The media, and hence the public soul,

Or would you lock control down in some way?
And if you locked control down would you try
To do it in a way to fool the eye?
To make it seem like free speech carried on

For if you shut down free speech openly
The public would respond suspiciously;
But if you hid control beneath a ruse
What you once feared becomes a tool to use.
So that, controlling, you have it both ways–
Enslaving dissent, dictating what it says!

Target dissent, as I'm sure most people know.
Do we think that having sunk its claws

That the FBI would then allow
Free speech to have stayed quite free till now?

Enough to spark the understanding thought,

FBI Director Christopher Wray appeared on Capitol Hill Tuesday and testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee which is examining oversight of the bureau.
Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Lindsey Graham (R-SC) asked Wray, “Are the Russians still trying to interfere in our election systems?”
Without offering any examples or evidence, Wray responded by saying, “The Russians are absolutely intent on trying to interfere with our elections through foreign influence.”

Sputnik reports that Libya has seized an Italian vessel in the Gulf of Sirte
The seizure comes as tensions between Iran and the UK climb as both countries have seized tankers. Iran captured two British-flagged oil tankers in retaliation for British Royal Marines seizing a Panamanian-flagged tanker carrying a shipment of Iranian crude. The UK has threatened a "robust" response if Iran doesn't release the two ships and their crew, though Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said the UK isn't exploring "military options" at this early stage.
Though the motive for the seizure hasn't yet been made clear, many suspect piracy or some kind of fisherman's dispute (the ship was a fishing trawler).
Rome told Italy's ambassador to Libya to "work promptly with the utmost efficacy to ensure the correct treatment and rapid release of the crew and the vessel…which has been forced to head for Misrata," the ministry told Sputnik.
The waters where the Italian ship was seized are denoted as "high risk," mostly because of the instability in Libya, which hasn't had a functioning national government since the NATO-backed ouster of Muammar Gaddafi.
However, in Misrata, the part of Libya closest to where the ship was seized, the Government of National Accord, the Italian and UN-recognised Libyan government, is believed to be in control.

What some auto manufacturers and industry experts were passing off as a slight hiccup for the auto industry is rapidly turning into a full-scale recession if not all out depression, one complete with a litany of layoffs in the global auto industry as sales in major countries like the United States and China have been steadily deteriorating for the last 18 months.
We've already seen massive planned layoffs from US auto makers like Ford, and now Nissan is the latest to join the mass layoffs bandwagon, with Kyodo reporting that Nissan will cut over 10,000 jobs globally, or over 7% of its entire global workforce.
In some respects, it's deja vu of The Great Recession for Nissan. In 2009, the company slashed 20,000 jobs before forecasting a $2.6 billion loss. This represented about 8% of the company's 235,000+ employee count at the time.
Today's cuts are likely in response to the deteriorating automotive market in China: recall in early July we reported that Nissan's sales in China from January to June totaled 718,268 units, a 0.3% y/y decline.
In May, we reported that countries like China, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and the United States had all seen at least 38,000 job cuts over the last six months in the automotive sector. Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said in May that "sweeping cost reductions" are ahead to prepare for what he is calling "unprecedented" industry disruption

Americans may want to think twice before that next summer swim. Many of the country’s idyllic beaches conceal a filthy secret below the sand and waves: dangerous levels of bacteria that put thousands of bathers at risk every year.
In a recently published study conducted by the Environment America Research and Policy Center, researchers found that the water at beaches in 29 coastal and Great Lakes states contained concentrations of bacteria well in excess of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards – including the harmful organisms that inhabit human feces – which they said could sicken millions of beachgoers annually.
“It’s hard to believe that 47 years after we passed the Clean Water Act that we are still concerned with poop in the water when people want to go swimming,” John Rumpler, clean water program director for the center, told USA Today.
Bacteria levels can spike to dangerous levels on certain days, such as when rain washes waste from the streets into creeks or streams, which flow into larger bodies of water. Some areas fare much worse than others, however.
In Chicago, all of the 19 beaches sampled were considered unsafe for at least one day in 2018, while the city’s South Shore Beach registered contamination in 93 of the 98 samples collected. California’s Cabrillo Beach also came in high on the list, considered unsafe in 85 out of 175 samples in one section.
On the cleaner end of the spectrum, Georgia’s Jekyll Driftwood Beach provided only 2 contaminated samples out of 46, and Florida’s Bird Key Park resulted in 17 dirty samples out of 67, suggesting that even the tidier beaches can be risky on some days.
The harmful microbes found in the water can cause a litany of unpleasant symptoms in their human hosts, ranging from gastrointestinal illness, respiratory disease, as well as ear, eye and skin infections. However, the most nightmarish surprise lurking below the depths, and one not covered by the center’s study, goes by the name of necrotizing fasciitis – or flesh-eating bacteria. While the horrifying condition is rare, some of the 30 or so organisms that cause the illness are native to America’s lakes and coasts. Two recent cases in Florida left one man dead, while another man nearly lost a leg.
Fortunately, things might not be all bad when it comes to America’s squalid beaches. Luke Ginger, water quality scientist for environmental organization Heal The Bay, told USA Today that the national trends were moving in the right direction, particularly through local government initiatives to treat stormwater runoff, among other anti-pollution measures.
“There are improvements that can be made but for the most part, there’s really good water quality,” Ginger said. “There are just a few beaches that have issues.”

Last week Sajid Javid used an online poll to give a speech a speech on ‘extremism’, quoting from a survey by the Commission for Countering Extremism, set up by in the wake of the Manchester attacks.
From 3,000 respondents to an online survey, more than half said they had witnessed extremism, with 45% saying they had seen it online and 39% said they had seen it in their local area. The report admits this is but a ‘snapshot’. I will return to the ‘respondents’ later in this article.
Saj, I believe, in my dealings with him, is a decent conservative, but he’s missing a trick. He continues to play to the same small crowd, trying to appease the Guardian, BBC, the Left and minorities. To believe the government you would think that the far right is a big problem, it isn’t, it’s thankfully still a very fringe phenomenon. But how do we tackle ‘extremism’ and ‘turn’ those people? What does Saj need to do?
In my time in politics, I was called far right, a Nazi, fascist, racist and xenophobe – all because I believe in border controls, choosing who is allowed to come here, Brexit and fighting against Cultural Marxism. All water off a duck’s back. I was and am remain a conservative, just not a Cameron/May version.
I have some advice to the new government on how to stop the corrosive debate and normalise some of the far right ‘thinking’.
In the last twenty years politics has been polarised with many people feeling left behind and not represented by mainstream politics.
I have written many articles on this, nothing has changed, we are told it’s getting worse. Or is it?
For the past two years I have been spending time with the so-called ‘far right’, I have interviewed the main players, their supporters, attended marches and demonstrations, in the UK, EU, US and Israel. There are very few extremists, just people looking for a political home.
Ah, but you might say, how can she tell as she’s an extremist too? They opened their hearts and minds to me.
Saj is asking the wrong people. The government’s online snapshot of 3,000 highly motivated political activist respondents is a useful soundbite tool, nothing more. It just entrenches the ‘far right’ even more. The Conservatives are missing a trick. To de-radicalise some of these people, the Tories just need to return to wooing the Union and England flag waving patriots. Those people Emily Thornberry hates.

‘Hold My Jacket’: Farage Ready for ‘Punch up’ if Johnson Treats Brexit Party as Enemy
Nigel Farage has said that he is ready for a “punch up” with the prime minister if Boris Johnson treats the Brexit Party as an “enemy”, warning he will need a political alliance in the event of a General Election.
Speaking to Sky News Australia, Mr Farage said that while he is confident that Brexit will happen, he is sceptical it will happen, as Johnson has pledged, on October 31st.
“He has said all the same things Theresa May said about March the 29th: 108 times she told us we were leaving on March 29th and of course we didn’t. There is more sincerity about Brexit with Boris than there was from May, but I’ll wait and see. Given the current make-up of parliament how will he be able to deliver it?” he said.
He added that he was not surprised that parliament voted for an amendment to stop the full prorogation of parliament — which Johnson is said to be considering in order to stop Europhile MPs blocking Brexit on Halloween — remarking that while the country voted to leave, “Parliament simply doesn’t accept the result”.
“Boris faces the most enormous challenge,” Mr Farage continued, saying that the parliamentary arithmetic — with the lower house dominated by Remainers — represents an obstruction to delivering a clean Brexit.
The alternative, Mr Farage said, was a “big, bold General Election”, but that since the arrival of the Brexit Party, which came first in May’s European Parliament election, “the only way Boris could win that [General] Election is if he comes to some kind of accommodation with me and with the Brexit Party”.
On Johnson having ruled out a deal with the Brexit Party on parliamentary seats, Mr Farage said: “I’ve said all the way through this: ‘If Boris wants to have a fight with me then someone hold my jacket.’ that’s fine. I’ll have a punch-up with him any day you like. But if he does that, if he chooses to see me as a political enemy, he can’t win. So it’s up to him.”
Tory Brexiteer Andrew Bridgen made a similar assessment last month, saying that Johnson would have to make an agreement with “kingmaker” Farage in the event of a snap election.
Asked about the future of the Brexit Party should Johnson deliver Brexit as promised, Farage said: “I used to think for years getting Brexit was all we needed. Now, I realise it’s just the beginning of what is needed.
“What we need is a political revolution in this country. Our institutions, our election methods, the House of Lords are unfit for purpose… For this country to be fit for the 21st century in a global economy, we need radical change in this country and I’m going to try my best to deliver it.”

Salvini: “Paris and Berlin will no longer impose mass migration on Italy”
In a letter sent to French interior minister Christophe Castaner, Italy’s national populist interior minister and deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini declared that his country will no bear the brunt of mass migration into Europe.
“France and Germany cannot decide on migration policies by ignoring the demands of the most exposed countries like us and Malta,” Salvini wrote to Castaner.
“The choices made only in Paris and Berlin are enough, Italy is no longer willing to accept all immigrants arriving in Europe,” he added, France Info reports.
The letter was sent over the weekend just before a gathering of EU interior ministers and foreign minister in Paris on Monday where 14 member states agreed to a new “solidarity mechanism” which would put in place infrastructure that would allow newly arrived migrants to be relocated to different EU member states.
Although Salvini was not present at the meeting, where he stands on the issue couldn’t be more clear – namely that mass migration of illegal immigrants be stopped and the EU’s external borders should be secured.
The new agreement was announced by the European Unions number two globalist, Emmanuel Macron, who said, “This morning’s meeting concludes that, in principle, 14 member states, at this stage, have expressed their agreement with the Franco-German document.”
Macron failed to comment on the details.
During an earlier meeting in Helsinki, Italy and Malta proposed the creation and implementation of temporary receiving centers in countries which border those where migrants had left from, declaring that would be the starting point for new negotiations that might take place.
These meetings come as the French NGO SOS Mediterranee’s new ship is set to resume its collection and transportation of migrants into Europe.
At the same time, the captain of the NGO’s ship Aquarius, Evgenii Talanin, along with the captain of the migrant transport NGO Sea-Watch ship, Carola Rackete, are both under investigation in Italy for aiding in illegal immigration.

He has also worked with a number of other charitable and educational groups.
In 2007, Cloobeck publicly considered running for governor of Nevada, but instead purchased Sunterra.[8]
In June 2011, donated $100,000 to Majority PAC, a PAC oriented to promoting Democratic candidates to the U.S. Senate. The donation was sent as a check from "JHJM Nevada I, LLC," which made the source not readily evident.[9]
On June 3, 2016, Cloobeck donated $1,000,000 to Priorities USA Action, a pro-Hillary Clinton PAC.
As of January 2017, he plans to run for governor in the state of Nevada and would seed his campaign with $5 million of his own money. But West Coast cities aren’t the only ones who have exacerbated the problem of homelessness in their communities. Now the liberal enclave of Austin in deep red Texas has joined the ranks of cities about to be overrun with filth and chaos.
As reported by CBS Austin last month, the city council adopted changes to existing ordinances that criminalized panhandling and ‘public camping.’ Specifically:
Overnight, the Austin City Council voted to approve changes to soliciting, camping, sitting, or lying down laws.
That means Austin Police will only be allowed to ticket or arrest a person who is soliciting, camping, sitting, or lying in a public space if they are a public health or safety hazard or blocking a walkway.
“It’s time to decriminalize homelessness in Austin,” said Holly Kirby with the Left-wing group Grassroots Leadership. (Related: Wow: Progressives in Seattle may back conservative who wants to stop doubling down on idiotic homeless policies.)
The change has upset Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and many Republicans, with the governor vowing to overturn the city’s new changes with a state law that overrides them.

Another ‘NY Times’ biased report — this one about Israel’s destruction of Palestinian homes in Jerusalem
The New York Times had to report Israel’s shocking demolition yesterday of Palestinian apartment blocks in Jerusalem; the story was too big to ignore. But the paper’s Isabel Kershner cleverly tried to present Israel’s brutal action in the best possible way, while muffling the voices of the victims.
Contrasting the Times’s coverage with other reports, including an excellent article by Mondoweiss’s Yumna Patel, reveals just how biased Kershner’s effort is.
Kershner’s slant starts right in the second paragraph, with a long quote from an Israeli minister ominously warning that the “mostly uninhabited buildings” were “a severe security threat and can provide cover to suicide bombers and other terrorists. . .” Kershner’s insinuation is clear; Israel reluctantly had to tear down the apartments to protect itself. She nowhere explains that suicide bombings stopped more than a decade ago, and many reports have shown that the so-called separation wall does not stop Palestinians from crossing into pre-1967 Israel if they want to.
But Kershner’s most impressive effort at whitewash comes immediately, in the 4th paragraph. Here is her tortured sentence:
The decision to proceed with the demolition underscored the legal complexities and human difficulties caused by the absence of internationally recognized boundaries and competing authorities.
This sentence is a masterpiece of deceit. Here is what Kershner should have said: “Israel illegally occupies West Bank Palestine and refuses to negotiate borders. Even though the Palestinian Authority is supposed to be in charge of the area where Israel demolished the apartment buildings, and even granted building permits there, Israel simply overrode the P.A. and tore them down.”
Kershner’s euphemism about “human difficulties” is also repulsive. Her article continues, “By late afternoon, the police were still barring entry to the neighborhood to all nonresidents, including reporters.”

As this region grows, the share of non-USD transactions will inevitably increase which will likely erode the dollar’s “reserveness", even if the dollar isn’t replaced as the dominant international currency.

Coroner: No foul play suspected after man accused of decades-old sex crime dies in an Upstate jail
“SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (FOX Carolina) The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office said Monday that an inmate at the county jail died over the weekend.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger said Peter William Cooper, from Elmore, Alabama, first came to Spartanburg County on February 10, 2019. Deputies confirmed Cooper was arrested in Alabama and extradited to South Carolina after being charged for sex crimes that occurred during bible studies in the Upstate in the 1970s.
Clevenger says 64-year-old Cooper was moved to a medical pod due to complications prior to his death. Sometime over the weekend, Cooper was found unresponsive.
The Coroner's Office was contacted, and Cooper was later pronounced deceased on July 21 at 1:04 a.m.
An autopsy was performed the next day by both the coroner and State Law Enforcement. The results found that there did not appear to be any signs of foul play.
Cooper was awaiting trial on charges of lewd act on a minor in Spartanburg County and committing a lewd act upon a child less than 14 years of age in Greenville County.”

GENEVA (Reuters) - Iran observes all U.S. ships in the Gulf region and has an archive of images of their daily movements, the head of Iran’s navy, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, said on Tuesday, according to the Young Journalists Club news site.
Iran and the United States came to the brink of war last month after the Islamic Republic shot down a U.S. drone, nearly prompting a retaliatory attack which U.S. President Donald Trump called off at the last minute.
Tensions have also spiked between Iran and Britain after the Islamic Republic seized a British-flagged tanker last Friday because it had collided with a fishing vessel, according to Iranian officials.
British Royal Marines seized an Iranian tanker off the coast of Gibraltar in early July, accusing it of violating sanctions on Syria.
“We observe all enemy ships, particularly (those of) America, point-by-point from their origin until the moment they enter the region,” Khanzadi said, noting that images were recorded using Iranian drones.
“We have complete images and a large archive of the daily and moment-by-moment traffic of the coalition forces and America.”
Iran will hold joint naval exercises with allied countries for the first time by the end of the Iranian calendar year, which is in March 2020, Khanzadi said.
He did not specify which countries might take part in the exercise.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Elaborating on Iran’s drone capabilities in an interview with the Young Journalists Club (YJC) published on Tuesday, Khanzadi said the country monitors American ships in the Persian Gulf and has “complete images and a large archive of the daily and moment-by-moment movements” of the vessels belonging to the US and its allies.
“We can bravely declare that we observe all enemy ships, particularly Americans, point-by-point from their origin until the moment they enter the region,” he said, adding that Iran’s Armed Forces also possess information about the type of their missions and their conduct in the region.
Khanzadi also complained that enemy ships create “severe insecurity” by “aimless sailing and hypocritical behavior” in the region.
“Our drones monitor their ships and warships from their entry moment and the monitoring process continues until they sail into the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. Their behavior in the Persian Gulf, which is part of our identity and our backyard, is fully under watch based on international law and aviation regulations,” he said.
Today, he added, Iran manufactures drones as a low-cost piece of military equipment to keep watch on the region.
Asked about UAVs for intercontinental missions, the Iranian Navy chief said, “Yes, now we have this type of drones and will definitely use them if necessary.”
He also slammed the UK’s seizure of Iranian-owned supertanker Grace 1 in the Strait of Gibraltar on June 4, adding that the era of “bullying” in the sea is over, and that the interests and sovereignty of all nations should be respected.
He further referred to the June 19 unsafe maneuver by the British-flagged Stena Impero tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, which led to its detention by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
The British tanker, Khanzadi said, violated Iranian and International maritime law, entered the Strait of Hormuz from a busy exit lane, turned off its trackers, and had incomplete documents.
“Contrary to the Britons, the Iranian Armed Forces, including the Navy, acted within the Iran’s maritime law and international maritime rules” in the mutual ship detentions, he noted.
“The enemy observes us in some locations, but it is not capable of doing so some other places. The enemy should wait for a surprise from areas where it cannot see us,” he warned.
