatantly autistic like we are.

I dropped maybe 40-50$ in Warframe over four years of playing. I also did have a running EVE Online sub for almost two years.

Whale is not a new phrase, and has been used quite a while over the last few years.

The majority of the income from micro transactions come from a small portion of the users, often spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on whatever stupid shit is being sold. Those are whales.

The reason you don't see the phrase often used here is because outside of a few MMO's, /v/ doesn't play games that rely on whales for success. In fact, many people here will flat out refuse to play a game if it actually targets whales. Until the recent lootbox popularity, only mobile games and F2P MMO's targeted whales.
