I'll never understand how they know it's that particular photon.

Yeah… I'm gonna wait until that's been repeated a few times by independent outsiders before I get excited.

What do you expect from Chink Science?

star trek's teleportation technology is bullshit anyway

>teleportation works by dismembering molecules of the subject and reassembly them back together as they were in another location

>the subject gets dematerialized and dies

>what gets materialized at the other end of the teleportation device is just a clone

61f0b6 (7) No.744>>762

>>743

That's the theory, anyway.

>I thought about it, one day

>Federation citizens use transporters to go nearly everywhere

>One of them dies of old age

>Gets to Heaven and finds out that there are thousands of him, sitting around waiting with rueful looks on their faces

>Some are in Hell, because they died during a crisis of faith

>Original one has been waiting for 145 years for the last one to die to finally end the madness

>Line at the Pearly Gates is so backed up, it's nearly at Hell

>Full of many, many Federation citizens, some of them in groups of identical selves because they were heading to a destination that required a few transporter hops, or were members of Starfleet on a rescue mission that needed frequent beam ups with wounded colonists

Considering Warp tech exists, they should really be looking at a way to punch a portal through time and space to walk through, instead.

So…. is their some sort of law against clone armies? Or do they already utilize them as security personnel and just don't talk much about that? I guess that's where kirk is getting all his cannon fodder red shirt goons.

Dunno about armies, but in DS9 Odo mentions to someone that killing your own clone is still murder, so they must deal with them enough to have at least some legal precedent.

The other side to this is that if a valuable crew member dies, you should be able to play back their last healthy transporter scan. You could use this to treat terminal injuries, too. I'd love it if they could overlay an intact scan of my leg to put the bones back together right on a molecular level. Also means that anyone who can hack the transporter system can copy the crew.

>in voyager they can put holographic organs in people

>they're willing to kill tuvix in order to bring back tuvok and neelix

>but they can't just harvest a few organs from clones

they could have single handedly cured the phage if they wanted to, just clone a few klingons

I always thought this, but what if the presence of a soul is what enables the transporter to reassemble a person's molecules correctly?

No wonder McCoy hates transporters so much. I can just hear him rasping "YOU CAN'T PLAY GOD, YOU POINTED EARRED MONSTER!" at Spock.

Actually, the ethical implications are enormous when you start to think about it.

>what if the presence of a soul is what enables the transporter to reassemble a person's molecules correctly?

Yeesh. Imagine the hollow shells that would materialize at the other end.

892306 (2) No.781>>2848

>>762

they should be able to do a lot of things in this regard, really

the transporter basically a big cloning device, only that every time they use it they kill the original subject for some reason

05bde5 (3) No.793>>851

>>766

No, what I mean is, what if the soul is the organizing principle that makes teleportation possible? That is, you couldn't dematerialize a person and rematerialize them with all memories, etc. intact without a subtle body/field/soul there to organize the molecular data.

I dig what you're saying, but such a device would be quickly destroyed lest the Atheists riots in the streets of every major world city.

a soul as it were could be a Extension of consciousness into another dimension brought on by self awareness the possibilities are really endless.

Its also possible that the soul that we so valuably covet that must exist and be a good thing for the afterlife of x religion can only be good. When it could just be a source of nourishment for something beyond our comprehension We could be farmed cattle for something else.

There are way more fucked up possibilities if souls exist then if they do not. Its not like if souls exist then its automaticly the Christian god was the right choice out of all the religions on this fucking planet.

Try some imagination on the terrifying possibilities of what could exist out there instead of something cheap and easy.

Christians aren't the only one who believe in a soul. Life energy by one name or another is common to many religions.

And by that I mean that there are many religions or philosophies that would be on the hot seat, not just Christians.

I've never met an atheist yet who believed in a soul, so, if I may revise my post, they might not go full chimp-out, but they'd definitely be in some sort of distress. I can think of many reactions, including disgust, fear, rage, etc. But to be fair, I think it might upset a lot of believers in other religions, as well. It's one thing to have faith that something exists, but it's another altogether to have it proven.

>Try some imagination on the terrifying possibilities of what could exist out there instead of something cheap and easy.

I find my mind turning to H.P. Lovecraft when I try to imagine it, to be honest.

Beautiful image and nice dubs.

10/10

But I do not have evidence of a soul just that its possible but based upon the knowledge of the universe we have thus far. such a thing is would either need to be given from something else or created from self awareness/consciousness.

The concept of a soul is not alien or wrong but the question is does it exist and what is the foundation of its existence.

Does our existence continue in some sort of electromagnetic form? If thats true then I can surmise that probably something exists which eats that. Evolution is a cold hearted bitch when it comes to making sure all the leftovers get eaten. why would a "soul" be anything special or different from the rest of your existence?

Doesn't your body grow all kinds of new cells and have old ones die all the time?

That was actually part of the plot of an episode of DS9. Some guy built a "cell stimulation" chamber to keep them from getting "bored"

If I remember correctly, it has to do with the nature of quantum mechanics. Scanning something at the quantum level fundamentally changes it.

That's kind of hot, I'm going to have to watch TAS now. Why is it the only one not on Hulu ffs?
