Not typo. Original sauce was Posted 10-DEC-2013.

–

>posted Flickr pic. Says taken on 29DEC. It’s likely this is an unintentional error and that it was merely posted on that date. Not taken.

Good catch. Unfortunately the sauce dating makes it ambiguous, i.e. dating vs content.

Here is a different example of same problem (at least for our purposes) using stock photo. Posted date far off taken date. Ambiguity is sometimes not critical but sometimes it is the fly in the soup.

AND useful reference re road traffic and pedestrian traffic. The date taken would not have been close to the date of install/ teardown of the Snow Globe. This photo shows the streets that would have had vehicular traffic coming nd going into the Q pics. For the wide angle, the camera was on the corner, statue side, and in front of the pedestrian crossing captured in the Q pics. That is why it is a useful reference, I think. Not sure about time of day but can Anons determine? And is time of day a Q match or not?

I could be wrong. The Coventry decorations might actually be there by 28NOV after all. Now that I look more closely at their location vis a vis that theatre sign on Coventry. I see something faint but where the decorations are seen more brightly lit in the 30NOV pic.

So possibly up by 28NOV.

Significance of the close-ups in that group of pics?

At the top of a pedestrian traffic lights post there was a white box ontop which looked like a camera or a transmitter. Whatever it was, it was not there prior to changes that came AFTER the RED BUS pic had been taken.

Was not there in the NOV vids.

Not there in RED BUS.

Not there all the way back to MAY 2012.

Present in the 23-MAR-2014 stock photo during the starts of demolition of building in background in RED BUS.

Searching for images that show the top of this light set during the narrowed time interval i.e. late November 2013 to early January 2014.

What was this white box? Ideas or examples, frens? Functinality?

Note that in the 23-MAR-2014 stock photo, the green light was lit even though the post had been lifted out of its position. This lifting might have been necessary to make room for cranes or other vehicles that were moved into place for the demolition. Interdasting that it remained powered up and perhaps still controlled pedestrian traffic.

Emergency vehicles send a signal to device to give them the GREEN light and cross traffic a RED light.

I think you have temporarily confused the pedestrian signals with the traffic go/no go lights. Still the Rouge pitot and Vetde marchant lights symbols.

Pic related.

Cap from APR-2012

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygKjxoHoiAo

0:38 view of CB doorway and the side windows/

An interesting ref point: note the sign on the steakhouse at corner of Coventry and Haymarket, in the vid snip from APR-2012, was different than in the Q pic we now understand to have been taken winter 2013-2014. The background of the restaurant sign was gray in 2012 but black in Q pic. So that provided a bookend of AFTER summer of 2012. After this compilation was released, we narrowed the Q time interval by more than a year, to winter 2013/2014.

0:56 snip from APR-2012 showed gud view of the corner on Coventry Street that was captured in the background (left) of RED BUS pic. Not a Q match but gud ref for location and confirmation of the street signs/lights, McDonald's, and little ticket kiosk all of which were in the Q pic but with updates.

This compilation vid shows the RED BUS area (and sometimes Piccadilly Circus) across a time span of 2011 to 2014 and nails the location for new eyes. Even shows a gud candidate for the actual Red Bus, altho not parked at same spot as in Q pic.

Gud for new eyes, yes, to show Q pics not 2015/2016 but couple years prior. Gud for reviewing also when looking for new markers to scrutinize.

Unfortunately, the current GooMaps no longer shows certain images from 2012 and 2014 that provide gud baseline at street level for the Q pics of Piccadilly Circus and Coventry.

Fortunately, those images were captured in the following video recording of GooMaps; in this vid the SV images are compared with open sauce vid of 2014.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt_fvCa4024

Incidentally shows that the white direction street sign on CB side of Coventry did not have a sticker on it by MAR 2014.

Also an SV version of a reverse view of the Q pics which show the Q camera position. Also captured the "easter egg" - the LG G2 ad board . These images are gone from SV GooMaps today.

London Transport Closures Over Christmas And New Year

NOV-2013

https://londonist.com/2013/11/london-transport-closures-over-christmas-and-new-year

Last trip during late night Christmas Eve; down Christmas Day; first trip during morning Boxing Day.

And, if speculation about layovers due to poor weather amount to anything, here are the airport details.

Airport Links

Gatwick Express: If you're planning on using London Gatwick over the holidays, be advised that no trains will operate between East Croydon and the airport from 25 December till 1 January inclusive, because of major engineering works. That means no Gatwick Express and no First Capital Connect services. Instead, you need to get a Southern train from East Croydon to East Grinstead, where frequent buses will take you the rest of the way. The circuitous route will add an estimated 70-90 minutes to journey times.

Heathrow Connect: Normal service with early closure on Christmas Eve. No services will run on 25 and 26 December. Normal service thereafter.

Heathrow Express: Services close before 10pm on Christmas Eve. No services will run on 25 and 26 December. A half-hourly service will run 27 December to 1 January, with normal service resuming on 2 January.

Stansted Express: A reduced service on Christmas Eve evening. No trains on 25 December. Half-hourly trains 26-27 December. 28-29 December normal service but with a diversion. Trains are back to normal thereafter, but look out for engineering works through January weekends.

Thameslink (Luton and Gatwick): See First Capital Connect and Gatwick Express above.

>No overhead street decorations

24-NOV-2013-T

>Old Bus sign at KFC

24-NOV-2013-T

Okay, to the previous evidence now add the following newly found pic.

https://www.coffeeandvanilla.com/moving-to-brighton/

Sauce, Posted 8-JAN-2014 but taken weeks earlier. Yeh, unfortunately this new pic shows no taken on date, but we can still work with it.

The decorations were up and the snow globe was intact.

So, pre-23-DEC-2013.

AND post-24-NOV-2013.

PLUS the bus stop is the OLD version.

This provides a sequence in which the bus stop sign was changed AFTER the decorations had gone up and (as we assumed) BEFORE the snow globe was damaged.

Could have changed after the wind storm, I suppose, however … NOT BEFORE the crew installed the lights over Coventry Street.

Put these three markers on the same date and that would be the earliest that the Q pic could have been taken.

(Provided that the KFC's two awnings were retracted also, which would depend on moar evidence to confirm retracted.)

At this point my concern about whether or not the fastenings were loaded with the decorations is now moot. The decorations preceded the change in bus sign to the new version captured in the Q pic.

We can assume (pending moar evidence) that the NOT AFTER date for the Piccadilly Pics is Boxing Day (or a few days after) based on the 75% sale signs which appear "just so" along with the Christmas themed window displays; and further assume that THAT would be the NOT AFTER bookend for Red Bus as well. Yeh, we could assume one thing on another thing.

But we need evidence that dates each pic independently or which definitely connects the pics together tightly. Right now we do have a few pass-through vids that show markers that are key to dating all three of these pics, and that's very gud, yet that does not narrow the time interval for Red Bus.

We have moved the NOT BEFORE bookend for Red Bus to an undetermined date AFTER the decorations went up but BEFORE the Snow Globe went down. So Red Bus was taken not before a date within 24-NOV-2013 and 23-DEC-2013. Its not after date is a different matter.

The canopies over the windows might be the key marker at this point. Direct evidence is needed, I think.

All that said, the time intervals have become more and more narrow as we slog along. Kewel.

Keep in mind that the little ticket kiosk in vid of 24-NOV-2013-T showed a pretty gud Q match.

And that flank of the kiosk definitely changed by late Mar-2014. The change appears to have been a large half-price Sale sign with white lettering on black background. So keep your eyes open for that change too.

Interdasting story about overhead street decorations being damaged during the wind storm. The story's pic showed fire truck doing repairs and inspections. To reach that height a lift of some sort would have been needed for install and tear down.

Story posted on 27-DEC-2013-P.

Prolly taken the day before, 28-DEC-2013.

The location might have caused a much reduced flow of vehicular traffic on the 28th; and that plausibly could have impacted flow at Piccadilly in the Q pic scene.

Might be worth a search of City records for report on this; prolly prompted City crew (or contractor) inspections of decorations hung over streets. The windy weather took its toll, apparently.

Sauce

https://metro.co.uk/2013/12/27/dangerous-christmas-decorations-shut-down-londons-regent-street-4243288/

Christmas bargain hunters were prevented from walking along part of London’s Regent Street after it was closed due to ‘unsecure’ decorations hanging down to street level.

High winds that whipped through the capital from the recent storms had loosened some of the festive décor, forcing the authorities to section off the part of the main shopping thoroughfare that meets Conduit Street.

The TfL (Transport for London) traffic news Twitter account had posted a picture that showed a fire engine on Regent Street.

A firefighter was hoisted up in a cherry picker to examine the decorations before carrying out emergency repairs.

We have evidence for night time on 24-NOV and daytime on 28-NOV that shows no decorative lights overhead on Coventry on a Sunday night and the first appearance (so far documented) on a Thursday (morning?). This would narrow the dates of installation to an interval of 25-27 NOV 2013.

Then, after that interval, the bus stop sign was changed between 28-NOV and 31-DEC-2013.

Process of elimination = prolly not done Christmas week, almost certainly not on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day.

Somewhat speculatively, that would leave the last 3 days of NOV and the first 23 days of December 2013. And prolly can also eliminate the weekends during those weeks, which would leave something like the week days in the calendar attached here.

As early as 29-NOV.

As late as 23-DEC.

And the new bus sign might have appeared for the first time during week days in-between those dates. Which pretty much eliminates NOV-2013.

The sign replacement is necessary to provide a Q match. Going out on a bit of a limb, we could move the NOT BEFORE bookend to 2-DEC-2013.

More conservatively, we have evidence that it was not in place on 24-NOV-2013 which moves bookend to 25-NOV-2013.

We are still left with searching NOV-DEC for views of the bus stand and its sign post.

Do we have a firm NOT AFTER date for Red Bus? Mid-to-late JAN 2014, decorations taken down based only on indirect evidence such as schedule and other years. The ticket kiosk still holds out potential to move that bookend. As might the police viewing platform (assuming the Red bus pic was taken before NYE).

Any other possibilities, frens?

Anons, do you notice anything different in these two store displays? They appear to be taken of the same "window". See blue stencil artwork on the left part of the window to verify. I had made a note of it a while back but with the on/off locked breds sometimes I am prevented from "seeing something and saying something" right away, and then it slips my mind.

Please allow an anon let their imagination run wild here for a moment. What if the added "snow" was found art? What if a nearby "art project" had a bit of a setback with their display? And found themselves in possession a large quantity of artificial snow of no use to them anymore? You help them by taking a portion of it off their hands, you give it a new purpose by using it in one of your store displays. A win-win situation for everyone, right?

The view of the distant street past Haymarket is not as clear as would need to qualify the evidence of overhead decorations as FIRM. But it is very nearly so. Here is an enlargement. I have not seen any object at that height reaching across Coventry other than those Christmas lights. Not even a double decker bus. So, yeh, could be made more firm and still very compelling evidence.

More concerned with the dating on a stock photo, which means need corroboration anyway.

That said, in that pic there are decorations on Regent but not yet on Shaftesbury. This suggests the crews were in the middle of getting the installations completed in this part of the City. That fits well with our more firm evidence thusfar.

So not firm, very compelling, and even if the decorations were not in place over Coventry, the overall installation was incomplete when the wide angle stock photo was snapped.

It is a gud idea to test the notion, fren, and see if it is weak in light of references and such. TY.

Here is a cap from SV-DEC-2022 (winter images in SV are not common) that show decorations up. The camera is mounted on top of a van so the perspective is different than the wide-angle stock photo; taking that into account I think we have a gud comparison that suggests (to me) that the wide angle captured at least some decorations strung across Coventry.

The Regent lights were also up in SV-DEC-2022; and Piccadilly lights, too; but not Shaftesbury lights, at that time that year. Similar pattern to DEC-2013 in that regard.

No matter how the change/s occurred, the differences provide evidence of a sequence within the CB window display. Seems to me that the "snow" on the surface is like a carpet; it was clearly laid out with a red pathway (Pall-Mall-ish) and then the props were re-arranged and another bit of carpet was used to cover the pathway. Now, sure, the sequence might have been the reverse. But that is a sequence, this way or that way.

And it may have shown up within a tight interval during mid to late Christmas 2013. Outside and above the shop windows the little trees might stake the order in which this sequence was displayed.

In the UKBreds we all have probably thought at some point that we have done enough to narrow the dating of each London pic, each series, and the whole collection. Close enough.

And perhaps this CB dig has reached that point? We seem to have reached a two-week interval around the week of Christmas, again, as we did with WW and EMB and CH and LisaMI6. Maybe not as narrow with Black Box.

What say you, Anons, close enough?

Revisiting "The Communications Building" (misnamed Communications House in some of my previous posts).

Two Alamy stocks show the small ticket kiosk from almost the same angle as seen in Red Bus. (See next post.)

Another Alamy stock shows the west side entrance to the building, prior to the demoliton. There were two plaques that named the building and these appeared on either side of the entrance. A third circular plaque was affixed to the north side of the entrance and it marked the historical fact that a portrait painter lived in a house on that site back the 1700s.

Another interesting feature was the set of wings over this West entrance. Do UK Anons know the background of that symbol? The infographic includes an SV image from JUL-2012.

Alamy DXC47W, Window of McDonalds on the day demolition began shows "We're closed" sign which suggests closed sometime before this day, natch. Redirects customers to another site.

Have not seen such a sign in Red Bus.

Interesting Alamy stock that was taken 9-FEB-2014 more than a month before demolition. The top of the building is a Q-match.
