Husband of California Democrat Rep. Linda Sanchez, Who Tried to Smear FBI Whistleblower, Sentenced to Prison in Connecticut Fraud Case

In a significant turn of events, the estranged husband of California Democrat Representative Linda Sanchez and former board chairperson of a Connecticut energy cooperative has been sentenced to prison in a Connecticut fraud case, AP reported.

James Sullivan, 56, was sentenced Wednesday to six months in prison after being convicted of involvement in a fraudulent scheme. The details of the fraud case reveal that he used public funds to pay for lavish trips to places like the Kentucky Derby and a high-end golf resort.

Sullivan is required to report to prison on July 12.

AP reported:

James Sullivan, 56, a one-time Democratic congressional candidate in Connecticut, was convicted of helping plan trips in 2015 and 2016 for dozens of top staff, board members and family members totaling $800,000. Prosecutors said the trips were unrelated to the business of the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative, which receives federal funding from the U.S. Department of Energy.

The $800,000 included travel expenses, private chartered airfare, first-class hotel accommodations, meals, tickets to sporting events, golf fees, souvenirs and gifts, federal prosecutors said.

For a trip to the Kentucky Derby trip in 2015, which prosecutors said had an average cost of approximately $9,000 per guest, Sullivan brought his son, brother and sister-in-law, as well as a woman he knew and her friend.

Sullivan is married to Democratic U.S. Rep. Linda Sanchez, who dropped her bid for chair of the House Democratic Caucus after Sullivan’s indictment in 2018. Connecticut court records indicate the couple is going through divorce proceedings.

A second case against Sullivan and the energy cooperative’s former CEO is still pending related to $100,000 of Sullivan’s personal and travel expenses, including several entries that included expenses for Sanchez, such as travel to the Kentucky Derby and to Key West, Florida, in 2014.

Amidst the ongoing fraud case, Rep. Sanchez also faces scrutiny over her alleged attempt to discredit an FBI whistleblower. Reports suggest that she sought to tarnish the whistleblower’s reputation by spreading false information and questioning the veteran’s allegiance to the United States.

Democratic Rep. Linda Sanchez of California is not among those who are happy about the testimony of the FBI whistleblowers.

As one of them testified before the House Judiciary Committee on the weaponization of the federal government Thursday, she resorted to basically pulling names out of a hat in order to trap him into tanking his credibility.

Marcus Allen, whose name just sounds common, found himself in Sanchez’s crosshairs as she tried to pin a random Twitter account on him.

Wagner Declares Full Capture Of Bakhmut After 224 Days Of Fighting

Head of the Russian private military group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has announced Saturday that after months of grinding warfare and heavy casualties, Russia has now taken full control of the strategic city of Bakhmut.

Prigozhin is announcing final victory and that Bakhmut has finally fallen. "The operation to capture Bakhmut lasted 224 days" he said in a video posted to Wagner's Telegram channel. "Today at noon, Bakhmut was fully captured," he declared.

Russian state media is also declaring "The key Donbass city of Artyomovsk, known as Bakhmut in Ukraine, has been fully liberated by the Russian forces...".

Prigozhin described that full capture of the city finally came when an area containing high-rise buildings where the final Ukrainian defensive holdout had a presence was conquered.

Western media reports have said they can't verify the claims, but headlines in Reuters and the Associated Press are widely reporting the Wagner chief's declaration of victory:

In a video posted on Telegram, Wagner head Yevgeny Prigozhin said the city came under complete Russian control at about midday Saturday. He spoke flanked by about half a dozen fighters, with ruined buildings in the background and explosions heard in the distance.

But the mainstream media reports are also highlighting Ukraine's rejection of claims that the city has finally fallen. Yet, as the AP underscores, Ukrainian officials have lately admitted the situation was already dire for their forces:

However, after the video appeared, Ukrainian deputy defense minister Hanna Maliar said heavy fighting was continuing.

“The situation is critical,” she said. “As of now, our defenders, control certain industrial and infrastructure facilities in this area.”

Serhiy Cherevatyi, spokesman for Ukraine’s eastern command, told The Associated Press that Prigozhin’s claim “is not true. Our units are fighting in Bakhmut.”

Encounters with undocumented illegal migrants have more than doubled in the past seven months on the NORTHERN U.S. border, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data.

The figures show that Border Patrol agents recorded 4,827 migrant encounters between October 2022 and April along the U.S.-Canadian border.

Through the entire fiscal year 2022, Border Patrol along the northern border encountered 2,238 illegals.

The data also shows that of the close to 5000 who have crossed around half were from Mexico. They flew to Canada (no visa required) and then walked across the border there.

Sean Walsh, National Border Patrol Council President for the Swanton sector in Vermont, New York and New Hampshire has noted “The northern border is less secure than it ever has been and the security speaks for itself.”

“If we’re losing twelve times the amount of people just in this fiscal year alone than in the whole last year, the cartels and criminal organizations have taken advantage and exploited the border and this administration’s policies or lack of policies to address security,” Walsh added.

In March, CBP transferred agents from the southern border to the Swanton section of the northern border in an attempt to deal with the increased numbers.

Biden To Green-Light Allies Transferring F-16s to Ukraine

Western leaders are developing a plan to deliver American-made fighter jets to Kiev

The US will allow its European partners to transfer F-16s to Kiev, according to the Washington Post. Earlier this week, the UK and Netherlands began forming a coalition to send the American-made fighter jets to Ukraine.

A person "familiar with the decision" told the Post that the White House informed its allies it would not block their plans to provide Kiev with F-16s. When Washington sells F-16s, the buyer must agree that the US government can block the planes from being transferred to a third country.

A senior administration official said the plan would include training "on fourth-generation fighter aircraft, including F-16s, to further strengthen and improve the capabilities of the Ukrainian Air Force."

The official continued, "As the training takes place over the coming months, our coalition of countries participating in this effort will decide when to actually provide jets, how many we will provide, and who will provide them," adding, "This training will take place outside Ukraine at sites in Europe and will require months to complete."

According to the officials, training could begin during the coming weeks. Defense officials have previously estimated that Ukrainian pilots could learn how to fly the F-16 in as little as six to nine months. While Colin Kahl, a senior Department of Defense official, told Congress the process will take up to two years and $11 billion for Ukraine to successfully deploy the fighter jet.

The US and UK have already started training a limited number of Ukrainian pilots on Western aircraft.

In January, during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Biden ruled out sending F-16s to Ukraine. Macron said Paris would only be open to transferring fighter jets to Ukraine if Kiev pledged not to carry out attacks on Russian soil.

In his many appeals for more advanced weapons from his Western partners, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has pledged not to use the weapons to attack Russian territory. However, that pledge does not extend to the Crimean Peninsula, annexed by Moscow in 2014. Additionally, documents included in the Discord Leaks showed Zelensky was plotting to attack Russia, notwithstanding his many promises.

Kari Lake’s attorney: Evidence of rushed ballot verification warrants overturning 2022 election

Lake fell about 17,000 votes short in the official count for the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election.

The trial brought by Kari Lake over questionable ballot counting and verification in her unsuccessful 2022 Arizona gubernatorial campaign concluded Friday with her lead attorney saying audit data on the processes shows “this election should be set aside.”

The trial lasted three days, with closing arguments on both sides focusing on whether there was mathematical evidence proving that Lake had actually won the election.

Lake fell about 17,000 votes short in the official count in her race against then-Secretary of State Hobbs.

She is suing Hobbs, the current Democratic governor, in addition to current Secretary of State Adrian Fontes (D) and Maricopa County election officials, requesting last year's election results be invalidated or that she be declared the winner.

In Lake attorney Kurt Olsen's closing arguments he referenced data from the plaintiff’s expert witness, Erich Speckin, who has 30 years of experience analyzing signatures to determine authorship.

Olsen said that based on the county data that Speckin analyzed, "approximately 274,000 ballots out of 1.3 million cast were compared and signature verified, purportedly, in less than three seconds a ballot. Seventy-thousand in less than two seconds a ballot. That's not signature comparison” as defined by Arizona statute.

Based on those numbers, “This election should be set aside,” he said.

Maricopa Attorney Thomas Liddy in his closing arguments challenged Olsen's conclusion based on the calculations.

“There’s no competent, mathematical calculation whatsoever to conclude that a sufficient number – even one ballot – was improperly counted, let alone that there’s a sufficient number of votes improperly counted so as to affect the election’s outcome were even rendered uncertain," he said.

He concluded, “Lake has proven that our election process in Arizona is neither a joke nor a fraud. It works, it works well, and Arizonans can vote and be confident their vote will be counted. I ask this court to again reconfirm Miss Lake’s – Miss Hobbs’ election as governor.”

Lake’s team called six witnesses to the stand, including county Elections Director Rey Valenzuela, before he testified on the defendants’ behalf on Thursday. The defense attorney's only witness was Valenzuela, who is also one of the defendants.

In Maricopa, the state's largest and most populous county, signature reviewers examine signatures on early vote ballot affidavit envelopes and compare them to signatures for the corresponding voters on the voter registration database to ensure that the registered voter cast the ballot.

"What people need to really stay focused on is this deep, deep level of corruption in our federal government, particularly starting in the White House," Flynn told NTD News' "Capitol Report" host Steve Lance.

Durham's report detailed corruption at the highest levels of the FBI to use a Clinton Campaign-funded propaganda dossier they knew was a hoax, in order to take down - and then smear, Donald Trump and his campaign.

The report concluded that "neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion" between the Trump campaign and Russia. The report also notes that on Aug. 3, 2016, a White House meeting between former President Obama, then-VP Joe Biden, former AG Loretta Lynch, then-CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey - where Brennan briefed those in the room about Clinton's plan to undermine Trump by tying him to Russian election interference efforts.

In response to the Durham report, the FBI said that it had taken corrective action to address the issued raised.

Flynn says it's BS.

"They weren’t missteps, those were criminal acts by the highest levels of people in our FBI and other elements and other people inside of the Department of Justice," he told NTD News. "And today that problem is not fixed. Look at what we’re learning from the whistleblowers."

Flynn then pointed to the FBI's plan to infiltrate Catholic churches and other organizations in order to root out "radical-traditionalist Catholic" ideology, after a document was leaked from the FBI's Richmond Field Office describing the endeavor. The agency has since disavowed the record, saying that it "does not meet the exacting standards" of the bureau.

"This assault on Catholics, as an example—that’s just one example, the assault on Catholics and on the Latin Mass. I mean, that little thing alone that’s out of the Richmond office of the FBI, by the special agent in charge there," said Flynn. "These are not things that are minor things. These are big, big deals. That’s just one example, you know, in addition to the politicization and the weaponization of the FBI that’s being additionally brought out by these whistleblowers, and it’s still ongoing."

Flynn thinks both FBI Director Chris Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland are unfit to serve.

According to a brief Boston biography published in the Globe, Mueller’s Boston associates remember their time with him and testify to his skills as a prosecutor and his reputation for seriousness.

He was also running the FBI when the agency caught Whitey Bulger in 2011, and he oversaw the FBI’s investigation into the Boston Marathon bombings. As luck would have it, he’s the commencement speaker at the Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, where he’ll be speaking on May 29.

Artyomovsk, also known as Bakhmut, has been captured, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed

The Russian troops have completely liberated the strategic Donbass city of Artyomovsk, the scene of a grueling battle for many months, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed in the early hours of Sunday.

The operation in the city known to Ukrainians as Bakhmut wasexecuted by the “offensive actions” of the private military company Wagner Group with artillery and air support from regular Russian forces, the MOD said.

The statement from the MOD came hours after Wagner chief Evgeny Prigozhin announced on social media that his fighters had taken complete control of the city.

Ukraine has denied that the city had fallen to the Russians. Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar claimed that the statements about the capture of Artyomovsk were “premature.”

A salt mining city with a pre-conflict population of 72,000, Artyomovsk has become the stage of a bloody battle for many months as Russian forces nearly encircled it and were methodically pushing the Ukrainian army from its western suburbs.The city itself has been largely destroyed during the fighting.

Prigozhin warned earlier this month that his soldiers were taking heavy casualties due to ammunition shortages. He later said that the situation with supplies had improved and that Wagner troops were clearing the last pockets of Ukrainian resistance.

More than 1000 women join class action over permanent contraceptive device

A class action is continuing in the Supreme Court of Victoria, after more than 1000 women claimed to have fallen victim to a permanent contraceptive device.

The Essure coil device, which was once hailed as a medical breakthrough, was placed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods in 1999.

In 2014, the reporting of adverse effects emerged and in a statement to A Current Affair, a Therapeutic Goods Administration spokesperson said "the TGA [had] received 114 reports associated with the Essure device," as of 13 April 2023.

"The reports have included adverse events such as changes in menstrual bleeding, unintended pregnancy, chronic pain, perforation, migration of the device and allergy/hypersensitivity or immune-type reactions."

In February 2018, Essure was removed from the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods.

Kylie Trounson is leading the team from Slater and Gordon as they take on pharmaceutical giant Bayer.

"It's a device that should never have been designed, it should never have been released, it should never have been put in a woman's body," Trounson said.

Bayer argues it is not liable for the adverse effects, instead blaming the medical practitioners who implanted the device.

Virgin Orbit has received a $17 million bid for its aircraft assets from the hypersonic vehicle company Stratolaunch, according to new court filings released Tuesday (May 16).

Virgin Orbit, which filed for bankruptcy in early April after it failed to secure long-term funding, and Stratolaunch, the builder of the world's biggest airplane, called Roc, entered what's called a "stalking horse bid," which is a term used for an initial bid on a bankrupt company's assets.

Such an agreement leaves the door open for competing offers from other interested parties — including bids for assets that Stratolaunch is eyeing — but locks in the floor price.

The $17 million bid by Stratolaunch, an aerospace company that was started in 2011 by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and later bought by Cerberus Capital Management, focuses on Virgin Orbit's modified 747-400 Boeing aircraft called Cosmic Girl as well as related assets needed to operate the plane. Cosmic Girl is known for carrying Virgin Orbit's LauncherOne rocket into the sky, then dropping it at an altitude of about 35,000 feet (10,700 meters), at which point the rocket fires up its onboard motor to get to space.

LauncherOne enjoyed a streak of four consecutive successful launches that was broken by a failure during its latest mission, which lifted off from Spaceport Cornwall in England this past January.

Virgin Orbit "negotiated with Stratolaunch extensively" over multiple rounds across weeks to nail down the terms of the agreement, according to Tuesday's court filing. Those "hard-fought negotiations" resulted in the $17 million bid in cash from Stratolaunch, which has not yet publicly announced its bid. The aerospace company will deposit the amount in escrow immediately if the deal goes through, according to CNBC's Michael Sheetz.

The failure of Virgin Orbit's January 2023 mission, called "Start Me Up," resulted in the loss of nine customer satellites and was likely a factor on the company's road to the bankruptcy filing. (A month-long investigation into the failure confirmed that a dislodged fuel filter within LauncherOne was to blame, and a modified design was incorporated into the next rocket slated to fly later this year, company representatives said in a statement last month).

On April 4, not long after it failed to secure long-term financing, Virgin Orbit, which was already operating at a $50.5 million loss, furloughed all but 100 employees and filed for bankruptcy. A month later, the company announced that more than 30 parties showed interest in continuing to operate the business and retain the remaining staff, according to a company statement on May 8.

"I'm pleased with the number and quality of the indications of interest we’ve received, which we believe reflects the innovative ideas and hard work the team has put into the development of this unique system," Virgin Orbit's CEO Dan Hart said in that statement.

In early 2022, Hart had spoken of LauncherOne's potential to go beyond launching small satellites. He said there was some interest in the market in using the air-launch system as a boost stage for hypersonic vehicles, similar to the ones being developed by Stratolaunch, which will carry them to altitude using Roc. Stratolaunch conducted its first drop test with the giant plane and a separation test vehicle last weekend and aims to perform a bona fide hypersonic test later this year.

"We're aware there have been some booster issues in the hypersonic research arena," Hart said at the time. "It's likely an area we can help with."

The deadline for final bids for Virgin Orbit's sale is Friday (May 19). If there is more than one company bidding for the company's assets, a bankruptcy auction will take place on May 22. The final hearing on the company's sale in the Delaware Court, where its bankruptcy was initially filed, is scheduled for May 24.

So all of us understand here the depths of this mission.”

“Food systems themselves contribute a significant amount of emissions just in the way in which we do the things we’ve been doing,” he continued. “With a growing population on the planet – we just crossed the threshold of 8 billion fellow citizens around the world – emissions from the food system alone are projected to cause another half a degree of warming by mid-century.”

The Japanese government is planning to urge companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's top-tier Prime market to have at least one woman executive by 2025 as the country lags behind other advanced economies in corporate gender equality. A panel under the Cabinet Office will soon compile a proposal suggesting a numerical target should be part of TSE listing rules. The government will include the target in its policy guidelines on women's advancement to be unveiled in June. It will likely be a nonbinding goal.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in April set a goal of having women account for 30% of executives at Prime-listed companies by 2030. Setting an interim goal for 2025 would help spur action among companies, the thinking goes. The government will also urge companies to draw up action plans to meet those targets.

Japan targeted having women account for 12% of executives, including directors, corporate auditors and executive officers, by 2022 at companies listed on the TSE's first section, which has now been reorganized into the Prime market. But Japan Inc. fell short, with the ratio coming to 11.4% for Prime-listed companies as of July, according to the Cabinet Office. Companies listed on the Prime with no women executives totaled 18.7%, with only 2.2% clearing the 30% target. Because a marketwide target could result in disparities among companies, the government plans to push for individual targets as well. The gap with Western peers remains wide. As of 2022, women accounted for 45.2% of executives at top French companies, 40.9% in the U.K., 37.2% in Germany and 31.3% in the U.S., according to the Cabinet Office. Some countries have laws or listing rules requiring women in boardrooms. The U.K. requires listed companies to have women account for at least 40% of board members.

Firefighters in North Carolina rescued at least 15 people including a crane operator Thursday after a five-alarm fire involving injuries broke out at a construction site near downtown Charlotte.

Crews with the Charlotte Fire Department responded to a structure fire call sometime before 10 a.m. ET in the city's SouthPark neighborhood. About 10:30 a.m., the department tweeted it was on scene of a four-alarm fire on Liberty Row Drive and was asking people to avoid the area. The fire was later upgraded to five alarms as it required more assistance from outside agencies due to its size.

The crane operator, among the 15 people rescued by firefighters, was treated by local EMS for non life-threatening injuries and taken to a hospital, fire officials reported.

As of mid Thursday afternoon, the department said, two construction workers were unaccounted for.

As of about 3:45 p.m. ET, crews remained on scene and it was not immediately known if anyone else was injured.

Photos tweeted by the department show flames and heavy black smoke shooting out of what appears to be a residential building under construction as crews attempt to battle the blaze.

The area is about six miles south of downtown Charlotte.

The blaze also involved a building in a construction zone which partially collapsed, the Charlotte Observer reported.

For more than an hour, firefighters were attempting to help the crane operator trapped on a construction crane surrounded by the blazing structure, the outlet reported, citing emergency radio. The man was reported safe shortly before 11 a.m.

Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday night celebrated the 75th anniversary of Israel's independence at an event hosted by the Consulate General of Israel to the Southwest in Houston.

Israel declared independence and officially became a country on May 14, 1948.

The governor and other dignitaries commemorated Israeli independence as the country was bombarded with 1,000 rockets over a five-day period. Egyptian authorities negotiated a ceasefire among the leaders of Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group after Israeli Defense Forces killed three PIJ commanders in northern Gaza, the Jewish Chronicle reported.

The violence that occurred last week was a continuation of attacks Israeli endured last month after 34 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon by the Iran-backed terrorist group, Hezbollah, on the first day of Passover.

Giving the keynote address to over 300 attendees, Abbott took aim at former President Barack Obama. While on his first trip to Israel, he said he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and “talked about the … threats to freedom in Israel and during that visit we shared our concerns about the deal that then President Obama was making with Iran,” referring to the Obama administration transferring $1.7 billion to Iran reportedly over a dispute dating to the 1970s.

“Let me tell you something,” Abbott said, “it is against our interest to do deals with countries that call for death to America and show hostility to Israel. Actions often speak louder than words. Iran said a lot when it fired two ballistic missiles with Hebrew written on it saying, ‘Israel should be wiped off the earth.’”

“As long as Iran is a threat to Israel, Iran is a threat to Texas,” he said.

“We backed that up when we banned taxpayer-funded investment in Iran,” he continued. “We banned Texas government entities from contracting with companies that do business in Iran. In Texas, we don’t do business with regimes that seek to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, period.”

In 2017, Abbott signed HB 89 into law banning state contracts with and investments in companies that boycott Israel. Within two years of the law going into effect, Texas began divesting $72 million worth of stock held by two state pension funds in a Norwegian financial services firm due to its anti-Israel policies.

Abbott also highlighted several kinds of partnerships and similarities between Israel and Texas, including their “shared entrepreneurial spirit.”

He also touted Texas’ ongoing economic success, noting its top business ranking, it’s top job growth records, its top state for business ranking 19 years in a row, and Texas leading all states for exports for 21 years, including its export and trade relationship with Israel.

Texas exported nearly $1 billion worth of goods to Israel in 2022, according to the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise. Since 1996, Texas has exported nearly $21 trillion to Israel, it says.

A Supreme Court justice has labeled the avalanche of covid lockdown measures imposed across America as among 'the greatest intrusions on civil liberties in the peacetime history of this country'.

Justice Neil Gorsuch delivered an excoriating review of the restrictions enforced at both a state and federal level by executive officials.

In a statement written as part of a Supreme Court case about Title 42, Gorsuch said emergency decrees were issued during the pandemic 'on a breathtaking scale'.

'Governors and local leaders imposed lockdown orders forcing people to remain in their homes. They shuttered businesses and schools, public and private,' he wrote.

'They closed churches even as they allowed casinos and other favored businesses to carry on. They threatened violators not just with civil penalties but with criminal sanctions too.' ...

Special Counsel John Durham’s final report on the origins of the Russian collusion hoax (also known as Obamagate) document the single greatest dirty trick in the history of American politics and government; an abuse of power in which the full authority and extraordinary intelligence capabilities of the United States government were illicitly and illegally used to remove a duly elected President — Donald J. Trump — from office.

Specifically Durham’s report says, “What the FBI knew from its intelligence collections as of early 2017. As the record reflects, as of early 2017, the FBI still did not possess any intelligence showing that anyone associated with the Trump campaign was in contact with Russian intelligence officers during the campaign.”
