Interesting thread... I know nobody will probably believe this, but I was a user on here on the very beginning, from all the way back when there were less than 1000 posts on /b/.
I wasn't very involved, but I did come on a weekly basis and it was kind of entertaining, at least to teenage me from back then. There was some guy always trying to advertise his own altchan and getting trolled left and right. I even remember /b/'s top banner being that guy's face spinning around and I think then showing a slice of pizza and also his girlfriend (?).
The site was very slow-moving and I thought it would get taken down at any time. There was sometimes like one post a day... if not a week, I don't remember anymore.
Then suddenly I came one day in I think September 2014 and the whole board had been raided by people escaping 4chan's /b/ because of some drama I didn't care about. There were suddenly so many posts that everything that existed from before had already disappeared. The way these people behaved also felt different. I was so annoyed. There was a reason why I wasn't a 4channer in the first place. It's not like they took the site's previous little subculture in, no, that was gone and forgotten for good and now it was all about Gamergate, Zoey Quinn or however it was spelled, and so on.
Then after some time, 8chan started appearing more and more on the media. The worst of the worst. People would even publish terrorist manifestos on here. Like I would've never imagined this place would get so infamous.
I think you can still get a glimpse of what was going on if you look around on archive.org. You could back in 2014, maybe 2015.
But overall I was kind of happy at the same time because of boards like /hebe/ popping up. But I've just come on here today and can't seem to find anything like that, so yeah, bye.
