The people mentioned here have potential, and I'd love to see their writing improve. What holds them back is similar to what holds Eliezer back– the writing often draws attention to itself (and the writer) rather than the content.
It's infinitely tiring to read something with underlying self-involved messages like "Look at Me, I'm Smart/Cultured/Funny/Well-Read!" or "I'm X, Validate/Accept Me!".

While Gwern is the father of several of my children, I'm afraid I have to disagree with you a bit; while you are possibly correct about why the other blogs aren't that great (I don't know, I haven't read them), *Gwern's* style is held back by being so darn bland. I want to read Gwern's essays because the subjects are interesting, but goddamn is his prose lifeless.
His posts are typically less tedious when he's talking more candidly about some less acedemic interest of his, or editorializing. However, given his later letters to jack0fnone (https://www.gwern.net/Blackmail#jack0fnone), I'm not entirely certain he's capable of writing in a truly engaging way, like Scott or Eliezer. I don't think he has it in him at the moment, and maybe he never will. (I think this because he describes those letters as having fun by affecting a persona, but the resulting persona is trite, so it is unclear that allowing himself to have fun while writing would allow Gwern to write with decent voice)
Gwern is still my third favorite rationalist, though. I haven't read most of the people in the Venn diagram so far, but I'm still confident he ranks above them, coasting on the strength of his intellect & diligence alone. Gwern if youre reading this i love you marry me
