I have a lot of dirt on Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Brave, Epic Privacy Browser, Mozilla Firefox, Waterfox, Tor, Falkon, Opera, Iridium and Dissenter.
The problem is not limited to just those web browsers, but ALL web browsers. All the mainstream and alternative browsers.
Every single web browser out there is tracking users.
Every single web browser out there is collecting data on users.
Every single web browser out there continues to track users even in "safe mode" !!
Every single web browser out there continues to collect data in "safe mode" !!
I want you all to know every browser on the web cannot be considered "private" or safe to use. There are ways to reverse all this for every browser, although it is not very convenient or user-friendly [and no, I'm not talking about changing browser settings lol].
Although this will not be a full exposé for every single browser on the web, what I provide will give a whole lot of clues to how modern web browsers hide users' personal data and keep on collecting it.
I'm also releasing this so tech savvy teams who create software like Bleachbit also take action to upgrade their privacy software so users have the option to wipe ALL their personal crud off their operating systems. Most of this stuff should be erased when users choose to "clean their internet history" yet all these caches still exist loaded up with user data hidden within the OS.

What I do is use Bleachbit but manually include those caches as custom files to wipe out after every browser session. Is there a better privacy tool to use or one that can be trusted to wipe most of this crap out?
Also tried the newest Bleachbit and it doesn't seem to work, so I went back to using the older one I have backed up.

This thread is stupid as anyone that cares about their privacy online doesn't use Windows. Especially not an older version with a few scripts or programs that are supposed to make it secure by changing a few options.
If you want to see a good example of how to check for spying by web browsers look at how spyware.neocities.org/articles/ does their checks. Some cached files on your system isn't indicative of spying and you can easily run any web browser in a ram drive if leaving a trace of your web history on your computer worries you.
Bleachbit will ignore your email as the option for clearing the cache of most web browsers already exists in that software.

I too have a Linux OS and know where and how to wipe the caches out from there, but I also use Windows 7 (better modified w/ bloatware removed) because it supports software that Linux can't use properly (even with Wine). My Windows PC is not a "personal" system, I have no personal info in it not even the user name. I typically use it for p2p/torrents & shitposting.
I know some people here may know this but certainly not everyone. Most people I have personally told this to had no clue about all this.

How the fuck does building a cache amount to spying on you? It's only on your hard drive and if you are really as worried about your privacy as you say your hard drive is encrypted anyway.
Or do you have any actual proof that data from the cache is uploaded to whatever endpoints, like wireshark logs? If not you probably just don't understand how a browser works. It needs a cache to function, how the hell is it supposed to show you a website if it isn't cached somewhere? Sure, you could have your browser session all in your RAM, but what do users do that don't have much RAM or simply want to have a persistent browser cache so they can actually revisit stuff?
I mean there are many bad things you can say about google, the mozilla foundation and many others, but nothing of that has actually to do with the actual browser cache.

Well they're helping to enable the spying at least. When you go from one server or another all those other sites and third parties also can see your web history. It is how they continue to make billions a year off internet users via data collection. If you routinely wipe all the cache, the browser will come back the next session without any logs or history. Any third parties won't see that past history either if you wipe it out and reboot the browser. I wipe this crap out after every browser session. Each time I have a new browser session there is only a small time fragment of cached history the websites I go to would be able to see.

If you actually look up how they track users through sites like Panopticlick you'll see that clearing your web browser's cache does almost nothing to prevent tracking.
Unless you're using a fresh browser install on every site you visit they can track you with numerous methods. The custom fonts loaded through javascript or using flash are popular methods that can't be prevented by clearing a cache. And that's just two out of over a hundred techniques that don't rely on any locally stored cache.
The biggest issue by far is the ISP and their default DNS that logs everything you do, even if you had a perfect browser you're still being tracked. I really don't see what the purpose of this thread is as it's making much ado about an almost irrelevant issue in the grand scheme of things. Chances are most people reading this thread have willingly installed dozens of programs on their computers that sends logs of every web site they visit to advertising companies.
Visit spyware.neocities.org/articles/ to see how prevalent this is. The web browser is the least of your worries.

If you use VPN > Tor > VPN then you're doing pretty well otherwise the guy hosting the Tor exit node is getting to see every site you visit. If you've got the bandwidth to spare host a Tor exit node yourself to see what kind of traffic goes through it, along with the pedos you might get diplomats and spies uploading confidential information. Several news stories about this happening are out there.
When it comes to DNS most VPN providers use something cheap like OpenDNS or the free DNS service CloudFlare provides. You're better off hosting your own and discovering the world of alternative DNS systems.
The best way to learn 'what is enough' for your needs is to host your own web server and understand the technology behind it at the networking level. You can spin your wheels for years reading documentation or following guides and still not know what you're doing. This is the type of training they give to cyber warfare specialists because it works.

The history is not the same thing as the cache and what you mean is probably neither but cookies, the local storage and browser fingerprinting (only the tor browser has protection against fingerprinting and before letterboxing you could render it useless by simply resizing the window).

Yes, but these caches contain metadata that can be used by other third parties to keep track of your browsing habits too. It works both ways. I simply wipe them out after each browser session, when I get back online with my browser they can't track my previous browsing habits. Use a private VPN and/or Tor it becomes even more difficult for third parties to track your habits.

Another solution is also using multiple browsers for isolated activities. Say using Tor to shitpost on forums and image boards. Using Epic Privacy Browser to access your email account(s) or creating accounts for other platforms. Using Palemoon or Waterfox to read the latest news or listen to your favorite podcasts. Diversification of web activity makes it much harder for third parties to track you too.

Okay winfag, enough, you're gonna need a bigger bait, your OS is much more compromised that what you claim browsers to be..
>pic of OP
Pretty okay if you just focused on this instead of claiming all browsers bad, cache is fingerprintable due to requests not needing redownload and sites can give you fake and junk hidden images to cache and verify it's you through other fingerprints. I'd worry more about favicon or about the fact that your internet speed and latency is f-able (fingerprintable is too long to type), your millisecond host time difference from the actual time servers, time zone of your pc compared to your VPN's geoip flag, your DPI provided by ISP, your DNS unencrypted, javascript can do all that wonderful shit alone, https://browserleaks.com/
The problem is not the browser although mozilla ff, chrome are all shit including vivaldi brave and opera china /formerly russia.
Mozilla have soros shit, chrome included, your problem would be the shit called OS which is windows, I've got a lot of dirt on them and the fact I can break any windows password/logon screen with a simple trick which includes in my experience versions XP up until 10.
Insane mode: set up an IP logger and use the link with your browsers, check the logged IPs and on some browsers you will see (spook alert) famous IP addresses, spook shit. Good luck though, you're not wrong, I just corrected a few of your mistakes >being a winfaglol. Journey ahead of you is a rocky road.

I mean, you're retarded but at least you're trying not to be retarded which is something.
Most of the 'features' you listed on top have been in browsers since their creation, so it's not evidence of spying.
Now if you could find that it was sending it out despite changing settings, that'd be the smoking gun. However, that'd require a couple of CS undergrads and several man-hours out of them (you'd have to man-in-the-middle all connections in/out of the browser so you can see what's being sent, and that's a pain in the ass).
Anyway tldr: use linux, don't freak out about folders, or use a 'live' environment that resets every time you turn on the PC.

Total anonymity is not going to be very convenient for most people today. People tend to want to click a button or tab of their favorite service/app and entertain themselves. They don't want to inconvenience themselves logging onto a VPN, or wiping out local DOM storage and opening up a new clean browser session every once in a while. Or having to use temporary disposable email accounts to register to various services. Or waiting half a minute to boot up a Tor browser. Regardless, I don't really have a problem doing all this. Once you get used to it you realize it really is not so inconvenient at all. Its more like people have become too lazy and impatient.

The ISP sees whatever proxy IP you connect to. So if you connect to a VPN service, they know you use a VPN service. If you connect to Tor, they know you use Tor.
The question is can the ISP actually find out what you connect to over a VPN or Tor? Sure they know your real IP connected to a proxy IP and they have a timestamp of that connection too. However….. can the ISP find out what it is you do while using the VPN or Tor? I kinda doubt it. I think that is where the Five Eyes intelligence agencies come in. They have access to all the backbone ISP networks and can trace every single connection, from one IP to another IP to another IP and so on and so forth and whatever is associated to those connections.

Yeah you can do that, or use something like tails, but it's not a very comfortable way to browse the web except when it maybe comes to highly illegal situations. Otherwise you'd probably want a little better workflow. In the you should always encrypt your hard drives, so then you can leave things on the machine and go back to them while still having them inaccessible. Unless you've got a trojan of course, but to mitigate that you'd need to use something like tails, not just a portable browser. That seems like sacrificing too many quality of life features while gaining no real security advantage.

A 'reversed engineered' version of an older Firefox or Waterfox are still pretty good with the right security add-ons installed. Look into about about:config privacy tweaks to make them more secure and stable.

Firefox today is loaded with bloat like telemetry, WebGL/WebRTC [leaking real IP and other info], pre-configured auto-updates [which can mess up your current browser settings and add-ons] not to mention all the suspicious urls in about:config which collect data from the browser.
Don't get me wrong, Firefox can be more secure and private-friendly if all this stuff is reversed/removed in about:config and depending what add-ons you have installed. That takes some time to tweak and re-configure it though, plus removing all those questionable urls in about:config so third party services can't collect the data. Waterfox is similar but it is a watered down version [they remove junk like telemetry by default]. I'd still recommend tweaking Waterfox further if you use it. If you want the safest option that removes most of the bloat then by far Palemoon is the best alternative for you. Even says so on that site you linked.

I don't know, this is nothing but personal experience, but in my experience a VPN has worked. I assume people won't believe me and thats fine, so blogpost time.
I used to pirate a lot of Bethesda games off of Tor. One day my internet got shut off. I contact my ISP and they tell me Bethesda filed a complaint for copyright against me, claiming I was illegally uploading(specific) their software. They questioned me, I denied it, my internet was shut off for 3 days, if it happens again it will be shut off for 7 days, etc, etc.
Basically, when I DL'd Skyrim off of a Tor network, the way Tor works is that I'm also automatically uploading the files I have, no matter how much I limit the upload it will upload something, so *technically* I'm distributing it.
Bethesda sets up fake dummy IP's to popular seeds that have Skyrim, then when people DL it off that IP they report it to the users ISP, they use popular torrents as bait. If your ISP is a faggot like mine, they comply and rat you out and "punish" you.
So why the blogpost? Considering my ISP bitched at me multiple times in the past throughout the years(not just Bethesda, it's just that Bethesda contacted them 3 separate times so they had to take action), warning me about illegally dling software. Yet ever since that 3 day ban I purchased a VPN and was never contacted by my ISP again, I would say it has to be helping. Will VPN's help against the government? No, but it is offering a layer of protection. Anyone that pirates using Tor should have one, or private seed networks, or hell just use sites like Mega, but don't use Tor without a VPN.

How to download websites in full
http://www.httrack.com/page/2/en/index.html
>It allows you to download a World Wide Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer. HTTrack arranges the original site's relative link-structure. Simply open a page of the "mirrored" website in your browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were viewing it online. HTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and resume interrupted downloads. HTTrack is fully configurable, and has an integrated help system.
>WinHTTrack is the Windows (from Windows 2000 to Windows 10 and above) release of HTTrack, and WebHTTrack the Linux/Unix/BSD release.

Good program. It can be a little finnicky sometimes though, but it gives you very fine grained control over how much it downloads and in the end you end up with actually working archives of a page. In most cases wget works well enough but when it doesn't httrack is great.
I haven't found a convenient way to either strip the downloaded html of all (external) javascript it links to or download all the javascript as well to get a real working version of a page without compromises. I ended up doing that manually with an IDE, or in simpler cases just sed commands.

Use %USERNAME% instead of User. That way if someone tries to copy and paste the filepath in question, it will actually work.

Mods decided a far more appropriate and less retarded thread containing my last post on the topic needed to be destroyed for the sake of this one. So first off, fuck the mods. And secondly, read this thread:

When you don't need to depend on a single server to receive content, surveillance and censorship becomes a monumental task.

That was a good thread you linked to, but I don't think this thread is exactly "retarded" its more like a heads up about all the data browsers collect from users' activities and people deserve to know about it. Likely one of the reasons these Big tech companies are able to amass so much data about anons. No?

Does that really do the job though? Because I tried it before with Waterfox and the sqlite databases were still in the local directory. I'm one who distrusts those very basic "privacy" options because I don't think they really do much. Seems like unless you scrub those sqlite files routinely the browser will continue to collect data on your regardless.
Maybe I'm just paranoid but I would think it would be wonderful if some tin foil tech geeks created a browser without the ability to collect user data. Don't know how it would work out exactly but it would be nice to have an alternative like that.

No. The ability for surveillance derives from the constant stream of information (metadata) that your browser is giving out to anyone along the routing path of a website you try to load - and in particular, the web host itself. This is ramped up even higher if you were to allow JS scripts, which is increasingly necessary for the functioning of a greater amount of web 2.0 services nowadays. From there the service operator gains the capacity to infer psychographic or 'phrenological' traits and classify them to a precision that arguably violates civil rights laws. It's nice that OP noticed that browser caches exist, but it does not matter one iota, when it comes to data mining.
