The show has been written by Mike Vogel since Return of Harmony. Every single episode has been executed under his ideas, he's the creative vision. He didn't even let the original design for Discord to go through.

Apparently "Hasbro at the helm" was some douchebag executive stealing every script and pretending he's a writer. While everyone either couldn't do shit without getting sued or was too much of a pussy to give us a name, for 6 fucking years.

There's an easy trick to figure out if an episode is good: it involves characters that actually confront a shortcoming and develop from it. the bad ones are ones where they don't learn crap except moaning about their shortcomings (like Spike)

This. Twilight's physical growth into an alicorn did not parallel any social growth she underwent. Even if you count three entire first three seasons as part of her growth which I dont because many episodes addressed stories and shortcomings not related to her social autism it still wouldnt have been enough to justify her becoming an alicorn. There was no great lesson learned, no mountain overcome, and she certainly didnt adopt a change in attitude to indicate that she had evolved as a person pony person post-MMM.

I agree that it is too forced. if I were the writer, i would've done it like this:

allow more growth and do it at the end of the 4th season, while leading ponies against Tirek while the other princesses are captured (and of course gave their magic to her, since she is the only unicorn capable of handling alicorn magic). it would've been great to see her struggle with the concept of "with great power comes great responsibility", abuse of power and so forth.
