Just advocating for my setup is all. Played with all the major VM products, vmware, xen, hyperv... Love Proxmox and LXC is great for home setups with overhead limitations if you want to run whatever services your heart desires! Believe it or not but the seed box containers uses around 37 to 102 mb of memory and runs around 2-3% of my CPU under normal load. Stable as a rock also. This beats the hell out of LVM resource usage but you still have that options if you need it. Combine that with zfs raid options with SSD caching (Turn that "Swappiness" down to one 1 folks or you will kill a cheap ssd quick) give awesome flexibility. Get yourself a 4port intel nic off amazon for cheap and setup LACP for all the bandwith out of the host you will ever need....
So all posturing aside, Information wants to be free so I am sharing this setup with you, it takes some time to get it configured but i know anon is up to the task.
Oh and turnkey linux containers if you want a quick start are provided from per-configured repositories once you get your new home server up.
I could go on and on but try it for yourself and see what i mean.

Rinse and repeat. Meanwhile I've gotten the same content with no restrictions from elsewhere. The only way I've been able to maintain a proper ratio on private trackers without seeding 24/7 is to get the content elsewhere and use that copy to seed. That or I release rare stuff from my massive collection I've built up over 20+ years of being into warez, fansubs, and ripping/cracking games. I don't understand how people that don't release content ever maintain a good ratio without cheating.
Of course every private tracker is willing to give you a great ratio if you (((donate))). Don't give me that line about leechers being the reason private trackers exist. Private trackers exist so the administrator of them can stroke his e-penis, farm donations, and everyone can pretend they're hiding from the copyright police.
Usenet, IRC, FTP servers, and topsites were around before trackers/torrents and they'll be around until the end of time. They'll always provide content quicker and faster than torrents because that's where the warez groups release the content first. Any warez group that releases on trackers is some fly by night operation that doesn't follow the scene rules or most likely doesn't understand why those rules are important and enforced. They don't upload to the usual haunts because they know their release would get instantly nuked.

They are not insane, but they aren't very reasonable either because of their competitive nature and because they incentivize having much more combined upload bandwidth than what is requested (which is a waste).
It would be better to prioritize storage redundancy by giving credit to everyone seeding a file while it's being requested, and giving out bonus credits to people seeding files with low seed counts.

I think you're largely correct, although I haven't ever been on a private tracker. I mainly download lossless music and books, and it's only occasional when I can't find it from some source, typically Rutracker or Soulseek for music or Genlib for books.
While I can't say whether a private tracker would afford me better luck in finding, say, somewhat obscure works of Japanese fusion from the 70s/80s, I have been able to find at least 90% of everything I've searched for, although I've sometimes had to compromise in quality with music.

Private trackers make me want to tear my eyes out every time I look up what it takes to get in. Last year it was you have to take a what.cd exam on audio files and and wait months on end just to get into AB/PTP. Now it's the same thing but with redacted.

The problem is I don't even like these trackers. I'm downloading porn and other shit I'll never use to get3 or 4 'ratio proofs' to hop to other sites. My end goal is just to get onto AnimeBytes in the hopes that they'll have what I'm really looking for, which they likely won't.
The only site I enjoyed of the four is BakaBT, but this experience has soured me to private trackers in general. BakaBT has a nice "points" system where your upload speed doesn't limit you from downloading a decent amount, but I can't use bonus points for ratio proofs, and over the years I've amounted so much download that I'll never make up for.

Maybe to a degree, but to what extent is impossible to gauge, as obviously, if you don't have an account, then you can't browse the tracker. So someone like me who doesn't want to put up with their shit can't even make a proper value judgement on whether or not it's worth the trouble. If they are actually gate-keeping a significant amount of content, that makes their existence far worse. I just want the free-flow of content and less autism. The web is neutered enough as is.

Is uploading torrents the only way to build ratio on REDACTED?
The download system here is fucked. Because there's no freeleech 90% of people have shit ratio, so no one downloads. Because of that there are only 4 people constantly autosnatching some torrents and the other torrents get no downloads at all and die out. I don't even know the autosnatching protocol, it seems like 75% of lossless torrents get 0 downloads and 1/4 gets 3 or 4 downloads. I get that this increases the rare albums and shit that wouldn't get uploaded otherwise on the tracker but when at least 1 in 4 albums has no seeds it's just retarded system that accomplishes nothing.
Also they should just have lossless torrents trump lossy. No one downloads lossy here. It's a fucking joke.
