If so, Blame! is great. But so much is explained through vast and vague no-dialogue segments, you might need to resorto to third party analisys to get the whole of the story.

Might as well complete the quartet. Check out BASTARD!! It's way less serious than the others, but chock full of violence, over-the-top action, and meticulous art.

Also, while I haven't read it yet, one of Berserk's major inspirations was Devilman, which apparently influenced its explicit content, apocalyptic stakes, and epic character tragedy.
