Eventually they can, yes. So does most electronics. However, that's why you get spare parts and stockup on extra computers and have multiple backups of all your favorite media. Even DVDs go bad eventually if not properly stored (bit rot from humidity & wear). So you need to have the files backed up in cold storage and extra spools full of blanks to rip those digital copies in the future (VIDEO_TS). Any prepper knows about backup mitigation and contingency planning for the future.
