I am very concerned about the British government’s decision to provide Huawei, the Chinese-owned telecom company, access to critical British infrastructure.

This decision has the potential to jeopardize US-UK intelligence sharing agreements and could greatly complicate a US-UK free trade agreement.

Washington Democrat Forced to Take Down Trump Sign, Will Put Up an Even Bigger One

Kevin Chambers is a local radio host in Bremerton, Washington, and a Democrat – albeit one with a good sense of humor. While out of town in November, a Republican friend put up a Trump/Pence 2020 field sign in his yard as a joke. The sign got defaced with graffiti, so another sign took its place – this time on 15-foot stilts. That’s when, Chambers says, things got a little weird. Two days before Christmas, he received a letter from the city of Bremerton informing him that the new sign violated city code concerning commercial signs. And that’s when he became defiant.

Chambers appeared on my podcast to talk about the whole thing. He told me that some folks made comments in a Facebook group for the local community that they would come to his house to deface the sign, egg the sign, and damage his property. Chambers then said, with a chuckle, “At that point, I decided the sign was going to stay up. As much as I’m not a Trump fan, I’m even less of a fan of people threatening to come to my house and damage my property. I figured if I took the sign down, it would somehow allow them to think that they caused me to take it down.” Chambers also installed a trail cam, just in case anyone else decided to vandalize his property. The Trump sign in Chambers’ yard has gotten national attention, as he’s done interviews for outlets as far away as Miami.

The letter from the City of Bremerton gave Chambers until January 21 to take down the sign. He has reluctantly taken it down, but the story doesn’t end there. Chambers dug into the city’s commercial sign code and found a rather large loophole. The code does indeed say that a sign can only be six feet off the ground – however, if it’s a banner instead of a sign, it can be up to 25 feet off the ground. In our interview, Chambers told me that the larger issue around the sign is whether other people can tell him what to do with his property. “We can argue whether Trump is a good president or not,” he said, “or whether he’s a quality guy. I’ll have that conversation all day long. The larger issue for me is, why do we allow neighbors to tell other neighbors what they can do in their yard? The sign is not a safety issue. It doesn’t overhang into the sidewalk. You literally cannot see the sign unless you’re looking directly at my house as you drive by. And I honestly don’t believe that if this were a Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden sign, anyone would have complained.”

The lengths to which political opponents will go to censor each other really bothers Chambers. “The thing that has been highlighted in this thing is how divided we’ve become politically,” he said. “We used to be able in this country to agree to disagree. I now must stop you from sharing your opinion because you’ve offended me. I think it’s dangerous.” Chambers is rare among Democrats these days. He told me, “I’ve often said on my show that if Donald Trump would just stay off Twitter, he’d be regarded as one of the greatest presidents of our time. If you look at the employment numbers, if you look at the employment numbers for minorities, if you look at consumer confidence, if you look at the economy as a whole, all of these metrics are really strong. The problem is that he’s undermined himself on Twitter so much that that becomes the narrative.” He goes on to point out that the extremes in his own party have completely ignored moderate Democrats. “The Left is taking a beating on the Right about being so far left,” he said. “I really want to remind Republicans that there is a large number of moderate voters that have been completely omitted from the process that are seeing the slant from the leftist media, that are seeing the economic numbers, that are seeing the value in protecting what you guys would call conservative values – property rights, gun ownership, free speech. I think there’s a lot of Democrats that are not that far off from Republicans on those key issues. I think that’s why Donald Trump won.”

As for the sign controversy with the city, Chambers tells me to stay tuned. The banner has been ordered, and it should be up this week – higher and more in your face than anything before. Despite not being a Trump supporter, he will continue to fight for his rights of free expression and property.

Avenatti Googled "Insider Trading" And "Nike Puts" Before Attempting To Shake Down Sneaker Giant

Somehow, before driving his firm and himself into near bankruptcy due to his insatiable lifestyle addiction, Michael Avenatti was once a respected California lawyer.

A respected California lawyer who clearly had no qualms googling things like "Insider trading" and "Nike puts" before allegedly attempting to extort the world's biggest manufacturer of athletic shoes. Even if he wasn't arrested for the threats, the SEC would have almost certainly nailed him if he tried to trade on his own press conference.

With Avenatti's trial set to begin next week, prosecutors are arguing that the judge should admit a history of Avenatti's google searches, which they argued offer critical insights into Avenatti's state of mind while he was concocting the so-called extortion plot (Avenatti originally partnered with another celebrity lawyer, Mark Geragos, according to media reports. However, Geragos was never charged in the scheme).

According to Bloomberg, prosecutors informed US District Judge Paul Gardephe about the emails on Monday, and are now trying to convince the judge to let the jury see the evidence. However, the judge has raised some hackles with their argument, pointing out that Avenatti is not being tried for insider-trading related charges.

Despite being re-arrested two weeks ago for violating his bail terms by - what else? - trying to conceal money from the government, Avenatti appeared in court Monday wearing a real suit (instead of an orange jumpsuit) for his pre-trial hearing. Opening statements in the trial could start as soon as Tuesday.

We're certain Avenatti's lawyers will use every trick in the book to try to redirect the jury's focus to Nike's misdeeds, rather than Avenatti's allegedly illegal behavior. They've already leaked information about texts showing Nike lawyers mocking the FBI to the press, suggesting that the company's wrongdoing will be a cornerstone of their defense.

But judge Gardephe said Monday he won't allow the trial to "involve an exploration" of whether Nike sought to corrupt youth basketball. But the lawyers can argue to the jury that Nike's intentions when they approached the FBI about Avenatti were less than pure.

Nike argued in a filing that Avenatti was simply trying to "put the government’s and Nike’s conduct on trial” because he can’t dodge the video and audio evidence of his demands on the company.

"He intends to misdirect the jury - pointing their attention anywhere but on his own conduct - in the hope that at least one of them will be confused by evidence that is legally irrelevant and factually inaccurate," Nike said.

Responding to this, the "creepy porn lawyer's" legal team described the google searches mentioned above as a "red herring."

"The obvious implication is that Mr. Avenatti illegally traded in Nike stock based upon information obtained from Coach Franklin," the defense lawyers said in a Jan. 24 court filing. "That did not happen, the government has no evidence that it did, and Mr. Avenatti is not charged with insider trading."

They show that the Avast antivirus program installed on a person’s computer collects data, and that Jumpshot repackages it into various different products that are then sold to many of the largest companies in the world. Some past, present, and potential clients include Google, Yelp, Microsoft, McKinsey, Pepsi, Sephora, Home Depot, Condé Nast, Intuit, and many others. Some clients paid millions of dollars for products that include a so-called “All Clicks Feed,” which can track user behavior, clicks, and movement across websites in highly precise detail.

Chipotle was hit with a $1.3 million fine over more than 13,000 child labor violations at its Massachusetts restaurants, the state's attorney general said Monday.

Attorney General Maura Healey ordered the largest child labor penalty ever issued by the state against the Mexican restaurant chain after finding an estimated 13,253 child labor violations in its more than 50 locations.

"Chipotle is a major national restaurant chain that employs thousands of young people across the country and it has a duty to ensure minors are safe working in its restaurants," Healey said in a statement. "We hope these citations send a message to other fast food chains and restaurants that they cannot violate our child labor laws and put young people at risk."

The fine detailed that Chipotle had employees under the age of 18 working past midnight and for more than 48 hours a week. Teenagers told investigators their hours of work were so long that it was preventing them from keeping up with their schoolwork. The company also regularly hired minors without work permits.

The settlement total is closer to $2 million, including penalties for earned sick time violations in which managers granted employees paid time off only for certain illnesses. The violations also include failure to keep accurate records and pay timely wages. Lastly, the company was ordered a voluntary $500,000 payout to a state youth worker fund dedicated to education, enforcement and training.
