I just have a bind to toggle them on/off. When I feel like actually playing the game, then I turn them off. Otherwise, they're on for the aesthetic.

There is literally no disadvantage to having auto reload on.
If you really cannot remember what weapon you have equipped, look at the bottom corners of your HUD. The ammo should be a giveaway to which weapon you have out, or the viewmodel of your character on the left will tell you.

Use ´em. Makes it so when you scroll up it switches to that weapon only, it does not "go over" and switch to another weapon like with normal mousewheel scrolling.
If you the got extra button(s) on your mouse you can do the weapon switching just with your mouse, now you don´t have to fiddle around with number keys to switch weapons meaning you can focus just on movement with your left hand.
