The Q are like an entire race of that autistic kid who spent so long playing by himself with Lego that he never learned how to interact and coexist with other children. They're autists with infinite cosmic power.

This. Q is Anon. He's intelligent, knowledgeable, a social reject, and so catastrophically bored that he can only find fulfilment and meaning in trolling the shit out of the retards the universe puts before him. If the Q continuum had imageboards you just know he would be shitposter prime.

actually discord only snaps his fingers when using magic because his voice actor bases him on Q. literally he is the next charlie sheen, because his every performance now is the same persona, in fact discord, while being a good guy still randomly appears and does what seems like a dick move thing as a way of teaching a greater thing to others, same as q always did.

all that said, both characters are awesome for this.

actually the race would stay to themselves. Q himself would interact with "lesser beings" and it ultimately if you look hard enough at his actions and end result, was done to help those beings gain wisdom from experiencing things

b10396 (1) No.10881>>10890

Most of the Q species didn't care about lower life forms, didn't interact with them. So this thread is full of answers that make no sense.

Real reason is that Q himself is the drooling retard of the Q race, he's the village idiot who uses a magnifying glass to burn ants while most of the other villagers walk waaaaay around him so the weird won't rub off on them.

>Most of the Q species didn't care about lower life forms, didn't interact with them.

I’m not sure that’s true. Q Roger Dorn talked about how he was annoyed he always had to apologize for him.

4bf4af (1) No.10907>>10908

>>10890

This, actually. Most of the Q fuck around and try everything. Even being bored and dismissive of a sentient life seems to just be another lark for them, kind of like when they went to war and then decided to try procreating. They claim to be impossibly old, but they exist outside of time and space anyways. Even ascribing human emotions to them seems inaccurate.

b7b63f (1) No.10908>>10918 >>16887

>>10907

The Q as bored beings with ennui is a retarded Voyager thing. Classic Trek would have never gone that direction.

All Good Things had the implication the Q were shepherding mankind from a limited worldview to an evolved higher state, and the trial would continue. Then Voyager came out and gee, the Q are a bunch of bored gods after all and you Federation types can teach us so much.

f1e63b (1) No.10918>>10920 >>14923

>>10908

I'm sure Q actually describes the continuum as such in TNG, and there is also the episode when they temporarily turn him into a human as punishment for going against there laws. Its kinda weird because the Q are omnipotent but at the same time a kind of collective, Q wanted out of the hivemind and to break free from their boring ways - or so he says. Thats how in VOY he ends up basically creating a war in the continuum, but yeah VOY is shit.

Q isn't just trolling Picard, he's testing him, and Picard learns a lot from him, he just despises him because he knows more than him. Picard is rational, logical, acts within reason and dignity. Q is the opposite of that, he's all chaos with no reason, he laughs at such lowly human concepts and shows Picard truly how little he knows and how powerless he is in the grand scheme of things. I really like the last episode when Picard is teleporting through time to all the different parts of his life thinking he is going insane. But in the end it is Q showing him just how fragile the so called laws of physics or even reality are, and that the final frontier is not space, but consciousness itself, and Picard manages to realise it through his collected experiences and ascends to a new level of being for a split second before being back there on the bridge and engage we're away again.

:') tbh

9bbc85 (1) No.10920>>10941 >>14920

>>10918

This. But also, I wouldn't be surprised if Picard blames Q on some level for his entire experience with the Borg. SFDebris (yes, I know) posits that the encounter happened at all because of Picard's self-righteous ranting back in S1. So much for rapid progress.

787818 (1) No.10941>>10943

>>10920

There were two camps with Q among the writers on TNG. One camp wanted Q to be a trickster villain, and the other wanted Q to be a kind of irreverent spirit guide.

The episode where Q shows Picard his life is clearly the latter, where the episode where Q becomes mortal is the former. What happened when Q introduced the Enterprise to the borg is an open question. The popular opinion is that Q did it to get Humanity ready for a very pressing threat (I think this is the case), but the episode itself makes it sound like Q made it worse and accelerated the Borg encountering the Federation, all just to prove a point to Picard.

>The popular opinion is that Q did it to get Humanity ready for a very pressing threat (I think this is the case)

While it struggles to present itself like that, it should be noted that the Episode "Neutral Zone" has evidence of the Borg which they mention in said episode.

If I were Q I'd troll space captains too

>>10920

>Picard's self-righteous ranting

Yeah if I were Q I would have shoved a borg probe up his ass too. Everybody was way too arrogant with their "we've in utopia now and have evolved beyond violence" speeches. You can't tempt fate like that, especially when Q can influence it

The Q are higher level beings able to comprehend infinity and multidimensional reality. Their motivations should be inscrutable to us. They went from being the Judges of Humanity to being a Planet of Hats.

Yes.

Voyager was a shit show. It ruined the Q and the Borg. The only mildly entertaining thing is the thought of Janeway femdom.

That happened in TNG long before Voyager.

>>16895

>It ruined the Q and the Borg.

Yes, because killing a cyborgified civilization that is hundreds of thousands of years old with the equivalent of a kiddie script written by a toddler(TNG) is totally reasonable.

Every complaint, every single fucking complaint that isn't directly related to how the cast was handled, about Voyager, can ascribed to the TNG.

de7128 (2) No.16952>>16955 >>16960

Anyone notice how only humans seem to have productive results from genetic engineering? Klingons, Romulans etc never play around with it. Maybe Q is attracted to that potential?

de7128 (2) No.16953>>16955

Also Q are very clearly the same species as wormhole aliens from DS9, the wormhole aliens are just juveniles.

They're semi-omnipotent, but the Q are hardly the only (or even the first) semi-omnipotent race out there. Trelane on the other hand, he's almost certainly Q.

Actually, don't we have some explicit proof of the Romulans doing it? I thought they used genetic manipulation to get rid of their Ponn Farr urges and emotional mood swings, but the process also eliminated their telepathic abilities.

Q isn't well written because he is the bad writing. This guy is a "pocket character" that makes frequent (but not often) appearances on the show literally when it is convenient for him to show up. Say in the middle of a season or just before a finale when you really need some filler (same with Troi's bitch-ass mom). Also created to help explain away shit that doesn't make any scientific sense (not even according to star trek science like "statistical mechanics" [like srsly, wtf even is that shit? Is that just the mechanics of statistics or the statistics of mechanics? why would someone study the statistics of mechanics? if you have mechanics based off of chance you're a fucking retard]).

>lol writers why does this 3 timeline shit happen

<i unno man we've done temporal bullshit and warp bubbles half to hell right?

>yeah we can't do that anymore

<well then q did it

>well I don't know man… a lot of people are on the fence about that character

<we want to have an epic ending that won't *immediately* get booed by the basement lords right?

>ok, I see your point, get John de Lancie on the phone
