The gist is you want to fucking go out and convert people to your cause.
You become an "organizer".
An organizer does three things:
1. Recruit more organizers
2. Mentor new organizers
3. Plan and direct activism projects
The organizer is the MOST IMPORTANT role to recruit more of.
But most people who agree to join your cause will find they don't like it much. So you find other roles for them - demonstrator, answering phones, making calls, website development, etc. You use them in your projects that you do as #3 above.
But #1 is always to recruit more organizers.
If you read leftist books, they actually say that you need to get into people's heads when they're still children before someone else does, in order to raise the "next generation" of organizers. It's fucking disgusting but if that's the game they play then you gotta compete…
But it really is that simple.
In like one sentence, what it takes to do non-violent activism in real life is merely to be an organizer. I.e., recruit more organizers, mentor them, and then put the non-organizer volunteers to work.
Of course it can get more complicated - organizers look at the whole thing end to end, like a small business owner. So the things they put the (non-organizing) volunteers to work at, are they things they have to understand a little too.
But the start is to "organize"- in the strict leftist sense of that term, which means to follow the three steps:
1. Recruit more organizers
2. Mentor new organizers
3. Plan and staff/execute activism projects
Getting and mentoring new organizers is virtually ALWAYS #1.
If you ain't recruiting, you ain't organizing.
If you can't get people to join, you won't have anyone to help with anything.
The right announces a protest or activity and hopes people randomly show up.
The left is ALWAYS recruiting. And they keep the non-organizers / regular volunteers "warm" by having regular events like monthly community meetings which are basically excuses to shoot the shit (maybe a 10-20 minute presentation on gender or racism by a 15-year-old, then snacks and hanging out for a while), occasional protests to "raise awareness" which outwardly appear to do nothing but are actually good for keeping the leftist volunteers feeling involved (feeling "empowered") and in the habit of activism.
Some leftist orgs go as far as encouraging people to "make activism a habit". Call out "injustice" regularly, make a tiny tiny $1-2 donation every week, etc. This basically keeps them warm. Keeps activism at the top of their minds, so when the organizer is looking for volunteers to hop on a bus across the country to a protest, people will be ready and willing.
