Like most white people, I was raised as a Christian and had a pretty normal life, enjoyed Christmas with my grandparents, went on Easter Egg hunts on Easter, and so on.
Around age 18, some popular kids at school who I was connected with, died in a car crash so I started asking a lot of deeper questions about life and so on. I remember going to a used book store and seeing Hindu books with their colorful art of gods and it really attracted me.
Later on, I joined a yoga group and the first thing they taught me was how to cheat and scam people. A bit later after that, I finally got a chance to visit India so I did. I was expecting some kind of spiritual paradise. What I saw instead was masses of people who were basically spiritually dead, their souls crushed by poverty and corruption. It was utterly horrifying and I can say with 100% conviction that India is the worst country on earth. Everything in India was so dirty and disgusting. The food was tasteless, the people were super creepy and constantly looking to scam and cheat. I was on a rooftop and heard shouting and looked over and one indian guy was literally slapping an indian woman in the face. All said, India is the poorest, dirtiest, and most corrupt country on earth. I'm glad I visited because I realised how good I had it growing up in a rich western country.
Needless to say, I very soon left that yoga group and now I'm simply a human being, I don't need religion or any of that. You can only find peace within. Meditation and shamanism are two very legit paths that focus on true growth instead of blind religious dogma and faith.
