I know there has been TAS which was more of a cartoon. I was merely curious though how well a Star Trek anime would work with things like Andorian waifus? Think it could be pulled off anons? What would you pitch?

>What would you pitch?

The Seven Deadly Sins in space. A crew of wacky Federation-species mercenaries (each with a racial specialty: Vulcan telepath, Klingon warrior, Terran strategist & leader, Ferengi quartermaster, etc.) who steal a ship and go about getting revenge on a person or planet that screwed them over and left them to die.

Four seasons long series following four Starfleet officers graduating from the academy and getting assigned to a ship for what was to be a boring border patrol run only for a war to break out between the Federation and an as of yet unknown alien empire (maybe the Tkon come back or the Breen get organized, who knows). The subsequent seasons deal with friendship, loss, new discoveries and revelations of personal truths.

f4a865 (4) No.2879

>>2876

Plenty of material for that in the TLE timeline. In fact nothing would be better for that since there were a few wars around that era, the Cardassians and Talarians for example. Also fact that the Starfleet had changed it's focus drastically and a generation that was brought up to fear the Klingons would be coming to grips with the fact they aren't their enemies anymore but somehow their allies.

Firstly, do japs even know about Star Trek?

Secondly, who in their right mind want a Trek show where the captain screams the name of the attack pattern at the top of his lungs every time they have to fire? Moe blobs? Having every single character be a 2 dimensional stereotype? An all female crew? We all remember what happened last time Caitans everywhere encouraging the furries? That insane and down right suicidal loyalty crews always have to their captains in anime?

The list goes on. Anime just isn't the medium for something like trek.

Unless they do a series about the dominion war in the style of LoGH…

A show about a Terran, a Ferengi, and a changeling in a small craft, having misadventures throughout the alpha quadrant. It would be mostly episodic, but occasionally there would be small arcs, or references to earlier episodes. The show would mostly revolve around poking fun at different aspects of the Trek universe. Simply put, it would be Space Dandy in a Star Trek setting.

>>5040

Bat'leth actually isn't that bad in terms of weapon design.

bf0773 (4) No.5065>>5067

>>5049

A Bat'leth has a whole lot of bad shit going for it in terms of weapon design.

Its overweight, short reach, awkward to handle and redirect, compared to a sword, let alone a rapier, designed for long reach, speed of movement and agility.

The Bat'leth seems more like it was designed to use the movements of quarter staff fencing and apply it to a weapon small enough to be useful inside a starships interior where you wouldn't have the room to manoeuvre or fight with a regular sword or polearm. In this regard, the Bat'leth does have the advantage over something like a longsword or a katana, which require room to swing it, which would be hard to fight in a brawl between multiple combatants in one of the enterprises corridors.

Its a marginal advantage, though, where a knife would be nearly as good, and a handgun even more so.

Overall I'd say the main problem with the bat'leth is that its used as any more than a ceremonial holdover from their past, and makes as much sense as a GI going into the jungles of 'nam armed with a zweihänder.

Personally I'd prefer to see electrified totschläger or a Katar used as sidearms or at the very least a predator style collapsible spear. Maybe even one of those cool monofilament/laser whips we used to get in sci fi?

Any of those would have looked way cooler than the Bat'leth while still looking unlike the stuff we'd expect to see human space soldiers armed with.

But hey, at least the bat'leth doesn't look as stupid and impractical as the vulcan shovel or that silly spikey gauntlet of poison.

Bat'leth is actually practical when you understand that there is a martial art to it, and it is not really something you should treat like a typical bladed weapon since it can push and shove more like a polearm type weapon than anything. It's great for getting someone on their ass for example and is surprisingly defensive in nature.

For example if someone is swinging at you with a sword, axe, mace etc a weapon like the Bat'leth would allow you to push into that attack and distrupt it with ease, swing it around an arm or leg and you pretty much could easily trip someone or toss them about. It's when you face spears and shields really is when it is let down since anything that can shove back really will put you at a disadvantage. It probably would make an excellent dueling weapon and crowd control weapon all things considered but not something great for large scale battles.

tl;dr version: Far from being an impratical weapon but also far from being the most pratical weapon.

>Bat'leth actually isn't that bad in terms of weapon design.

You couldn't design a worse weapon if you tried.

>>5067

>Bat'leth is actually practical when you understand that there is a martial art to it

A martial art existing for it doesn't make it any less ineffective. There was a martial art invented for farming scythes and that didn't make them viable in combat.

>It's great for getting someone on their ass for example and is surprisingly defensive in nature.

Ah yes, history is littered with wars in which people only shoved each other to the ground. The Klingon's use it for far more than just shoving.

>and is surprisingly defensive in nature

It's no where near as usable and anything else. It's awkward to swing around to even be defensive to begin with.

>For example if someone is swinging at you with a sword, axe, mace etc a weapon like the Bat'leth would allow you to push into that attack and distrupt it with ease

You could also do that with a weapon that isn't awkward to use in literally every other capacity.

It is exclusively impractical. Give me a Mek'leth any day of the week.

>there is a martial art to it

Every medieval weapon made for professional warriors of any kind in the history of the planet has had some kind of martial art to accompany it.

A fundemental part of any weapon training is starting out learning how to fight unarmed first.

So this is no special feature for this weapon.

And while you do wield it like a quarterstaff, the bat'leth lacks the reach of one since it doesn't extend much more than a foot past the out grips. A bat'leth infact has significantly less reach than a one handed sword.

The bat'leth is also heavy and poorly balanced compared to an average sword, and thus slow and unwieldy by comparison. This can be somewhat offset by holding it in two hands, but doing so limits its reach even further.

While the weapon is well shaped for defending and parrying, its poor balance makes it slow for such.

Consider a fight between someone armed with a rapier, 120cm to 140cm long blade made for speed, vs a bat'leth. The reach and speed of the rapier allows it's user to strike with impunity from well beyond the reach of the bat'leth, and while the bat'leth may parry the first blow, the rapiers lightness and agility allows its wielder to recover and strike again long before the bat'leth can be readied to parry again.

The bat'leths sole advantage is that you can swing it in confined spaces, like the inside of a spaceship, since it doesn't need much room to swing, while still being heavy enough that it can't be easily parried by the kind of melee weapons that would normally be used at these ranges, mostly variations of knives like the mek'leth.

However, since the enemy is likely to be using guns of some sort, no matter how practical you think the bat'leth is, you have to admit its an incredibly poor choice for your main armament for a any kind of open fights outside dueling.

Surely klingons where far too honourable to shoot at eachother. Besides, they undoubtedly wore platemail back then anyhow.

Are you retarded? Getting someone on their ass and then bashing their brains out with a hammer was a valid Medieval tactic to deal with armored troops especially knights.

>you can shove people with it

>you don't win wars by just shoving people

>HEY GUY BUT WHAT ABOUT WARHAMMERS

Well what about warhammers? He mentioned its strength in pushing people over and that's what I was referring to. Shoving is not the same as smashing someone. A mace or warhammer is designed to damage them through armour by being a lump of blunt mass. He said shove though. Not 'use it like a warhammer'. And you can't use a Bat'leth as a warhammer, or really as a blunt weapon in general. Maybe you should read the conversation before trying to partake in it.

No I was calling you out on saying that shoving someone on the ground wasn't a real or valid tactic. Even without a hammer having someone on the ground dazed gives you an opportunity to find a chink in their armor and then exploit it which funny enough did happen with bladed weapons. You really need to read up some Medieval combat before you assume you know shit about how combat would go down.

A rapier would be a massive gamble as one strick would essentially snap it and considering Klingons do wear armour so not sure it would be a good choice. It's use would be like debating the use of a Longsword vs a Cavalry Saber. Don't argue that a knife would be better close in but just that really a Bat'leth would actually surprise you especially in a more Medieval setting especially considering how combat would actually be fought and what weapons you would encounter.

In regards to close combat, I honestly wonder why the Klingons never developed a chainsaw honestly. I've always pictured Gowron running around a Cardassian warship with the biggest grin and eyes chasing them down with a chainsaw

bf0773 (4) No.5106>>5107

>would essentially snap it

We are talking about a practical rapier here, not the kind used in modern sport fencing, not that you could snap either with a strike, since the blade is designed to be able to bend and anyone with even a little training would know better than to try a hard parry anyway. So no, you wouldn't break the blade it half, just brush it slightly out of the way, from which your opponent can recover far faster than you can get your bat'leth back to guard against his riposte.

Then again, if you honestly think its easy to just cut your opponents sword in half, then you really are to ignorant on the subject martial arts.

Might I suggest you watch less samurai animes, and try some real world fending instead?

>>5098

Better than knocking someone to the ground is giving them a mortal wound with your first blow. Trying to get an opponent on the ground is only easier than simply stabbing them if they are wearing heavy armor you can't stab through.

Also, warhammers, by which I hope you mean IRL warhammers, like a typical cavalry hammer, are one handed weapons with limited reach designed to concuss or injure heavily armored opponents. Not for tackling or dragging them to the ground.

If you want to trip, push or pull over an opponent, you want a halberd or similar polearm with extra hooky and spikey bits, like a bill or a voulge, not a puny little warhammer.

>fencing is an accurate representation of combat

Words can't describe how retarded you are being.

Much thicker steel blades can bend and snap even if it strikes wood far more likely to get stuck If you use a rapier against anyone wearing armour nevermind someone using a blade that would be immersibly thicker it will struggle and risk snapping if you swing or thrust with enough force that you can actually deal any true damage. Even modern fencing the against people wearing armour the blades bend out of shape all the time and they tend to push into attacks than wait for a deflection so there is no what you would call heavy strikes.

Frankly if you bring a rapier against anyone who is for example wearing plate all you are going to do is piss him off while you tire yourself out. They don't even need to swing at your sword, just literally punch it with a gauntlet and it's going to be useless. There was a reason why rapiers were used for dueling and dueling only.

You should look at real combat scenarios which is more like a pub brawl than an organised duel.

>fencing is an accurate representation of combat

I specifically said it WASN'T you fucking retard.

There's a difference between modern sports fencing and actual marital arts and the rapiers I'm referring to are the ones from the 16th to 17th century used primarily for street brawls and duelling. The kind that still have a cutting edge.

Also there's a world of difference between snapping a blade by hitting a rock with it and hitting a weapon held by an opponent, who will be moving it out of the way as it gets hit.

Also, who the fuck is talking about weapons for stabbing armoured enemies? When was the last time you saw anyone on the show wearing armour you degenerate moron?

Besides, why are you so hung up on rapiers? I only mentioned it as an EXAMPLE of a weapon that is vastly superior to the bat'leth at what is presumably one of its main functions, namely 1v1 duels of honour.

Estoc > Rapier

This reminds me of the in TOG were Kirk captured a bunch of klingons and an alien gave everyone swords and made them fight, it was hilarious.

a1d6b6 (6) No.5205

I never said it isn't a valid tactic, and said its pointless to have a weapon which only does that efficiently rather than actually wound your opponent and be effective and wounding.

>Even without a hammer having someone on the ground dazed gives you an opportunity to find a chink in their armor and then exploit it which funny enough did happen with bladed weapons.

And the Bat'leth is useless for that purpose since it is unwieldy to use. Fighting with your bare hands and teeth are a more valid option.

>You really need to read up some Medieval combat before you assume you know shit about how combat would go down.

Coming from a guy defending the Bat'leth this means less than nothing.
