How many anons here have commissioned artists to have their ideas drawn?

I've done it a few times and the process has normally gone without much of a hitch. However, I'm sure that's not usually the case. Any horror stories on your end? Any advice that you think everyone should follow before ordering a commission?

Also, what's the most you've ever spent on a commission? My record is 50$, but then again I'm kind of a cheap bastard.

Never been too bothered by commissioners, but there was this one time.

>simple tickle pic commission

>he keeps asking me to make the feet bigger

>like three or four times

>fuckit.png

>lasso tool the feet

>resize them to be like the same size of the characters

>it's exactly what he wanted

I gotchu OP

>Be me

>2007

>Furfag who got into the fandom way too early and managed to keep it a secret because boomer mum doesnt know how to computer

>Saw all the classic artists come and go, SassySnake, Firefox, etc.

>Have a fetish for really niche character

>Finally, see that niche character drawn by two artists

>One is by this pervert…we'll call him Matt. Matt spams brain porn and pedo shit along with this niche character

>Too young to understand whats going on

>Get virtually molested

>The other guy is this chill dude…we'll call him Isaac

>Isaac seems to be kinda friendly. Being new to this community and a kid, it was welcoming to see a bunch of friendly people who aren't too discouraging, there was autism in the community but nowhere near as much as there'd be in later years.

>Make it a vow to one day commission Isaac and have a piece of his for my own

>Years pass….2017 now

>Now a security guard working for glorious minimum wage for nights on end in shitty neighborhood

>Contact Isaac, confess he's my favorite artist, tell him my ideas. Basically spill my guts because I'm a socially awkward twat when it comes to people I admire.

>Get note back

>Muhheart.png

>Tells me the prices for my ideas.

>Pick the most expensive one…because fuck it.

>Work part time, dealing with homeless drug addicts, angry cholos and retarded night staff in shitty car that hasnt been painted since 1987

>Fuck it

>Dont care

>This isn't porn anymore…this is personal pride. Like a republican getting his first gun.

>Finally save up enough money. A whole fucking 300 bucks.

>I'vedoneit.pdf

>Contact Isaac, pay him Wait all giddy and excited.

>Says he has a few people in front of me, like most artists.

>Tell him "Eh, dont worry about it, take your time with my pic"

>….if only I knew what unholy regret those words would leave me with.

>I've gotten a commission from Isaac before, took a week or two, but everything was cool, he got it done.

>Isaac starts operating on streams for a regular basis

>Join….he's okay. Pretty talkative, same with DMs.

>Suddenly…everything stopped.

>I try to reach out. I try to be polite, friendly…show that I'm not trying to rush anything.

>Was I too much?….Probably.

>Motherfucker starts straight up being rude to me for whatever reason….ignoring me when I join stream chat as his streams turn from a regular basis to yearly

>What little messages he sends me are rude fuck comments, he's finished those other commissions months ago. I checked his roster.

>Seasons pass…

>Motherfucker releases YCHs and other commissions

>Figure "okay…maybe he just needs money…he'll do what's right at the end of the day…right?"

>He completes every YCH and gets some expensive commissions on the side throughout the coming months

>Some of these artists he's commissioned charge 300 just for 1 pic and no background

>3. Fucking. Years.

>Lost job as security guard. Corona virus BTFO'd that

>Isaac's still shitting out YCHs and getting his expensive ass art of the same character getting tickled.

>Just think…"Maybe he's on it" "Maybe he's just busy" Keep hoping…and hoping…lying to myself.

>Motherfucker posts sketches of my art personally. No words or anything. Purposely trying to discourage me from messaging him.

>At this point, I abandon hope.

>Finally, I note the fucker. He's long since muted my DMs and what little messages he's sent me is just him being nasty, blaming depression, blaming everything but himself, even fucking blamed Trump once for the delay (he doesn't live in the US for context) Even straight up saying he doesnt care if he sounds like a jerk, he doesnt want to interact with anyone in the community because we're all trash

>Keep in mind, I'm not the type of commissioner who will bug you nonstop and pull the "is it finished yet?" act with you. I try to be reasonable. I understand we all have shit going on.

>Note him saying that it's been three years and if he's not going to go through with it, then we need to work something out.

>Virtually no communication on his end. For 3. Fucking. Years. Never mind me trying to befriend him, as an artist that's beyond unprofessional.

>Finally….the day comes.

>He leaves a DM saying "It" "is" "being" "done" all in short posts….guess he had a guilty conscious.

>A day later, he posts it. Doesn't even fucking send me the Jpegs or files via DM so I can download and properly view them…you know, that courtesy that's almost universal between professional artists.

>Pretty sure he blocked me for whatever reason. At most I'd message him twice a month just trying to be social and welcoming while being ignored.

Sorry for the cringe post, but you asked and I shared.

Never meet your heroes, kids…you'll just be disappointed.

Your tale makes me think of the Odyssey if Penelope had turned into a lesbian at the end and dumped Odysseus. Sure, he got home after immense suffering and troubles, but not to what we was expecting.

I'm so sorry that happened to you, anon. I always ask artists to know when they expect payment, and it's usually after they've offered me something to look at, anything. You know, so that the customer doesn't get the impression that he might get robbed.

I'm a little afraid of that happening to the artist I have hired, but I'm just expect a long wait. Not as long as yours, though; the dude has given me "a few months" as a measure of time. So, I'll just get back to living until one day my inbox reminds me that I did in fact commission something once.

I've had no issues with any of the people I have commissioned but I'm also fairly picky on who I want work from. I usually avoid the super popular artists because even if I got a slot they would probably put me behind a wall of patreon and side work before they got to me.

Artists with agreeable prices that pump out commissions are my go to's and while I don't prefer to pay before any work gets done I know other artists have been fucked over before.

This piece that was made on deviantart by randomuseragain2016 was great as a reference.

I've mostly had good experiences. The worst would just be artists who after receiving my detailed order with a bunch of reference photos politely (or not so politely) declined. I'd recommend doing research on the artist and provide as much detail as possible.

Make sure their style and ability can accommodate the level of detail you're seeking & check out previous commissions they've done for quality and customer comments. Get your stuff all lined up ahead of time and provide reference photos for any specifics such as positions, outfits, facial expressions, etc. Absolutely request the work in progress sketches so that you can catch any miscommunication before the image is finalized, which should be minimal to none if you provided a wealth of descriptions and reference photos.

The most I spent on a commission was $120, which was two full characters in a very complex & partially nude scenario, full color, and a detailed background and detailed outfits.

I'd love to recommend some artists, but unfortunately every one of the artists I've commissioned in the past for tickle art have ghosted or are no longer taking commissions. But just in case they ever open again, I had great experiences with mystic-touch, kd8lmno/ArthurQF, BlueUsako (attached), arki316, and illionoire.

I can't say I've had any bad experiences with commissioning pieces. The only time I've had "issues" commissioning something was from Bad-Pierrot. Even then, it was only just a long wait and he's, as far as I can tell, popular in the community. So I can't be too upset. Really, my only issues have ever been wait times. I will say though, I have shelled out 300 bucks for commissions from CollaredKid. But to me, it's worth it. So take from that what you will. Although, I guess if I could complain, I guess I wish he'd draw me not as large. A lot of my commissions are self insert, and he tends to draw me in a larger fashion. Which isn't even on him. I could just say something. But anyways.

I'd say 2 weeks to 1 month depending on your piece. Some artists use trello so you can track progress, which personally I wish more artists would use. But my general rule of thumb is 2 weeks to 1 month. Maybe more if it's a big piece.

A few years back on DA, he went on a weird rant about how foot fetishests are immoral because they take candid photos of peoples feet while they're asleep an stuff, compared to his guilt-free fictional paw fetish.

He seemed completely convinced this was just a part of foot fetishism in general, and not something that a small handful of creeps do.

As if there are no paw fetishist weirdos out there getting toxoplasmosis sucking on their cats feet.

Made a commission almost two weeks ago

Was told a couple of days ago there was another person's art piece ahead of mine

They make a post tonight about accepting YCHs

So now I have to wait until that other person's piece is done(if there ever was one to begin with) and all these people with the YCHs who no doubt are ahead of me…it's starting to seem like my money is being stolen and my commission was never going to be done in the first place.(end of rant)

Who - furry.bat

What - a commission, it was on their story saying name your price and I'll draw anything. Even though she said anything I still wussed out on asking for a tickle pic instead just wanted her to draw a gharial for me.

When - the commission was placed the 3rd of this month

Where - Instagram, I understand I'm not the only one(since there was someone ahead of me) and she has a life and stuff to do but I feel like if she has time to be posting, interacting with followers, and other stuff then the commission should of been done by now.

Why - I trusted since the first time I asked her to draw something for me there was no hassle or worry. Albeit a ych but still it went well.

Question for any anon that wants to answer. What's the maximum amount you've ever spent on a commission? And the least?

I once got an incredible commission for 25 euros. I admit that I was taking advantage of an artist with a very negative view of himself.

I asked for three characters (only one of them was being tickled, though) in one picture. Instead, he said it felt more natural to make a picture for each character, and each picture contained several angles and sexual practices being performed on them. I couldn't believe that he still wanted just 25€ for the whole thing. But he did, and I got that extraordinary haul dirt cheap.

Nowadays he's smarter and asks for a lot more, but boy am I glad I commissioned him when I did.

My most expensive commission will cost me around 50 dollars. I'm still queuing for my turn, and money hasn't changed hands. I don't expect to the at the top of the line for a few months still, so I can only hope that I feel as enthusiastic about it by the time my turn comes.
