Funny to think that in spite of how advanced he bod may be, Motoko is still affected by the weather. Based on how atmo pressure can effect people's health and on how the current thunderstorm is fucking with my internet, it's no wonder ol' shousa feels like shit when it's raining.

Can't they do anything to fix that?

What do you suggest? Reliving pressure? Waterproofing? Giving her an EMP proof coating?

All of those sound like sensible implementations yeah. You'd think the boys at the lab would have slapped a couple extra layers of isolation around her lil brain.

Otherwise, Oshii might just latch onto that sentence and end up using rain as a metaphor for immaculate conception and/or illusory deception as part of his water=spirit=belief allegory, only for the wachowskis to make it into a visual shorthand for the matrix in their movie.

But oh well, I guess we got cool wallpapers out of it in the early-mid-2000s

It's an interesting thing; been going through the comic here and I noticed in the scene where Motoko's back up body is rotting due to bad storage, a few questions get raised.

First off, how the hell did she manage to get something so corrosive and rotting (later on one of the random gang members comments on the stink) on acrylics, silicon and aluminium. Even with the comment on anti-fungals, that's got to be some nasty mold to get it to actively break down all that plastics. Second, it's interesting to highlight the problems with black market stuff; no doubt this was designed to be of similar spec to Motoko's issued body but obviously not to the same standards if it's rotting away. She also doesn't mention natural oil or such (which I imagine to be vegetable derived lubricant or such) or something like that here.

Anyway, another thing that came to mind is plastic really doesn't break down well if it's sealed off like that so are these cyborg bodies made to be bio-degradeable? Or am I just overthinking things.
