/tan/ - Board-tans

/fur/, whether by choice or because the community can't make up their mind, does not have a single board-tan to represent them. They have a group, some of whom came over from /furry/. But the closest one can probably come to a "main" tan would be Bill Katt.

Bill Katt is an anthropomorphised cat who derives his name from /fur/s administrator Bell (and has also been accused of being his fursona). He has a lithe bodytype and appears feminine in his movements. Most of Bill's fur is the Yotsuba B cool grey-blue shade, though he has splashes of white on his chest and snout, his front paws, and his lower legs going down to his lower paws (giving the impression of thigh highs). The tip of his tail and his ears also a darker shade of blue. Final bits of colour include a pink nose and green eyes.

Bill wears clothes. He has an open white lab coat with black outline and straps, a tool belt around his waist, goggles with a green band around them to reference the 8chan logo, and a thin black necklace with a bell attached around his neck. Sometimes he's also seen with a bandage around his tail as a result of accidents in the workplace.

A far as personality goes, Bill is chill. He is confident, self-assured, and nonchalant. He's openly bisexual, yet seems to take more pleasure in teasing people than in actually chasing conquest. There's also a nerdy side to him: somewhat curious for a tan of a furry board, Bill Katt is a successful robot engineer who's interested in developing and building his own robot waifus. Devolving into somewhat of a perverted mad scientist, his work can keep him busy for a long time, which is why he's sometimes seen with tired eyes. His excitement can also blindside him and result in accidents, which is why he occasionally wears the aforementioned bandages on his tail.

Kemo-chan is based on the board's kemothera.py bot, a script designed to prevent spamming on the board and clean it up afterwards if it does happen. She is presented as a living sapient airplane, built by Bill Katt. Very little about her design is finalised, other than her head being rougly shaped like the cockpit of a fuselage, and equipped with a stabiliser fin on top. It's unknown what type of airplane she is exactly, but her duties place her along the line of stealth bombers.

Generally, she's a nice person, and well-liked for the service she provides. She takes her job seriously and executes it with extreme prejudice, although she is not above giving in to voyeuristic tendencies to spy on people as she flies over.

Although /fur/ claims to be the older board, /furry/ became more popular in the wake of the halfchan Exodus in 2014. Their board-tan was N8, who has since been more or less adopted by /fur/, following a spambot attack that effectively killed the board.

N8 is a creature of undetermined origin, who seems to comprise elements of raccoons, foxes and red pandas depending on the artist. His fur is mostly red, but his chest and belly areas are white. All his paws and the tips of his ears are also a darker shade of red, and there are rings around his tail in this same shade (the number of rings can differ between artworks, but generally seems to be 2). On his face N8 has a facial marking in this darker red shade as well, around his eyes in the shape of a domino mask, a reference to the 8chan logo (possibly the older red one).

N8 is everything people hate about furries. He's gone off the deep end and is an openly proud degenerate. He's also gay and a sexual bully, who enjoys talking or manipulating people into doing things they don't want to do in the bedroom. His most common victim is Bushy, but whether or not there are deeper motivations from N8's side is a matter of debate.

Originally, N8 was supposed to be a furry equivalent of Anon, able to take any form and position as required by circumstances. Later on he got locked into his "little boy" form, and some versions got made into their own characters. F8 (also called F8 Str8 by full name) is an adult female version of N8 who later got reworked as his mother. She's said to be the good virtuous one as an antithesis to N8, a single mother trying to raise her children as best she can after her unknown ex knocked her up and walked out on the family. There's also K8, N8's little sister, who looks just like N8 except for a ribbon in her hair and longer eyelashes. No characterisation is set for her.

Once upon a time, a wannabe troll came to /furry/ and tried to stir up drama using drawings of his OC fursona, Bushy.

/furry/ responded by drawing his fursona getting raped by a horse.

Laughs were had at his expense and the troll slunk off, but the experience somehow endeared the board to his fursona enough that he got adopted.

Bushy is an anthropomorphic arctic fox. Excepting his black paws and ears, his fur is completely white. He wears a long blue and white striped scarf around his neck as his only clothing. He seems to suffer from a superiority complex, being cocky until someone calls his bluff, which quickly turns him into an insecure wreck. He's also gay but very deep in denial. N8 loves to goad him into homosexual acts which Bushy will swear up and down do not interest him even as he goes along with them. As such, his entire existence is pretty much a "no homo" joke.
