Israel’s UN Ambassador Gilad on expected vote in the General Assembly: If UN grants the PA the rights of a state de facto, the US must stop funding the UN.
The UN General Assembly is expected to vote on Friday on a proposal that will grant the Palestinian Authority (PA) the rights of a state de facto.
The resolution would give the PA “the rights and privileges” to ensure its full and effective participation in the work of the General Assembly and other UN organs, “on equal footing with member nations.”
The PA’s initiative follows its failure to achieve full UN membership, after the US vetoed its bid at the UN Security Council.
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan, said in response to the expected vote, “The Palestinians are once again taking advantage of the automatic majority and the moral decay of the UN. After failing to obtain the status of a member state through the Security Council as required, they bypass the Council while trampling all the rules to bring the decision to the General Assembly.”

Cash is very efficient for small transactions. Cash transactions are immediate, flexible and anonymous. Cash does not need a password and can’t be hacked. The usefulness of cash is not dependent on technology that might break down – and sometimes does, creating huge problems.
A benefit of eliminating cash and moving to a digital economy, they claim, is combating crime. However, cash isn’t all that convenient for illicit transactions. It has the disadvantage for criminals of being small-scale. For large amounts of illicit transactions, you need to go digital.
The ideal medium for illicit drug commerce in 2014, for example, was – believe it or not – Amazon gift tokens. More recently, money launderers have used online gambling sites to disguise their shady funds. Cash on the other hand has allowed crimes to be discovered. Not least of all because, unlike digital, cash requires a face-to-face transaction. In 2021, a criminal ring attempting to launder money in Canada was caught when they tried to deposit large amounts of cash with a bank.

Harrison Faulkner investigated the UofT campus anti-Israel occupation last week to see what exactly was going on. Despite the tent encampment obviously breaking several laws, campus police have permitted the occupation to remain in tact. The reasons as to why this has been allowed to go on for so long are unknown.
The occupiers are strictly enforcing border measures of their territory and have set in place strict messaging control, only allowing media liaisons to speak to the press. When True North was finally let into the encampment, we were under the close supervision of a “media escort” who followed us everywhere we went and told us not to film any faces.
That was easy because everyone inside the encampment was masked as if it was 2021.

The Canadian Security and Intelligence Service issued a warning to the federal Public Safety Department addressing what the agency called a spike in “violent rhetoric” from “extremist actors” since the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel. Agency officials expressed fears that the rhetoric could escalate to violence.
The spy agency first consulted with the federal Public Safety Department and Muslim and Jewish leaders last fall about the rise in reported hate crimes which have been fueled by the conflict.
“While the long-term impacts of the current crisis cannot be easily predicted, it is clear that this conflict has raised tensions within our society,” wrote CSIS spokesman Eric Balsam, according to the Canadian Press.
“Violent rhetoric from extremist actors has increased since the attack by Hamas and, as the conflict continues to unfold, it is possible that these events could impact certain individuals’ intent to mobilize to violence.” Continue…

Unknown individuals trespassed Northvolt’s construction site at their future battery plant in Quebec, placing Molotov cocktails under some of the construction equipment.
“Fortunately, the devices didn’t go off. There is no damage,” said Northvolt CEO Paolo Cerruti.
The Swedish battery manufacturing giant previously began clearing land and destroying wetlands to build its new EV battery plant, sparking public outcry and raising questions about the environmental cost of green technologies.
“What these people want to achieve is to scare us, is to dissuade us from going forward. Well, they are obtaining exactly the opposite results,” said Cerruti.
He said Northvolt is more determined than ever to move forward and succeed.

This push comes amid broader economic strategies orchestrated by Beijing to bolster China’s position in the global market.

Toronto Police Service superintendent pleads guilty to helping Black officers cheat in promotions process

The first Black female to serve as superintendent with the Toronto Police Service has pleaded guilty to seven counts of professional misconduct for her role in providing six Black constables with answers to cheat on their promotions exam.
Supt. Stacy Clarke believed her efforts were justified because of the slow pace she saw in promoting Black candidates for promotions within the Toronto Police Service, her lawyer Joseph Markson argued during the tribunal hearing.
“As the first Black female superintendent in the history of the Toronto Police Service, Supt. Clarke has been running uphill and against the wind for more than 26 years,” said Markson.
“In these unique and extraordinary circumstances, there is a straight line in connecting systemic discrimination in policing towards Blacks, Supt. Clarke’s lived experience, and the facts of misconduct to which she had pled guilty. She is extremely remorseful for her misconduct. However those acts of misconduct were rooted in real despair, real hurt and real pain.”
Clarke pleaded guilty to all seven counts last fall after she was caught providing pictures with the answers to questions for officers in the promotional process, which included three counts of breach of confidence, three counts of discreditable conduct, and one count of insubordination.
All of the incidents occurred in 2021; she was promoted to superintendent the year before.
While her misconduct could merit a dismissal, TPS isn’t pushing for that. Continue…

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is once again defending controversial legislation which would give the province sweeping powers over municipalities, this time, by saying it could be used to stop non-citizens from voting in Calgary.
The Alberta government introduced Bill 20, the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, which would give cabinet power to fire city councillors and overturn bylaws. The proposed legislation comes as Calgary City Council passed a motion to allow non-citizens to vote in municipal elections last week.
Smith said that in “rare circumstances” the province needs to take a second look at city decisions that are unconstitutional or fall outside a municipality’s responsibility.
“That is simply not appropriate nor within their authority,” Smith said of Calgary’s motion to allow non-citizens to vote.
“Bill 20 will provide the province with a tool to deal with these rare but serious examples of municipal overreach.” Continue…

India’s foreign affairs minister says Canada welcomes their criminals

India’s Foreign Affairs Minister publicly accused Canada of welcoming criminals from his country, and criticized Canada’s handling of Sikh separatists.
This, according to Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, is part of what makes Canada “our biggest problem right now.”
His comments follow the RCMP laying charges in connection with the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent Sikh leader in Surrey, British Columbia, who was also linked with the Khalistan movement.
Nijjar’s murder has significantly strained Indo-Canadian relations, with accusations of political motivations on both sides.
“Somebody may have been arrested; the police may have done some investigation. But the fact is (a) number of gangland people, (b) number of people with organized crime links from Punjab, have been made welcome in Canada,” Minister Jaishankar said.

The bylaw initially required businesses to charge 15 cents for paper bags and one dollar for reusable bags. Additionally, it stipulated that food establishments should only provide napkins, cutlery, and condiments when requested by customers.
“I think the message has been sent out really clearly that we’re scrapping this and we’re starting again,” said Ward 3 Councillor Jasmine Mian, who spearheaded the motion to repeal the bylaw.
