>I"ve not been keeping up with the Star Trek comics scene.
The tl;dr is that IDW is in possession of a metric shit-ton of licenses, and has fallen to the same cancer that has taken over at Marvel. Just a few of their many, many crimes include:
>tranny and gay Transformers, which is pretty impressive for a race that doesn't actually have genitals and reproduces by assembly line
>Matt Tracker of M.A.S.K. is not blonde and blue-eyed, anymore, but is now black, for reasons I can't even begin to imagine. Oh, wait, his writer is black. What a cohencidence.
>There's going to be a Visionaries comic. Pics related for how they're going to look. I don't know how many of you are old enough to remember the original toys and series, but if you aren't as pissed off as I am, you weren't there. Racelifts and gender swaps abound, and Merklynn went from an old man to a young elf. Leoric is now a blonde basketball-american with dreads instead of the action figure from pic 5 that I treasured in my youth.
There are many more violations. They have the rights to Star Trek, Rom, Action Man, G.I. Joe, Ghostbusters, Transformers, Micronauts, M.A.S.K., and some others I can't remember. Expect more CBR alums and Deviant Art lesbians who can't draw or write to be polluting the waters of our childhood yet again.
I've been part of the push back against these fucks since 2014, and, even now, I still can't understand if they really believe in what they're doing or if it's just about getting revenge for not getting asked to prom. So many of them are obviously damaged young women who hate every man who's to handsome to waste time with them. Or they're beta men who hope that social justice will be the tool that gets them laid (spoiler: it won't).

DC's currently got the rights to Thundercats, as far as I know. They've also got He-Man, which would be a great comfort to me if it was anything more than a blip in my childhood's radar. I had some of the toys, but in my neighborhood, the big draws were Transformers and Star Wars, so MotU was more for solo play.
Take heart in this: DC's pozzed, but it's currently much less pozzed than the other companies (fingers crossed). New 52 was such a clusterfuck for them that they've decided to try to cater to the screaming psychos AND the actual comic fans. This tactic will also end in disaster, but once the dust settles, they should have FINALLY learned the lesson that you shouldn't trade comfy, reliable lovers for ones who are demons in the sack but monsters in every other room.

Different anon, but I’ll start.
Roddenberry was a moneygrubbing kike to start. Leonard Nimoy hated him, as did Shatner. Nimoy hated him because he had been offered a chance to make money at appearances and Roddenberry demanded a cut to be let out of work to go to them. Nimoy wasn’t wealthy then (Roddenberry was) and the money was a really big deal. Roddenberry also wanted Nimoy to wear a dumb pin that Roddenberry wanted to sell as merchandise in an episode, and Nimoy refused, feeling it was horrible writing and bad to place a product like that.
Roddenberry also wrote lyrics to the star trek theme (which were never recorded) so he could get half the royalties from the theme song being played. (This one is fairly well known.)
Harlan Ellison hated his guts because Roddenberry intentionally misrepresented the original draft of City on the Edge of Forever, claiming “Harlan had Scotty selling drugs!” to convention audiences. Harlan confronted him and told him to stop saying that, and Roddenberry said he would, then went back to doing the same story at conventions.
Star Trek: Movie Memories by William Shatner details a lot of his craziness, and how good writers shut him out of the process to create Star Treks 2-6. After the flop of the Motion Picture, Roddenberry wanted the next movie to be the Enterprise going back in time to stop the Kennedy Assassination, but deciding they couldn’t because it would alter history. People told him repeatedly it was fucking stupid, and he hated every script that was written. He hated Wrath of Khan.
Most of his anger at the movies being wrestled away from him was projected into TNG, which is why seasons 1 and 2 are so much weaker than the others. Season 3 is when it was wrestled away from him too, and it got much better.
Even on the original show coworkers (I forget the guy’s name) mentioned how much Gene didn’t understand sci fi. His idea for aliens was to have a third hand or extra eye, and everyone would try to tell him how aliens would be radically different and he never wanted to do that because makeup was cheaper.
Roddenberry pitched the show, and while he was a bedwetting liberal he was at least an optimist, and so that optimism was the best contribution he made to the show, and makes him markedly better than modern liberal/kikes like JJ Abrams. But he had rules like “no space pirates” which the writers hated. People considered his ‘no interpersonal conflicts rule’ to be negative, but IMO it was positive. It forced plots to be external to the crew, so to be about sci fi, as opposed to the easy way of making a soap opera in space.

"no interpersonal conflicts"
that's what made star trek such a successful and actual sci-fi show, and not going down into soap opera tier, aka star wars. however, the studios cucked gene because tmp was too much for their pathetic brains to take in (this is also why blade runner failed, despite both being relatively normalfag tier) and went for it with the rest of the films, though i would say the undiscovered country is the least soap opera of the six behind tmp.

Interesting. The more I learn about Roddenberry, the more he sounds like George Lucas
>Roddenberry pitched the show, and while he was a bedwetting liberal he was at least an optimist, and so that optimism was the best contribution he made to the show, and makes him markedly better than modern liberal/kikes like JJ Abrams.
1000% agree. The idea of a positive future for mankind is the main draw for me, and why I find most of the new stuff everything since his death imo to be not quite Star Trek enough. If you watch the original pilot (The one with Pike, which was later made into The Menagerie) the crew feels like a family, maximum comfy, and I'd really like to see what could have been done with it.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The science is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the technobabble will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Spock’s stoic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Zenoian and Epictetusian literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these philosophies, to realise that they’re not just intellectually stimulating- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Star Trek: The Motion Picture truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the meaning in Spock’s existential catchphrase “Live Long and Prosper,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Orthodox Jewish blessings . I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Gene Roddenberry's genius unfolds itself on their cinema screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have an Enterprise tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

It’s tempting, but not accurate. Lucas is an autistic boy who genuinely liked making ships and laser gun stories. Gene was a carnival barker who had an ideology of utopianism attack him late in life.

>Roddenberry also wanted Nimoy to wear a dumb pin that Roddenberry wanted to sell as merchandise in an episode, and Nimoy refused
That pin was the first gen IDIC. Gene also tried a lot of other shady merchandising shit that Shatner and Nimoy put him on blast for. Look into Lincoln Enterprises. One of Gene's best friends went so far to publicly call him a con man, he was so bad.
Speaking of Shatner, by about the middle of the second season Shatner would walk out of the room any time Gene entered it. In fact they had many problems throughout the years. In between the TOS and TMP era, Gene cooked up an idea where Kirk meets God. Shatner wrote a script later with the same sort of idea - Star Trek V obviously - which Gene subsequently tried to decanonize the film because he was asshurt over Shatner "stealing his idea" when nothing of the sort happened. In actuality Shatner mainly wrote the story because he himself was butthurt over 80s televangelists, independently of Gene. Given the film has a questionable reputation, the decanonization worked somewhat. In fact not only did he try to do that, he also tried to sue Shatner over it (but he couldn't since he had zero control over the films).
Then came Season 3, and basically from all accounts Gene had given up on Star Trek around that time; he got another season but he also severely fucked up negotiations with NBC in the process, and they subsequently threatened to put the show on the late night block if he didn't fuck off to the other side of the studio lot and take a reduced role but with the same pay. Not only did he do so, but he really made no further contributions to the Original Series after that and spent the next year sulking. Now Fred Freiberger was brought in to see the series home. Fred wasn't really sure what Trek was about and neither was the story editor that was brought in along with him, but according to a fair number of the cast (in particular Shatner and Nichelle Nichols) he hustled hard to keep the show on the air within the restrictions imposed by NBC, and basically kept it alive with enough money per episode to buy a small pack of potato chips and a couple of bottles of Coke before it started eating into the lighting and cast budget. However despite Gene's non-involvement with the show, to the point where he wouldn't even go over scripts before airing (effectively ceeding creative control), he still took time put Fred on blast for "killing his show" when he himself made no real attempt to correct things and continued to bury him until the very end decades later. Gene's attitude at this time pushed away a lot of long time Trek crew from the show even before the sets were struck, associate producer Robert Justman being one of them. For what it's worth, Freiberger said that dealing with Gene was more unpleasant than being a POW in the second World War (which he was, having been shot down and captured at one point) since that "only lasted a few years", whereas Gene going nuclear at every convention and his fanboys aping him subsequently went on for half a century.
This is a big wall of text, but really, all you need to know is this. By all accounts, Gene Roddenberry was in all likelihood a tremendous piece of shit who wasted a lot of oxygen that other people could have used to greater effect. He was very lucky to have people to be surrounded by a lot of people, some just as bad and some better than he was, who processed his output into what we know as the early canon of Star Trek.

>read the last bit
There is no interpersonal conflict in Star Trek II between the crew members. I guess you could say Chekov, but he had a bug in his ear.
TMP has nothing in it, really. It could be any crew that goes to encounter V’ger. It’s not a Star Trek story at all. It’s the dumb science fiction of an unscientific man trying to make something profound.
In Star Trek II, the characters matter and it is a Star Trek story. Kirk uses the transponder code, Spock sacrifices himself, the lure Khan in the nebula, they bluff, there’s the genesis deviceand quest to protect it.

Also Berman and Taylor basically created the DS9 setting, starting with "The Wounded". Berman fleshed rather a lot of it without Gene's approval since he thought the Great Bird would imitate a rock pigeon and shit on the project if it was brought up while he was having a "nuts" spell. He tried bringing up twice in a lucid environment but each time Roddenberry degenerated too quickly for much to be discussed before he had to switch tracks.
Both times the series was killed, it was specifically because of agendas from the executives of NBC and CBS, respectively. CBS was the most damming of the two since the exec there in question basically thinks Star Wars and Star Trek are the same thing, and that it's basically a cookie-cutter IP when it is quite different from a lot of sci-fi out there.

>After the flop of the Motion Picture, Roddenberry wanted the next movie to be the Enterprise going back in time to stop the Kennedy Assassination, but deciding they couldn’t because it would alter history.
I wouldn't say TMP was a flop, it was certainly an odd movie, but the fandom had been approaching critical mass, so people went to see the shit out of it, and it did pretty well in theaters.
Although yeah, my favorite story about batshit Roddenberry wanting to write the sequels involves all that time travel shit, and then I think it gradually changed from "stop the Kennedy assassination" to "Spock personally shooting Kennedy from the grassy knoll." And then a lot of "the crew has discussions with Einstein and Lincoln and etc" and it sounds way up its own ass. I almost wish I could read it, because it sounds worse than Joss Whedon's screenplay for Wonder Woman (it actually had the main villain teleporting behind Wonder Woman, and then it had the invisible jet too for some reason).

It would be pretty illogical as the primary reason for killing Kennedy, it's been theorised, was to keep America in Vietnam. A war which, according to the Pentagon Papers, was unwinnable from the very beginning.
If they ran with that idea it would, ironically, be the very inverse of City on the Edge of Forever, where (in the aired version) they let the woman die because if she'd lived she'd have kept America out of World War II
