PDF reader.

What's a good PDF reader for windows?

I want something that preferrably has a fullscreen mode without any toolbars or scrollbars (for instance the built in firefox reader can't avoid this) and preferrably has an option for a black background (firefox reader can't do this either).

I've been using CDisplayEx which works good for everything except PDFs. It'll attach garbage to the bottom/top of pages, fail to render some pages, tell me the pdf has more pages than it really does and then those extra pages are broken, I've also had this really gay issue where some pages are displayed sideways, specially if the page is wider than it is taller. It even randomly repeated a page once.

I like sumatraPDF personally. It has a presentation mode that's defaulted to ctrl+f that has both of the things you are looking for, and you can adjust the settings as you please by editing its config file. Pic related is an example.

I meant ctrl+l. ctrl+f is obviously a search function.

I've had that issue before and I came to the conclusion is that there isn't a single good comic/book reader out there.

Here's my setup:

>CDisplayEX for comics

>SumatraPDF for EPUBs

>Evince for PDFs

CDisplayEX doesn't support EPUB and its PDF viewer is garbage, it's very buggy and it won't render the text at a higher resolution if you zoom it in, it'll take the text and resample it leading to shitty blurry text. For comics it works just fine and it can take .zip and .rar files with sequentially named images such as the ones you find on exhentai zips, it can resample things with lanczos and it's the only comic viewer for windows that does it so if you're not "reading" your doujins at the native resolution it gives you the best image quality.

SumatraPDF has the issue I'll talk about further down below, but otherwise its EPUB reader lets you set a background and text color flawlessly.

Evince reads PDFs just fine, and if you press CTRL + I it'll set the background to black and the text to white. The only issue is that while the pages may be black the blank space on the interface itself will still be a bright grey which is awful but there's nothing better.

Another thing, CDisplayEX in general is unstable and loves to crash, at least it remembers the page you were at unlike SumatraPDF however. CDisplayEX also won't let you read your images while it loads them which is really stupid, you have to wait a few seconds until it loads all of the 400 images on some overly long doujin before you can start it, which can take a minute.

If you read a PDF with sumatraPDF and set the background color it also inverts the color of the images for some reason, and then you have to manually set it to white and black back and forth on the config file to fix it, I wouldn't mind that if there was a hotkey but there isn't.

Not for windows, but using a Gear VR headset is pretty comfy for manga reading. In my experience the best app that's available at the moment is "Comic Reader" that you can only get in the SideLoad-VR repo app, but you can adjust zoom levels and switch pages hands-free with simple head-turning gestures. It's far from perfect; there's no anti-aliasing so a lot of the lines look jagged if you don't zoom in enough (and shaded in areas will have a flickering effect), the loading time to go from one page to the next can sometimes take up to a full second, and overall it's pretty unpolished as is everything virtual reality related. But it's still good for those who have small monitors, poor eyesight, etc.

I use sumantra for pdfs and nomacs for images.
