Welp, after we're done nursing our butthurt over last week they hit us with a Spike episode. Now, more recent episodes have bucked the trend for being complete shit but this "Spike gets in way over his head trying to fix a problem that really didn't need fixing" premise smacks a little too much of Princess Spike for my tastes, but I've been wrong before. I guess there's only one way to find out.

It would be funny if his fears turned out to be completely justified, and the two of them hate each other's guts. Beforehand Twilight would have tried to reasonably convince him that everything would be fine. The show ends with Thorax and Ember threatening to curb stomp one another and Twilight and Spike worrying that they accidentally started a war. Black humor FTW.

I just hope that it is not like the Rarity Trilogy in Season Five just after the hiatus when, for an all-too brief few weeks it seemed like the old show was back again. But hey, this season has only really had one bad episode so far, and the direction that the new staff has taken has been a good one. Here's hoping it sticks.

Seems to continue the trend this season of S tier presentation of tired old plotlines.

If nothing else it at least had more of side characters we were in danger of never seeing again. Now if only Zecora were able to be in more than 3 episodes total.

Ember is way too cute. I also enjoyed the meta joke about Twilight and Starlight being the same pony. This one had serious potential to be a shitfest but managed to avoid it, so I give it a 7/10 just for that.

It's a mediocre-tier episode, which is better than the shit-tier episode I thought it would be.

But I still absolutely hate episodes of anything when the sole conflict exists because a character won't just act like a normal person and tell the truth. It's that tired old 'liar revealed' trope, and I hate it.

Ember smushing Derpy's muffin was cute though, as well as Ember confusing Twilight and Glimmer.

Why is everyone yelling and panicking like a forced retard? I can accept the obnoxious yelling, but not the cringeworthy melodrama over nothing/nuproblems like keeping Twilight not finding a "friendship" problem. This latest episode and every episodes like this are a complete snore fest to sit through because of how badly its executed. The idea is beyond common and cliche, but I've seen infinitely better executions to it compared to the one current retard writing for MLP.

And I thought they dropped the element of friendship in favor of the element of magic. Since season 1 episode 2. The lessons were mandated crap anyway by the executives in charge, so why did they make fun of a dumb idea they themselves came up with? Are they this stupid and hypocritical that they conveniently forgot who was to blame for it?

Why did everything turn into a "friendship" problem? The idea was to get rid of the nonsensical aesops, not make them worse.

Damn, not much went right in this episode. The only legitimate laugh happened when Ember could not tell the difference between Twilight and Starlight. I did get a bit of a grin when Thorax was acting like one of those needy, whiny friends who want to tell you all about every little meaningless thing that ever happened to them. Apart from that, though, there really wasn't much to recommend this one. It was a whole lot of tropes that you see coming from a mile away.

Fuck it would've been so easy to write a better episode. Hell, one small change would've made all the difference too. Could have had it so that Spike invited both leaders to talk about international alliances or because he simply wanted to hang out with his two new friends, the map then calls him up and Spike then assumes that he made a mistake by inviting both at the same time, hence the map is to blame for Spike's meltdown, thus sparing his character needless humiliation. Or better yet, have it so the two freaking leaders don't get along and have it be so its up to Spike to stop a grand race war. But nooooo, we can't have good shit apparently. This will probably be the last time he's called by the map too. Fuck this shit and fuck the shippers.
