How do you name your files? How do you do spaces? Do you capitalize letters? What's the best naming conventions for easy searchability and readability, and that is compatible in both *nix and windows systems? Thank you.

escaping spaces isn't really that big a deal but avoid it nonetheless.

Damn. This is a very serious case of UNIX brain damage. Looks terminal to me.

I have to avoid use ':' in my filenames because windows filesystems do not suport it.
I tried to unzip a zip having a file with ':' in the name in my college's computer running win7 and it refused to unzip.

What do you suggest then? Using windows? That's not braindamage, nigger, it's natural to deal with UNIX if you're using UNIX.
Now go ahead and tell us about your emacs environment so we can laugh at you.

A) this is one file name this is another file name this is a third file name
B) this_is_one_file_name this_is_another_file_name this_is_a_third_file_name
If you think the three file names in example A) is easier to parse with code, or more easily legible to a human than example B) - you have no self-reflection to realize your own "braindamage"

underlines for spaces make perfect sense if you mostly do your file managment in text enviroments. Spaces and long filenames with special unicode symbols is something for GUI brainlets.
There's a utility called "detox" out there that can do mass-renaming and fixing of such retarded filenames. It's pretty nice.

Make sure all files contain both ', ", a couple \\s and spaces. Or for windows just name it con or some of the other forbidden names.
