Point taken. Just wanna rant without being censored:
Is it just me, or is this covid bullshit a significant departure from the normal level of stupidity we've come to expect? There's been a lot of stupid shit going on for decades, but nothing that ever came close to this. This is a societal descent into insanity: fear and guilt to control people, social engineering of a vindictive safety cult that views it as a public duty to censor the actual scientific context…
We could vaccinate the 10% of the most vulnerable people and call it good. There would be no need to waste another thought on covid.
From what I can tell, relevant factors that led us to this point and continue to reinforce the hysteria are :
1) Massive increase in media consumption (cable news, infotainment, social media) esp. due to the internet and smartphones, which seems to have reduced the intelligence of people, or maybe just increased the number of ignorant people participating in the discussion
2) It was a convenient way to destroy Trump
3) Once committed to the narrative that radically transformed our society, the media couldn't relent without suffering a massive loss of face.
4) Of course some experts are actually intelligent enough to see that the virus in reality poses a very small risk to the general public, but most of them have shown willingness to exaggerate the threat or ignore the real science in order to scare people into overreacting based on the belief that this will save lives
5) Big businesses is more than happy to let their last bit of competition from small businesses be destroyed by lockdowns. I suspect some people at Amazon must be feeling guilty about their wild success at this point
6) As was already pointed out, it also brings massive profits to big pharma. Shit, covid testing alone has brought in billions. The vaccine will bring in billions more.
