AOC: Marginalized People Around the World 'Have No Choice But to Riot'

One of my rules of thumb is that liberals want conservatives to shut up, and conservatives want liberals to keep talking. The more libs babble and the more of their worldview they reveal to the world, the more Americans they alienate on Election Day. And when it comes to driving away prospective voters, nobody's better than the new face of the Democratic Party: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Here's AOC's latest delicious bon mot, courtesy of Rachel Frazin at The Hill:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said this week during an appearance on Ebro in the Morning that marginalized communities have "no choice but to riot…"

Her remarks came during a discussion of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but Ocasio-Cortez clarified that she was talking about marginalized groups more generally.

"I don't think that by marginalizing Palestinians, you create safety. I believe that injustice is a threat to the safety of all people. Because once you have a group that is marginalized and marginalized and marginalized, then you create a… Once someone doesn't have access to clean water, they have no choice but to riot. Right? And it doesn't have to be that way. And I'm not even talking about Palestinians, I'm talking about communities in poverty in the United States, I'm talking about Latin America, I'm talking about, like, all over the world. That's a U.S. politician saying publicly that not only is it okay for people to riot in the streets, but that they actually have no choice. They're not responsible for their own actions. They have no human agency. They're being controlled by whomever isn't giving them what they want.

And who decides which communities are "marginalized" and which ones aren't? Who grants them such a license to commit violence? Not you or me, bub.

Of course, it's okay for AOC to say such things because she's not a Republican. And besides, hasn't Trump said some stupid things about public violence? Harrumph, harrumph, hand-wave, hand-wave.

Craft, a Republican donor who is currently ambassador to Canada, was confirmed despite opposition from Democrats who criticized President Donald Trump's nominee as too inexperienced for the post.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate on Wednesday confirmed Kelly Craft, a Republican donor who is currently ambassador to Canada, as ambassador to the United Nations, despite opposition from Democrats who criticized President Donald Trump's nominee as too inexperienced for the post.

The Senate backed Craft by a vote of 56 to 34, largely along party lines, moving to end seven months without a permanent U.S. envoy to the world body.

U.N. ambassador is one of several high-level positions in the Trump administration held for months by temporary appointees as the White House struggles to deal with a chronic, high turnover of top administration officials.

The Senate last week confirmed Army Secretary Mark Esper, a former lobbyist, as secretary of defense, ending a record seven-month period in which the Pentagon lacked a permanent top official.

This week, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats announced his resignation.

Trump nominated Craft, 57, for the U.N. post after a recommendation from Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who represents her home state of Kentucky.

She had faced fierce opposition from some Democrats.

Senator Bob Menendez, the top Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, accused Craft of lacking the "seriousness and professionalism" for the post at the world body.

Craft, the wife of a billionaire coal industry executive, generated controversy shortly after assuming her post in Ottawa by telling Canadian Broadcasting she believed "both sides" of the climate change debate.

However, she acknowledged during her confirmation hearing that climate change is a global threat and pledged to recuse herself from any U.N. talks on the issue involving coal because of her husband's position.

Menendez on Wednesday released a report that said Craft spent the majority of her time as ambassador to Canada outside of the country.

Craft's backers called her a tough negotiator on a trade deal with Canada and Mexico who had established decent working relationships with both Republicans and Democrats.

Craft will have the difficult job of defending Trump's "America First" foreign policy and navigating his criticism of the United Nations while getting global diplomats to back U.S. policies.

Trump's first U.N. ambassador, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, announced her resignation in October and left the position at the end of last year.

Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon congratulated Craft.

"Congratulations to Ambassador Kelly Craft on her confirmation to represent the United States at the U.N. I look forward to welcoming her to Turtle Bay, and continuing to build upon the great achievements of the United States and Israel. We will continue to lead our countries to great heights in the diplomatic arena," he said in a statement.

TOKYO, July 31 /TASS/. The cost of dismantling the Japanese nuclear power plant Fukushima-2 will exceed 400 bln yen (about $3.6 bln), the Kyodo news agency reported on Wednesday referring to the conclusion made by Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).

TEPCO previously made a formal decision to decommission the power plant.

Deadlines for dismantling have yet to be set. The project also envisages the construction of a new storage facility for spent fuel and other nuclear waste from the plant.

The Fukushima-2 NPP is located 12 km south of the troubled Fukushima-1 NPP.

The NPP consists of four power units of 250 MW each. They were built and put into operation between 1981 and 1986. During the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, the accident at Fukushima-2 was prevented, and the reactors were shut down.

In March 2011, an earthquake-induced tsunami triggered a nuclear disaster at the Fukushima-1 power plant knocking out vital reactor cooling systems. This resulted in three nuclear meltdowns, hydrogen explosions and a massive release of radioactive waste, which contaminated the surrounding area. Clean-up operations continue at the power plant and adjacent territories. According to the current action plan, full decommissioning of the station may take place only around 2040.
