The problem is many leaders around the world are puppets for the WEF (World Economic Forum) and central banking system (Bank of International Settlements). Ironically enough, this also includes Putin too, although Putin has enough common sense where he will defend his nation from outside control and subversion. He has actually angered higher powers (like Soros and the Rothschilds) because of his strict nationalistic viewpoints.That said he is not totally against the BIS or WEF, he just has some "lines in the sand" that dare not be crossed, as far as Russia is concerned. As far as sanctions go, the only sanctions that will really hurt Putin and Russia is banning them from SWIFT, but as he stated that would be an act of war, and his catch 22 would be dumping the US Dollar (among a few other nations like China) to set up an alternative global trade/payment system. And this would hurt the US and Europe in the long-term, not so much the short-term. The other problem for the US is, if they cut Russia off SWIFT all other nations would quickly take notice that SWIFT is heavily compromised, and that poses a threat to all nations involved (including China) so it would exacerbate distrust among many others.
